Under FreeBSD 5.4 this works like a charm. But on the system on which I am running 6.0-RC1, the system freezes whenever one of the ATA drives that I am trying to attach has a hardware problem. This is roughly 1 out of 5 drives and creates a real hassle. >How-To-Repeat: "attacontrol attach ata0" when the drive that is there doesn't work well. The system will freeze for 5 seconds or so, during which time console toggling doesn't work. This leads me to suspect that interrupts are being disabled for an inappropriately long time. >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Oct 25 03:31:12 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A3F2516A420; I need to bring up 35 servers in the next few months and I'd really like to go with Supermicro/IPMI but with supermicro comes broadcom. Is there anything that I can do to help (testing, beer, etc..) or is it an architectural issue with the bge driver? Can you please post any details you have about the hardware in a followup to this post? Make sure you keep the address in the list of Cc: addresses and the subject starts with ``Re: misc/87822: ''. This way the followup will be added to the "audit trail" of this PR and anyone who works on it will be able to look at the history of the bug report more easily ;-) Regards, Giorgos From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Oct 26 19:07:44 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D5F1016A41F; Wed, 26 Oct 2005 19:07:44 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from linimon@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 907A043D48; Wed, 26 Oct 2005 19:07:44 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from linimon@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (linimon@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j9QJ7iwQ063850; Wed, 26 Oct 2005 19:07:44 GMT (envelope-from linimon@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from linimon@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.1/Submit) id j9QJ7inq063846; Wed, 26 Oct 2005 19:07:44 GMT (envelope-from linimon) Date: Wed, 26 Oct 2005 19:07:44 GMT From: Mark Linimon Message-Id: <200510261907.j9QJ7inq063846@freefall.freebsd.org> To: linimon@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: i386/88020: cannot boot unless: hint.apic.0.disabled="1" is set on xSeries336 X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 26 Oct 2005 19:07:45 -0000 Old Synopsis: cannot boot unless: hint.apic.0.disabled="1" is set New Synopsis: cannot boot unless: hint.apic.0.disabled="1" is set on xSeries336 Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-bugs->freebsd-i386 Responsible-Changed-By: linimon Responsible-Changed-When: Wed Oct 26 19:07:04 GMT 2005 Responsible-Changed-Why: This may be hardware-specific. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=88020 From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Oct 26 21:30:24 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F22E916A41F for ; Wed, 26 Oct 2005 21:30:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A13D143D45 for ; Wed, 26 Oct 2005 21:30:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j9QLUODg082688 for ; Wed, 26 Oct 2005 21:30:24 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.1/Submit) id j9QLUOk9082685; Wed, 26 Oct 2005 21:30:24 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Wed, 26 Oct 2005 21:30:24 GMT Message-Id: <200510262130.j9QLUOk9082685@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org From: cantclif@engineering.uiowa.edu Cc: Subject: Re: misc/87822: Unable to install 5.3, 5.4 X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: cantclif@engineering.uiowa.edu List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 26 Oct 2005 21:30:25 -0000 The following reply was made to PR i386/87822; it has been noted by GNATS. From: cantclif@engineering.uiowa.edu To: freebsd-gnats-submit@freebsd.org Cc: Subject: Re: misc/87822: Unable to install 5.3, 5.4 Date: Wed, 26 Oct 2005 16:27:49 -0500 I apologize for the lack of details, for some reason I remember give more info than I did. Main board asus p2b-ds, 2x800 p3, 512 megs misc mixed ram, with single 18 gig scsi drive attached 3c905 10/100 nic, promise fasttrack sx4000 and an older nvdia based card on the agp slot. The system will no install. It starts booting of the cd then within a second it simply reboots, no time to read errors messages, etc. Tried 5.3, 5.4 releases and 6.0 rc1 all do same thing at the same point. I've narrowed the problem to something with the sx4000 with some trial and error . If I pull the card I can install Freebsd with no issues, if I put the card back in freebsd won't boot. I end up with an error message and it reboots. I do not have the error message on hand and won't be able to get it at this point because we ended up deploying it as a win2k Active directory server on our network.
