No I think it's in the low level timekeeping that usleep uses rather than anything specific to bktr. There isn't much around that I know of other than video capture that is particularly sensitive to accurate usleep though. I rather suspect ACPI is screwing up fine timekeeping. The Linux grab code also uses a timer fallback for missed sync signals (it's a pretty common problem) but is less noisy about it than my BSD grab code in ffmpeg. > I get the same behaviour with multiple video sources (both analog and > digital satellite video decoders, a handycam, a VCR, various cables) and > multiple encoder cards (AVerMedia cx878 and an old Intel bt848) ... and > of course, as I said, the problem seems exclusive to FreeBSD (tested > with both 4.11 and 5.3). I just got my PVR250 and I've been able to get it working with the /usr/ports/multimedia/pvr250 port, using `mplayer /dev/cxm0 ` Yippee! I've also complied and given up on mythtv ... it compiles fine, but I get this error about V4L not working in this OS. Someone mentioned a patch to get Video4Linux working on FreeBSD, but I'm weary from trying to find it :) Next I moved to /usr/ports/multimedia/freevo, and I'm pretty excited about that ... except for the fact that freevo doesn't seem to provide the facility to just watch a channel. I think for my needs `mplayer /dev/cxm0` works fine, except I can't change channels. When I try `pvr250-setchannel ` I get 'Device busy' if mplayer is running. How can I get pvr250-setchannel to work while mplayer has /dev/cxm0 locked? Maybe a shell that interoperates between pvr250-setchannel and some player? But ... if anyone knows how to get freevo to view an arbitrary channel, that'd be cool, too. I just installed a new DVD drive on my FreeBSD 5.3 box and now I want to upgrade my graphics card from an ATI Pro Rage 8M to a Radeon 7000 AGP 64MB 2X/4X. I'm using Ogle to watch movies, works great so far but I'm hoping this new card will give me better colors! My question is if I'll have any problems finding a driver for the Radeon 7000 under xorg on 5.3. I think it will be OK but I wanted to make sure before I spend the money on it. Is there a list of cards that xorg supports? These are different from the chips the pvr driver supports (unless something has changed a lot recently, and I have missed it). AFAIK, there is no driver for cx2388x chips under FreeBSD yet. The Linux driver can be found at http://bytesex.org/cx88/ > In hope of a cure, I built the bktr driver in the kernel, but no joy. Also won't do nothing for you. This driver is for bt8x8 chips. There is even a driver for saa7134 chips: http://download.purpe.com/ But it doesn't help for your situation. -- Regards, Torfinn Ingolfsen, Norway From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Feb 25 18:22:10 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DF33116A4CE for ; Fri, 25 Feb 2005 18:22:10 +0000 (GMT) Received: from moutng.kundenserver.de (moutng.kundenserver.de [212.227.126.186]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3C9D543D4C for ; Fri, 25 Feb 2005 18:22:10 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from max@love2party.net) Received: from pD9E3964C.dip.t-dialin.net[217.227.150.76] (helo=donor.laier.local) by mrelayeu.kundenserver.de with ESMTP (Nemesis), id 0ML2Dk-1D4k6L05Sa-0006mA; Fri, 25 Feb 2005 19:22:09 +0100 From: Max Laier To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Date: Fri, 25 Feb 2005 19:22:46 +0100 User-Agent: KMail/1.7.2 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; boundary="nextPart17893513.M7siD3dfyj"; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; micalg=pgp-sha1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <200502251922.57695.max@love2party.net> X-Provags-ID: kundenserver.de abuse@kundenserver.de login:61c499deaeeba3ba5be80f48ecc83056 Subject: snd_csa comes up with vol 21:75 X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 25 Feb 2005 18:22:11 -0000 --nextPart17893513.M7siD3dfyj Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Disposition: inline Hi, I have a tiny problem with my csa(4) driven soundcard. The problem can be reproduced when aviplay is started without video output - then the sound is not as much distorted, but still very distorted, while I see about 8% CPU usage. When running Release 4.4 on the same system, the problem does not appear. Also there is no problem on 5.2.1 when playing mp3 files. On /dev/sndstat I see figures like these: FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm) Installed devices: pcm0: at io 0x220 irq 5 drq 1:0 bufsz 4096 (1p/1r/0v channels duplex default) [pcm0:record:0]: spd 0, fmt 0x00000000/0x00000008, flags 0x00000000, 0x00000000 interrupts 0, overruns 0, hfree 4096, sfree 0 {hardware} -> feeder_root(0x00000000) -> {userland} [pcm0:play:0]: spd 48000, fmt 0x10000010, flags 0x00007030, 0x00000000, pid 768 interrupts 3322, underruns 3190, ready 4036 {userland} -> feeder_root(0x10000010) -> {hardware} Obviousely these underruns are the problem. And -interesting- as long as I move the mouse over the aviplay control window, the sound is ok and the underrun counter does not increase (but this helps only when video is switched off). It seems like aviplay (I tried avifile-0.7.38_4,2 and 0.7.41,2) is having some problem with the scheduling of its threads... But how to fix? Is there a list > of cards that xorg supports? As far as I know, all Radeons are supported regarding 2D-acceleration in xorg. And I had used Radeon 7000PCI in accordance with FreeBSD-CURRENT for years. So far, I haven't encountered any trouble. So I don't think you will get any fatal problem with Radeon 7000. About Radeon dri support, look here: http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/ATIRadeon It summarizes quite well about radeon series' features. BTW, Radeon 7000 and low-end Radeon 9250 have almost same prices in Korea. If I were you, I would go for Radeon 9250 (and I did.) YMMV. Hope these help. I can think of two possible reasons for this: 1) There are messages like "WARNING[dvd_gui]: add_keybinding(): No such action: 'SaveScreenshot' WARNING[dvd_gui]: add_keybinding(): No such action: 'SaveScreenshotWithSPU" when ogle is started 2) I seem to recall that ogle uses the xv extension for the video which means that the image is placed directly onto the graphics card. Any screenshots that are taken when the image is present end up with the image area being blue. I'll give it a try over the next few days and see if I can think of anything else.
