All worked flawlessly excluding drm: both in-tree and ports version successfully recognized drm, but starting X with it froze screen with grey'n'flickering display. Machine is still accessible via the net, so I log in and checked processes status: X server eats all the CPU, and after `kill -9' stalls in DE state. So, I moved further and tried to upgrade to newer radeon just to check. Unfortunately, the cheapest model I found was 9200, which is not supported by XFree86 4.3. I tried to look into sources, but 4.4 XServer infrastructure seems totally different comparing with 4.3, and I got frightened to dig into deeply. So, here are two questions: - any recommendations with drm activation? - approximate time to integrate XFree86 4.4 to the port tree (especially for 4 branch)? Thanks in advance. The 9200 works fine with x11-servers/XFree86-4-Snap. Drm also works fine if= =20 you hack the device id into /usr/src/sys/dev/drm/radeon_drv.c (at least I h= ad=20 to do that on -STABLE). =2D-=20 ,_, | Michael Nottebrock | lofi@freebsd.org (/^ ^\) | FreeBSD - The Power to Serve | http://www.freebsd.org \u/ | K Desktop Environment on FreeBSD | http://freebsd.kde.org --Boundary-02=_2TJwAy76PlDl2lE Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Description: signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQBAwJT2Xhc68WspdLARAv36AJ4s8TOJa9+IVPXJV1wsnf0piSK1qQCbBPin +/Km/8tck4ZOHcaT4OTV2Sk= =PArq -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Boundary-02=_2TJwAy76PlDl2lE-- From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Jun 4 15:03:34 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F239416A4CE for ; Fri, 4 Jun 2004 15:03:33 -0700 (PDT) Received: from web14926.mail.yahoo.com (web14926.mail.yahoo.com [216.136.225.84]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id E5F7743D1F for ; Fri, 4 Jun 2004 15:03:33 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from nirv199@yahoo.com) Message-ID: <20040604220309.74031.qmail@web14926.mail.yahoo.com> Received: from [200.138.49.219] by web14926.mail.yahoo.com via HTTP; Fri, 04 Jun 2004 15:03:09 PDT Date: Fri, 4 Jun 2004 15:03:09 -0700 (PDT) From: Paulo Roberto To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="0-1743861713-1086386589=:73897" Subject: i810 and 1024x768 X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 04 Jun 2004 22:03:34 -0000 --0-1743861713-1086386589=:73897 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Id: Content-Disposition: inline Hello all, I did all I could. I spent the last three weeks (since I bought my laptop) trying to configure X so it would work in 1024x768. I tried both 5.2.1 and 4.10. I even tried a linux howto. I read a section on the HAndbook regarding this very same card. Google, google and googled. So now you are my last hope! Attached there is the log I get when I try setting 1024x768 _only_ on colordepth16. Has anyone ever performed this wonder of getting this resolution with this card? Any suggestions? thanks in advance, Paulo ROberto __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo! Alain Poirier now released a workaround on linux so that it is now possible. As his original version is written on linux it does not run on freebsd from scratch. Someone in #freebsd @ irc.freenode.org made adjustments to the code so that it now compiles without error but for me this version does not work. It tells me that my VBIOS has an unknown structure. I used an acer tm 661. Can someone check if it works on his laptop ? It is sufficient to launch a local X server and a single client, or to query a remote xdm server. By default, the port installs in a /var/tmp directory so that the resulting files can be easily copied to their final destination (ramdisk, flashdisk, etc ...) The only video driver compiled in by default is for a Via integrated chipset, but this can easily be changed. A tarball of this port can be downloaded from here: http://www.thinbsd.org/download/Xorg-thinbsd-2004-05-31.tar.gz Feedback would be welcome ! -- Francois Tigeot From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jun 5 12:14:30 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7920816A4CE; Sat, 5 Jun 2004 12:14:30 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mail.soaustin.net (mail.soaustin.net [207.200.4.66]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 52A2543D45; Sat, 5 Jun 2004 12:14:30 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from linimon@lonesome.com) Received: from [192.160.235.2] (cs242743-143.austin.rr.com [24.27.43.143]) (using TLSv1 with cipher RC4-MD5 (128/128 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mail.soaustin.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id DD43B1430B; Sat, 5 Jun 2004 14:14:29 -0500 (CDT) From: Mark Linimon Organization: Lonesome Dove Computing Services To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Date: Sat, 5 Jun 2004 14:11:04 -0500 User-Agent: KMail/1.6.2 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Type: Multipart/Mixed; boundary="Boundary-00=_IrhwAKDeZn7InG3" Message-Id: <200406051411.04259.linimon@lonesome.com> X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.1 Subject: RFC: add text about freedesktop.org and related topics to FAQ X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 05 Jun 2004 19:14:30 -0000 --Boundary-00=_IrhwAKDeZn7InG3 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline I doubt I have to explain to anyone on x11@ why we need this, but for the doc folks, we are continually getting questions on multiple mailing lists about the state of X on FreeBSD.
