The FreeBSD 5.4-RC3 release is now available. + The FreeBSD Release Engineering Team is pleased to announce + the availability of FreeBSD 5.4-RC3, the third Release + Candidate of the FreeBSD 5.4 release cycle. Due to one major + issue that crops up on large (4-processor) systems under heavy + load that is still being debugged there will be at least one + more RC added to the schedule. We encourage people + to help with testing so that any final bugs can be identified + and worked out before the actual release. The RC3 ISO images + and FTP based install support are available on most of the + FreeBSD Mirror sites.

It *really* does not play well with RAM: I've gone through a few OCZ kits trying to find one that works, and I still can't enable ECC (FreeBSD freezes during boot). The board booted fine with 1.5GB installed, but then up and decided to cause memory corruption in the 2x256MB sticks. Note that these sticks successfully completed five memtest runs in another machine. Currently only using one CPU, but comments from the mailing list indicate that dual CPU installations don't break anything else. Have yet tried enabling SMBus support, but I don't imagine it will be an issue, as the board is VIA-based. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Apr 19 15:43:25 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0BD8916A4CE; I have noticed that the directories for 5.2.1 RELEASE are no longer on any FreeBSD FTP server (including mirrors). Was this intentional? The web site still allows you to search for 5.2.1 ports and applications, and tries to link to the appropriate FTP files, which don't exist. (more frustrating is the loss of SYSINSTALL usability and PKG_ADD -r) Thank you. - Jeffery From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Apr 21 04:10:25 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B2C1B16A4CF; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 04:10:25 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8D52743D31; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 04:10:25 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from remko@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (remko@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j3L4APGi094683; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 04:10:25 GMT (envelope-from remko@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from remko@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.1/Submit) id j3L4APAs094679; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 04:10:25 GMT (envelope-from remko) Date: Thu, 21 Apr 2005 04:10:25 GMT From: Remko Lodder Message-Id: <200504210410.j3L4APAs094679@freefall.freebsd.org> To: remko@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-www@FreeBSD.org, pav@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: www/80174: FreeBSD/amd64 a8v deluxe motherboards report X-BeenThere: freebsd-www@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Project Webmasters List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 21 Apr 2005 04:10:25 -0000 Synopsis: FreeBSD/amd64 a8v deluxe motherboards report Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-www->pav Responsible-Changed-By: remko Responsible-Changed-When: Thu Apr 21 04:10:04 GMT 2005 Responsible-Changed-Why: Over to pav... http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=80174 From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Apr 21 06:10:24 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4DAA316A4CE for ; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 06:10:24 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 232FA43D31 for ; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 06:10:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j3L6AN4M038920 for ; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 06:10:23 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.1/Submit) id j3L6ANxt038919; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 06:10:23 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Thu, 21 Apr 2005 06:10:23 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <200504210610.j3L6ANxt038919@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-www@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Adam Naguszewski Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9F36516A4CE for ; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 06:08:34 +0000 (GMT) Received: from www.freebsd.org (www.freebsd.org [216.136.204.117]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 759DB43D41 for ; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 06:08:34 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by www.freebsd.org (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id j3L68XXG056548 for ; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 06:08:33 GMT (envelope-from nobody@www.