Your problems when not using the '-b' switch seem similar to what I also see on other architectures including i386 in this case. But there could be additional 64bit bugs in this path, e.g. the genclock clock isn't 64bit time_t clean, yet. The HME chips can handle a maximum of two PHYs, an internal and an external one. On machines and cards equipped with a single PHY per HME chip this is usually the internal one (with a MII interface on some machines and cards to connect an external one.) The Netra T1 105 really is a Sun CP1500 CompactPCI board with one single PHY for the first HME chip plus an extension card with the two external PHYs (ukphy0 and ukphy2) connected to the ethernet ports on the rear. > CPU... Maybe this port is the ukphy0 and it is desactivated per default > on Solaris ? I don't think that Solaris disbales the internal PHY in this case. The problem is some strangeness that when the unused PHY of the first HME chip (either ukphy0 or ukphy1) is isolated from the MII bus the whole bus wedges. Could you give the patch at: http://alchemy.franken.de/~marius/hme_luphy.diff a try? Please start with an empty kernel build directory. Thanks. I'm not ignoring this, I've started to work on it. I tested this patch and then passed it off to someone for review. His reaction was that this patch shouldn't be necessary, sysinstall never should have gotten this far. It should have recognized the device more clearly as a CDROM and not used Int_Open_Disk() as a consequence. I'm guessing that this behavior is also why we're seeing CDROM's offered as *targets* for installation in sysinstall for some configurations. So at the moment I'm looking through more of sysinstall to understand a bit better how it's supposed to handle CDROM's. :-) -- Ken Smith - From there to here, from here to | kensmith@cse.buffalo.edu there, funny things are everywhere. | - Theodore Geisel | From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Oct 26 10:10:35 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C2E8716A4CF for ; Tue, 26 Oct 2004 10:10:35 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A639543D64 for ; Tue, 26 Oct 2004 10:10:35 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) i9QAAZ8t027133 for ; Tue, 26 Oct 2004 10:10:35 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i9QAAZCC027132; Tue, 26 Oct 2004 10:10:35 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Tue, 26 Oct 2004 10:10:35 GMT Message-Id: <200410261010.i9QAAZCC027132@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.org From: Andrew Belashov Subject: Re: sparc64/72962: [sysinstall] Sysinstall panics on sparc64 if/dev/cd0 present X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: Andrew Belashov List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 26 Oct 2004 10:10:36 -0000 The following reply was made to PR sparc64/72962; it has been noted by GNATS. I have working Firefox/0.8 (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD sparc64; ru-RU; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040407 Firefox/0.8) compiled from ports with XFree86-libraries-4.3.0_6. Both working packages compiled 7-8 Apr 2004 on FreeBSD/sparc64 5.2-CURRENT. Old package of Firefox/0.8 working with xorg-libraries-6.7.0_2. Recently, I was given a Sun Ultra 1E Creator 3D. I already runs FreeBSD (installed via serial console): user@ultra1$ uname -a FreeBSD ultra1.kg4.no 5.3-BETA7 FreeBSD 5.3-BETA7 #0: Sun Oct 3 11:24:02 UTC 2004 root@bobbi.cse.buffalo.edu:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC sparc64 The machine isn't very fast, but it works. And today, I have gotten a "Sun framebuffer to VGA monitor" adapter, so now I want to test the Creator 3D, to see if it will work. I discovered that there is no output from the framebuffer as default (hey, I just *had* to try), so I guess I'll have to do some work to get this set up. Perhaps make a new kernel? I have serached on Google, but ther doesn't seem to be much documentation about FreeBSD (or XFree for that matter) on a Creator 3D. Could somebody point me in the direction of some documentation that explains what I need to do? Any advice appreciated. -- Torfinn Ingolfsen, Norway From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Oct 27 13:04:38 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4947916A4D0 for ; Wed, 27 Oct 2004 13:04:38 +0000 (GMT) Received: from tts.orel.ru (tts.orel.ru [213.59.64.67]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2D44543D58 for ; Wed, 27 Oct 2004 13:04:37 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from bel@orel.ru) Received: from orel.ru (pf1.net.orel.ru [213.59.64.75]) by tts.orel.ru (8.13.1/8.13.1/bel) with ESMTP id i9RD4Xiw005905; Wed, 27 Oct 2004 17:04:33 +0400 Message-ID: <417F9CDB.8040302@orel.ru> Date: Wed, 27 Oct 2004 17:04:27 +0400 From: Andrew Belashov Organization: ORIS User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD sparc64; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040407 X-Accept-Language: ru, en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Torfinn Ingolfsen References: <20041027141246.6fa89bcc.