Disk 2 (slave): 80GB - FreeBSD 5.4 on the first 50 GB, FAT32 for storage to the rest. Both are at the same IDE controller (disk 1 is ad0, disk 2 is ad1) I have (mis)installed the BSD boot manager to the ad1, which, since is master, is being bipassed at the start, and windows is starting his usual business. So I have no glimpse whatsoever of FreeBSD when I boot, but takeing a peek via PartitionMagic, it is there. Also, I was succesfull at all steps of the installation. I would like to know how to (step-by-step, talking to a noob here) enter BSD, get the boot0 file and copy it into C: as if you were talking to a 5 year old boy you just met on the street. Thanks a lot, Artur Soares. ____________________________________________________ Yahoo! These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. I just cant handle 200 - 300 e-mails a day concerning All subjects. Is there a way to unsubscribe from All mailing lists @ one shot. I'v tried unsubscribing individually via the email address provided, and gotten requests for unsubscription confirmation, all to no avail. It's almost as tho everything is automatic, with no heman intervention. I'd just as soon not have to change my email address, but will if necessary. And unless it stops, I'll not experiment with the FreeBSD set I just ordered from the 'FreeBSDMall.' I hope you have a method whereby I can be removed from all with only one shot. Thanks. If all else fails, try contacting postmaster@freebsd.org and asking nicely to be removed from all lists. I'd prefer to put the stuff about MUA, fetchmail and such together just after the 22.2 section on using email. That way, you could then append sections on Postfix, qmail, and so forth at the end of the chapter, not in the middle. It might also be nice to mention something about configuring Cyrus or UWash IMAP, a POP daemon, or whatever, too. Most people at least know what a mail client is, so starting the discussion with those, then talking about IMAP or POP daemons as being what your MUA talks with, and then talking about setting up a MTA as the final piece to do the SMTP-level stuff, seems to be about as good an organization as any. -- -Chuck From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jun 7 23:13:14 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2D2AF16A439 for ; Tue, 7 Jun 2005 23:13:14 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from so14k@so14k.com) Received: from ender.liquidneon.com (ender.liquidneon.com [64.78.150.163]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BB0DE43D53 for ; Tue, 7 Jun 2005 23:13:13 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from so14k@so14k.com) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by ender.liquidneon.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 58681A6C5E; Tue, 7 Jun 2005 17:13:13 -0600 (MDT) Received: from ender.liquidneon.com ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (ender.liquidneon.com [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 96359-05; Tue, 7 Jun 2005 17:13:13 -0600 (MDT) Received: by ender.liquidneon.com (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 181BEA6C55; Tue, 7 Jun 2005 17:13:13 -0600 (MDT) Date: Tue, 7 Jun 2005 17:13:13 -0600 From: Brad Davis To: Charles Swiger Message-ID: <20050607231312.GA97305@ender.liquidneon.com> Mail-Followup-To: Charles Swiger , freebsd-doc@freebsd.org References: <20050607223346.GA95732@ender.liquidneon.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i X-Virus-Scanned: by amavisd-new at ender.liquidneon.com Cc: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Chapter 22 Electronic Email X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 07 Jun 2005 23:13:14 -0000 On Tue, Jun 07, 2005 at 07:01:21PM -0400, Charles Swiger wrote: > Hi-- > > On Jun 7, 2005, at 6:33 PM, Brad Davis wrote: > >Table of Contents > >22.1 Synopsis > >22.2 Using Electronic Mail > >22.3 Changing Your Mail Transfer Agent > >22.4 Setting Up to Send Only > >22.5 Sendmail > > 22.5.1 sendmail Configuration > > 22.5.2 Troubleshooting > > 22.5.3 Advanced Topics > > 22.5.4 SMTP with UUCP > > 22.5.5 Using Mail with a Dialup Connection > > 22.5.6 SMTP Authentication > >22.6 Mail User Agents > >22.7 Using fetchmail > >22.8 Using procmail > > > > > >so that I could add a new 22.6 called Postfix. and a 22.7 called qmail > >and a 22.8 called Exim and .... > > I'd prefer to put the stuff about MUA, fetchmail and such together > just after the 22.2 section on using email. First I would simply like to know where I can find a FreeBSD groff macros reference. For what I saw on the Net, .Nm, .Xr, and so on are not standards (I'm really not a groff guru, not even a novice to be honest). I had a look at the rc.conf(5) manpage since my project is pretty tied to the latter. I more or less understood that, for instance, .Xr is used to reference another manual page, but I don't know when I should use .Xr (manual page reference) and when .Pa (path) would be better. I would be grateful if someone give me some pointers or some explanations. Thanks. I wonder if that is in the handbook... Sadly it's not that simple. I agree that for most mice that should be sufficient, however it looks as though the sysmouse mechanism doesn't provide for a number of things when it's USB, when it's cordless (God knows why that makes a difference,) etc.: The section I've got in xorg.conf now looks like this: Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "X.org Configured" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Touchpad" "CorePointer" InputDevice "USBMouse" "AlwaysCore" InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection ... Section "InputDevice" Identifier "USBMouse" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "Auto" Option "Device" "/dev/ums0" Option "Buttons" "10" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" Option "DragLockButtons" "6" Option "AngleOffset" "-7" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Touchpad" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "Auto" Option "Device" "/dev/psm0" Option "Buttons" "6" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7" EndSection That seems to do it for X, but only if you disable moused, not only in rc.conf, but also by commenting out the mouse line in usbd.conf as well, otherwise X cannot communicate directly to the device in /dev and will fail to start. E.g.; # The entry below starts moused when a mouse is plugged in. Moused # stops automatically (actually it bombs :) when the device disappears. # #device "Mouse" # devname "ums[0-9]+" # attach "/usr/sbin/moused -p /dev/${DEVNAME} -I /var/run/moused.${DEVNAME}.pid -z 4 5 ; /usr/sbin/vidcontrol -m on" Without doing this I can use the trackball, but not the scroll wheel. Well it works for me anyway.
