I would have thought it would have been in 1.5.0_03, but its not, and they haven't released a 1.4.2_09 with it in yet either. One assumes they are planning on fixing it, but they just haven't yet. Until then, just install the Linux version long enough to bootstrap the native port and remove it once its built. The build process doesn't expose you to any vulnerabilities. -- Greg Lewis Email : glewis@eyesbeyond.com Eyes Beyond Web : http://www.eyesbeyond.com Information Technology FreeBSD : glewis@FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Tue May 17 04:19:16 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6C1C716A4CE for ; Tue, 17 May 2005 04:19:16 +0000 (GMT) Received: from misty.eyesbeyond.com (glewis.dsl.xmission.com [166.70.56.15]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9DBEF43D86 for ; Tue, 17 May 2005 04:19:15 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from glewis@eyesbeyond.com) Received: from misty.eyesbeyond.com (localhost.eyesbeyond.com [127.0.0.1]) by misty.eyesbeyond.com (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j4H4J5gt096045; Mon, 16 May 2005 22:19:06 -0600 (MDT) (envelope-from glewis@eyesbeyond.com) Received: (from glewis@localhost) by misty.eyesbeyond.com (8.13.3/8.13.3/Submit) id j4H4J5m3096044; Mon, 16 May 2005 22:19:05 -0600 (MDT) (envelope-from glewis@eyesbeyond.com) X-Authentication-Warning: misty.eyesbeyond.com: glewis set sender to glewis@eyesbeyond.com using -f Date: Mon, 16 May 2005 22:19:04 -0600 From: Greg Lewis To: Ivan Voras Message-ID: <20050517041904.GA96020@misty.eyesbeyond.com> References: <4288B026.9070301@fer.hr> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <4288B026.9070301@fer.hr> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i cc: freebsd-java@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: JDK 1.5 stability X-BeenThere: freebsd-java@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting Java to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 17 May 2005 04:19:16 -0000 On Mon, May 16, 2005 at 04:37:26PM +0200, Ivan Voras wrote: > How stable is JDK 1.5 on 5-stable? I don't use either Eclipse or Netbeans though. I don't have much feedback on how well it works under heavy load in a production environment other than it has a problem on FreeBSD 4.x (which there is a patch for). I believe there were some folks using it successfully in production on 5.x/amd64, although there are a couple of gotchas with the build on amd64 at the moment. Just remember this is patchset 1, its bound to have a few rough edges. -- Greg Lewis Email : glewis@eyesbeyond.com Eyes Beyond Web : http://www.eyesbeyond.com Information Technology FreeBSD : glewis@FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Tue May 17 06:40:09 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 05FA916A4CE; Tue, 17 May 2005 06:40:09 +0000 (GMT) Received: from matrix.gatewaynet.com (matrix.gatewaynet.com [217.19.69.50]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B024543DAC; Tue, 17 May 2005 06:40:07 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from achill@matrix.gatewaynet.com) Received: from matrix.gatewaynet.com (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by matrix.gatewaynet.com (8.12.8/8.12.8) with ESMTP id j4H6O79W006923; Tue, 17 May 2005 09:24:07 +0300 Received: from localhost (achill@localhost)j4H6O7Lx006919; Tue, 17 May 2005 09:24:07 +0300 Date: Tue, 17 May 2005 09:24:07 +0300 (EEST) From: Achilleus Mantzios To: Alfred Perlstein In-Reply-To: <20050517033420.GB62055@elvis.mu.org> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=ISO-8859-7 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8BIT cc: java@freebsd.org Subject: Re: What's up with java and security? There seems, however, to be a small Typo in the "DOWNLOAD_URL?" in the Makefile. It reports: ** Port marked as IGNORE: java/netbeans: You must manually fetch the source distribution (netbeans-4_1.tar.bz2) from http://www.netbeans.info/downloads/download.php?p=1&a=bd&os=2&lang=1&rv=4.0&b_bt=2, place it in /usr/ports/distfiles and then run make again However, the "rv=4.0" should be "rv=4.1", as the 4.0 directs to the 4.0 Download-Page. It's the "netbeans-4.1" Port; my Makefile-Revision shows 1.14. Not really bad, but maybe it could be fixed... My application will work with java 1.3.1 and when I upgrade to 1.4.2, I have the problem of the screen not showing (displaying a red X)... stating java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/vecmath/Tuple3d I typed in your suggestion export __GL_SINGLE_THREADED=1, however this did not work. I wonder if you came up with a similar issue when upgrading java? So, as long as FBSD is not "official" the Porter(s) will have the painful job to make changes over and over again, for each Milestone of each new Version :-( However, I have no Idea how to become an Official Eclipse Platform :-( Cheers, _ralf_ --=-/sjmiIEh2bFKnKWjFeul Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Description: This is a digitally signed message part -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.1 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQBCj1fRY2jmDrUy5RMRAk7jAJ9soVKj/s5kTs0UQnXir3gGW7dZvACdEk71 VyVWpiHCezDXeipdRXIBczE= =6vW9 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-/sjmiIEh2bFKnKWjFeul-- From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Sat May 21 17:22:52 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5621716A4CE for ; Sat, 21 May 2005 17:22:52 +0000 (GMT) Received: from plg2.math.uwaterloo.ca (plg2.math.uwaterloo.ca [129.97.186.80]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 549EC43DA0 for ; Sat, 21 May 2005 17:22:51 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from bfkorvem@plg2.math.uwaterloo.ca) Received: (from bfkorvem@localhost) by plg2.math.uwaterloo.ca (8.11.7/8.11.7) id j4LHMo000601 for freebsd-java@freebsd.org; Sat, 21 May 2005 13:22:50 -0400 (EDT) Date: Sat, 21 May 2005 13:22:50 -0400 From: Benjamin Korvemaker To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20050521172250.GP28718@plg2.math> References: <1116675388.23739.4.camel@klamath.syndrom23.de> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <1116675388.23739.4.camel@klamath.syndrom23.de> X-Face: "c*(tD4>ppZ2.~$,F<81P?w)^9&*|($,^6W5}jc=M|-l)9W@HDGDesB?,VE'R|@u-W=/zi=mL?{.I[P&V9$YdV2O-RxdNkov_I_E0(.1a User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.5.1i Subject: Re: Eclipse 3.1M7 X-BeenThere: freebsd-java@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting Java to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 21 May 2005 17:22:52 -0000 On Sat, May 21, 2005 at 01:36:27PM +0200, Andreas Kohn wrote: > Hi, > > there is a new milestone of Eclipse available, 3.1M7. The problem is that somebody still has to maintain the config files within the Eclipse tree, which isn't going to happen unless a FreeBSD developer has commit priviledges. I agree that porting Eclipse is a huge challenge right now, I'm just not sure how it the overall amount of work for everybody involved can be reduced. Alex.