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> In-Reply-To: <20041027141246.6fa89bcc.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> X-Enigmail-Version: 0.83.5.0 X-Enigmail-Supports: pgp-inline, pgp-mime Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Zombi-Check: on netra2.orel.ru cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Using Creator 3D on an Ultra 1E? So you can't use syscons(4) or X on this machine at present. The ofw_console(4) driver will use the keyboard and the creator card via Open Firmware if you set "input-device" to "keyboard" and "output-device" to "screen" in the Open Firmware boot monitor or via eeprom(8) but this will be slow (should improve a bit if you compile a kernel with "option OFWCONS_POLL_HZ=20") and means no X. I checked in OBP, input-device and output-device are set correctly. I attached a keyboard, and my monitor. The keyboard is recognized (to a certain degree) as I can power-on the machine from it. I guess there's something wrong with your Creator card or the 13W3-to- VGA adaptor then because independent of any installed OS you should at least get the Open Firmware banner on the monitor when powering up the box. > > BTW, I can't find the man page for ofw_console(4). Perhaps the Creator is only sending sync-on-green or composite sync (H and V sync with different polarity on a single line), while the VGA monitor expects explicit (separate V and H TTL-level) sync signals? Both used to be quite common among workstation vendors (even though obviously, the 13W3 connector offers explicit sync pins as well). I've got a Sony GDM20D10 (labelled as a Sun monitor, it's the fixed-frequency monitor with the IRed remote control unit) which requires composite sync. -- J"org Wunsch Unix support engineer joerg_wunsch@interface-systems.de http://www.interface-systems.de/~j/ From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Oct 27 21:57:25 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6638F16A4CE for ; Wed, 27 Oct 2004 21:57:25 +0000 (GMT) Received: from mail.broadpark.no (mail.broadpark.no [217.13.4.2]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E9E5143D49 for ; Wed, 27 Oct 2004 21:57:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no) Received: from kg-work.kg4.no (151.80-202-173.nextgentel.com [80.202.173.151]) by mail.broadpark.no (Postfix) with SMTP id 58BB9497B for ; Wed, 27 Oct 2004 23:58:12 +0200 (MEST) Date: Wed, 27 Oct 2004 23:47:07 +0200 From: Torfinn Ingolfsen To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Message-Id: <20041027234707.0d756fc5.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> In-Reply-To: <20041027195522.A9425@newtrinity.zeist.de> References: <20041027141246.6fa89bcc.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> <20041027152635.A1723@newtrinity.zeist.de> <20041027192148.660be83e.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> <20041027195522.A9425@newtrinity.zeist.de> X-Mailer: Sylpheed version 0.9.12 (GTK+ 1.2.10; i386-portbld-freebsd5.2.1) X-Face: "t9w2,-X@O^I`jVW\sonI3.,36KBLZE*AL[y9lL[PyFD*r_S:dIL9c[8Y>V42R0"!"yb_zN,f#%.[PYYNq;m"_0v;~rUM2Yy!zmkh)3&U|u!=T(zyv,MHJv"nDH>OJ`t(@mil461d_B'Uo|'nMwlKe0Mv=kvV?Nh@>Hb<3s_z2jYgZhPb@?Wi^x1a~Hplz1.zH Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: Re: Using Creator 3D on an Ultra 1E? Ok I tested the card from OBP with the following commands: ----------------[ cut here ]---------------- ok setenv diag-switch? true diag-switch? = true ok test /SUNW,ffb Verifying Console Mode for Frame Buffer Board This will take a few minutes Verifying Frame Buffer Memory used for console mode This will take about two minutes FFB Frame Buffer functional test passed ok setenv diag-switch? false diag-switch? = false ----------------[ cut here ]---------------- But still no display (not even a blink during the test) on my monitor. How do I find out if the 13W3-toVGA adapter is working or not? (It is brand new). Are there different versions of this adapter on the market? The supplier only lists the adapter as "ADapter HDDB15F-13W3M, Sun". From a reply when it happened