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by www.freebsd.org (8.13.1/8.13.1/Submit) id j3L68XSc056546; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 06:08:33 GMT (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <200504210608.j3L68XSc056546@www.freebsd.org> Date: Thu, 21 Apr 2005 06:08:33 GMT From: Adam Naguszewski To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-2.3 Subject: www/80184: Consulting Services X-BeenThere: freebsd-www@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Project Webmasters List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 21 Apr 2005 06:10:24 -0000 >Number: 80184 >Category: www >Synopsis: Consulting Services >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-www >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: maintainer-update >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Thu Apr 21 06:10:23 GMT 2005 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Adam Naguszewski >Release: >Organization: Sectec >Environment: Europe/Poland/Gdańsk >Description: *BSD consultancy.installations and configurations. (more frustrating is the loss of SYSINSTALL usability > and PKG_ADD -r) Hi Jeff, each release of FreeBSD requires that the mirrors host over 10gigabytes of packages for i386 alone, along with base system and 4+ architectures for each release. We have very few mirrors that are capable of hosting 5.2.1, 4.11, 5.3, and 5.4 snapshots with package sets and multiple architectures for each. For that reason they were removed from ftp-master but those individual FTP hosts with space available were encouraged to continue hosting the release. 5.2.1 should still be available on some FTP sites. Try the mirror services as mentioned in the releng FAQ at the bottom of http://www.FreeBSD.org/releng - Murray From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Apr 21 22:34:58 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CD3EA16A4CE for ; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 22:34:58 +0000 (GMT) Received: from mail.soaustin.net (mail.soaustin.net [207.200.4.66]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6E32743D41 for ; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 22:34:58 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from linimon@lonesome.com) Received: by mail.soaustin.net (Postfix, from userid 502) id A884E14952; Thu, 21 Apr 2005 17:34:57 -0500 (CDT) Date: Thu, 21 Apr 2005 17:34:57 -0500 (CDT) From: Mark Linimon X-X-Sender: linimon@pancho To: Murray Stokely In-Reply-To: <20050421192300.GA11284@freebsdmall.com> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII cc: Jeff Lofgren cc: www@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: FTP files for 5.2.1-Release X-BeenThere: freebsd-www@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Project Webmasters List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 21 Apr 2005 22:34:58 -0000 On Thu, 21 Apr 2005, Murray Stokely wrote: > On Wed, Apr 20, 2005 at 07:41:06PM -0600, Jeff Lofgren wrote: > > I have noticed that the directories for 5.2.1 RELEASE are no longer on any > > FreeBSD FTP server (including mirrors). > > Was this intentional? Murray also failed to mention that support for 5.2.1 was intended to be dropped quickly since it was a 'bleeding-edge' release to some dregree. The amount of changes and stabilization that went into FreeBSD in the 5.2.1->5.3 QA cycle was quite large. Because of this, you can't (for instance) use most 5.3 packages on 5.2.1. It's simply infeasible for the ports team to keep a separate set of 5.2.1 build machines, so whatever packages you find are going to be quite stale by now. We encourage everyone to move away from 5.2.1 and onto 5.3 or 5.4. The results of a quick survey of which systems we still receive PRs from indicates that this has, to a large degree, already happened. mcl From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Apr 23 13:36:32 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E186C16A4CE for ; Sat, 23 Apr 2005 13:36:32 +0000 (GMT) Received: from bunrab.catwhisker.org (adsl-63-193-123-122.dsl.snfc21.pacbell.net [63.193.123.122]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6E21E43D31 for ; Sat, 23 Apr 2005 13:36:32 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from david@catwhisker.org) Received: from bunrab.catwhisker.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by bunrab.catwhisker.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j3NDaVh0062725; Sat, 23 Apr 2005 06:36:31 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from david@bunrab.catwhisker.org) Received: (from david@localhost) by bunrab.catwhisker.org (8.13.3/8.13.1/Submit) id j3NDaVQ9062724; Sat, 23 Apr 2005 06:36:31 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from david) Date: Sat, 23 Apr 2005 06:36:31 -0700 From: David Wolfskill To: www@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20050423133631.GP60995@bunrab.catwhisker.org> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i cc: matteuccia@mail.ru Subject: [matteuccia@mail.ru: Error link] X-BeenThere: freebsd-www@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Project Webmasters List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 23 Apr 2005 13:36:33 -0000 The following message was sent to postmaster@freebsd.org in error; it looks as if the correspondent is pointing out an issue with a link on one of the FreeBSD.org Web pages. Well this looks strange. If i enter the URL in my browser and look for routing i only get 2 results: MROUTING and: href="../../../../doc/ru_RU.KOI8-R/books/handbook/network-routing.html" Which does not match "routing.html" at all. And when i surf to the routing.html link i will get an nice little error that states that i should contact www@ if this is an error. Could you (matteuccia) give some more details please? Or try to reproduce the problem?
