To enable suspend2RAM I tried the following things: o ACPI If ACPI is enabled, suspend work without problems. If I try to resume the machine freezes and the following message is displayed: ioapic_suspend: not implemented! ioapic_suspend: not implemented! [...] ioapic_suspend: not implemented! acpi_bus_number: can't get _ADR [freeze] If I set hint.apic.0.disabled to 1 the laptop resumes fine. Now the strange thing: Everything is incredible slow. Normal working/typing is nearly impossible. Why? o APM I disabled ACPI and enabled APM to get Suspend working. With the GENERIC kernel [2] Suspend/Resume is working fine. But I can't suspend while X is running, I have to switch back to console. If I compile a custom kernel [3] to get rid of some debugging stuff Suspend with APM isn't working anymore!? Did I something wrong? Maybe it's a problem with the builtin ICH6M SATA Controller? For further information: My dmesg [1], the GENERIC kernel config [2], my own kernel config [3] and the output of pciconf -l -v [4]. Instead it just blinks the caps and num lock lights quick-on long-off and refuses to boot. Is there a bypass to this? I've tried various F keys and other such... and control-alt combinations, and fn-alt etc. It *will* boot with the wireless card totally removed. Does anyone know how to do this right and/or does ndis work on the amd64 now? (I am using WPA (with 1x) several places and the atheros is a nice card for this purpose...) I've gotten kismet-200506.r1 to install (after patching the thing), but I don't know how to set my kismet.conf file. There is the orinoco and orinoco_14 option for the capture source but when i put it in i got this: -for orinoco_14 FATAL: Unknown capture source type 'orinoco_14' in source 'orinoco_14,wi0,kismet' -for orinoco source FATAL: Support for capture source type 'orinoco' was not built. Check the output from 'configure' for more information about why it might not have been compiled in. Now I've been looking on the net (2 weeks now) and realize that you have to load the appropriate driver to get it working with kismet. Most that I've found are from linux forums, where the driver is located at usr/src/linux/drivers/net/wireless. So can someone please tell me where the driver is located and how do I load it (loading it in /boot/loader.conf)? Or better still how to get kismet working with an orinoco classic gold on a FBSD-5.3-release? Does the output look reasonable (except that you cannot change the resolution)? If it displays weird numbers, it didn't detect or locate the mode list in your video BIOS correctly. That's what happened for me with the odler version ("855resolution"). The above-mentioned, newer one worked for me. If it displays reasonable numbers for you (i.e. those standard resolutins like 1024x768 etc.), it located the mode list correctly. But if you still cannot change the modes, maybe the video BIOS hasn't been shadowed to RAM (i.e. it's running from ROM, so it cannot be modified). You might check your BIOS setup and look for an option to enable video BIOS shadowing. Or maybe you don't have sufficient permission to write to that area. Maybe tracing the process (strace, truss) might reveal something. > Grr. > Who programmed the 915resolution-utility actually? > It's not really clear from the sources. The first code (for i855 only) was written by Alain Poirier. Several other people (including Damien Bergamini and Steve Tomljenovic) picked it up, improved on it and added support for more intel chipsets. Alan Hourihane integrated the support directly into Xorg's i810 driver, which should show up in the next release (dunno if it's in CVS yet). I have a collection of links on this issue: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/apoirier/ http://damien.bergamini.free.fr/i855vidctl/ http://www.geocities.com/stomljen/ http://www.fairlite.demon.co.uk/intel.html http://people.tecnik93.com/~acpi_perf/ https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=643 The last link (freedesktop.org) is a fairly interesting discussion of the whole story. I've described my problems with a Sony PCG-GRX570 here before, but in short, if I run w/ a stripped down kernel, it suspends then almost resumes. Something in the display is wedged, if i give it a little time and type blindly, or pop the power button, it'll almost shutdown [it hangs, but not until after it's unmounted the filesystems]. Ubuntu linux 5.04 w/ a text console suspends and resumes fine on the same machine. X doesn't quite come back to live correctly. g.