to me on a particular machine (now decomissioned): ---- 99.99% of the time when you see a RED State exception it is either the CPU itself or its ECache. Since, if I've read the rest of the thread correctly, you're only seeing it under load it sounds like it's likely the ECache, not the processor itself. ---- kris --1yeeQ81UyVL57Vl7 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.6 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQFBgp8BWry0BWjoQKURAhdpAJ47HQ14I/vM3PWWMG92Ubej29qzgwCdFT0n 4iQxFirALl9JtyLJwnYhHH0= =tVBf -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --1yeeQ81UyVL57Vl7-- From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Oct 30 08:45:50 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E18F616A4CE for ; Sat, 30 Oct 2004 08:45:50 +0000 (GMT) Received: from mail.broadpark.no (mail.broadpark.no [217.13.4.2]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7154143D3F for ; Sat, 30 Oct 2004 08:45:50 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no) Received: from kg-work.kg4.no (151.80-202-173.nextgentel.com [80.202.173.151]) by mail.broadpark.no (Postfix) with SMTP id 52AB27323 for ; Sat, 30 Oct 2004 10:46:38 +0200 (MEST) Date: Sat, 30 Oct 2004 10:45:46 +0200 From: Torfinn Ingolfsen To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Message-Id: <20041030104546.69867aef.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> X-Mailer: Sylpheed version 0.9.12 (GTK+ 1.2.10; i386-portbld-freebsd5.2.1) X-Face: "t9w2,-X@O^I`jVW\sonI3.,36KBLZE*AL[y9lL[PyFD*r_S:dIL9c[8Y>V42R0"!"yb_zN,f#%.[PYYNq;m"_0v;~rUM2Yy!zmkh)3&U|u!=T(zyv,MHJv"nDH>OJ`t(@mil461d_B'Uo|'nMwlKe0Mv=kvV?Nh@>Hb<3s_z2jYgZhPb@?Wi^x1a~Hplz1.zH Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: Ultra 1: upgrade OpenBoot? I also have an old Sun Ultra 1E, but not a lot of experience with Sun hardware. I also have no experience at all with SunOS or Solaris. How do I upgrade OpenBoot on a Ultra 1 which have - FreeBSD installed on disk (and nothing else) - a cd rom - no floppy I found this patch: http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/printfriendly.do?assetkey=1-21-104288-09-1 And it describes various methods. I tried theone where the patch is copied to the root partition on the disk. I tried to boot that file (the patch), both from the OBP prompt, and from FreeBSD's boot loader. Neither worked. The documents with the patch also describes tthat you can boot a cd rom (if you have the patch on a bootable cd rom), but I haven't found out how to create such a cd rom. The last one is the network boot method. It seems to be missing detailed info about what things I need to set up on a FreeBSD machine in order for the Ultra 1 to boot the patch over the network. Any help appreciated. -- Torfinn Ingolfsen, Norway From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Oct 30 10:07:03 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A015A16A4CE for ; Sat, 30 Oct 2004 10:07:03 +0000 (GMT) Received: from mail.broadpark.no (mail.broadpark.no [217.13.4.2]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2F93143D3F for ; Sat, 30 Oct 2004 10:07:03 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no) Received: from kg-work.kg4.no (151.80-202-173.nextgentel.com [80.202.173.151]) by mail.broadpark.no (Postfix) with SMTP id 9DC5176EF for ; Sat, 30 Oct 2004 12:07:51 +0200 (MEST) Date: Sat, 30 Oct 2004 12:06:58 +0200 From: Torfinn Ingolfsen To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Message-Id: <20041030120658.1f731beb.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> In-Reply-To: <20041029195025.GA13306@xor.obsecurity.org> References: <20041029142314.50f154d3.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> <20041029195025.GA13306@xor.obsecurity.org> X-Mailer: Sylpheed version 0.9.12 (GTK+ 1.2.10; i386-portbld-freebsd5.2.1) X-Face: "t9w2,-X@O^I`jVW\sonI3.,36KBLZE*AL[y9lL[PyFD*r_S:dIL9c[8Y>V42R0"!"yb_zN,f#%.[PYYNq;m"_0v;~rUM2Yy!zmkh)3&U|u!=T(zyv,MHJv"nDH>OJ`t(@mil461d_B'Uo|'nMwlKe0Mv=kvV?Nh@>Hb<3s_z2jYgZhPb@?Wi^x1a~Hplz1.zH Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: Re: Buildworld on an Ultra1E - exception - what does it mean? I set diag-switch? true in OBP, and the machine ran a full post without any errors cropping up (stress test of both memory and ECache passed). But I don't know if that means anything. Does something like memtest86+ (http://www.memtest.org/) exist for the Sparc64 platform? I have another Ultra 1 here, perhaps I should try to swap cpu's in them an see what happens. I will just have to read up on how to do that first. -- Regards, Torfinn Ingolfsen, Norway
