To summarize what I've done so far - I've upgraded the board in question to the newest BIOS available (v0203 iirc) - loaded setup defaults - reconfigured them (... deactivated onboard lan) and all was fine. Not sure if it even matters - or if it even might have sight effects on your current setup which might led to your issue at all - this board (according to ASUS' forums and other forums) will/should run stable if the desired RAM voltage is <= 1.95V - there are several posts where people complain that it runs quite unstable/quirky with higher voltage ram (2.0V/2.1V and such from wellknown vendors). I've upped some stats about this board as well: https://www.undermydesk.org/pub/freebsd/asus_m2ne_specs/ if anyone cares to port the audio driver (which currently doesn't work on 7.0-CURRENT - but works on Linux Fedora Core 5 [using alsa where it's detected as AD1988B by ac97]) =) (I cannot figure out the ac97 codecid for this chip - compared to current ac97 sources - and from looking at the alsa code I guess that this even won't suffice... because they use some patch then if it's an AD1988x). Ahh, I have used this software before.... on my Windows workstation, which has a 3Ware card. One issue with installation: the port says to try https://example.org/ but only http worked for me. I always use https without problems https://localhost:888 Or more commonly.. create a tunnel from another machine to the machine with the controller. In the "ifconfig" manpage for FreeBSD-6.1 it states, under the stanza for "wepkey" that the number must be 5 or 13 chars long. The number that is being used for the 10 digit key is: 1466466946 So, I've tried numerous calc's to see if I can convert this to a HEX, 5 or 13 char output and was wondering if I'm missing something. These are all listsed as S2882 boards on the Tyan website. They support: - dual-core Opteron CPUs (for the K8SD/S2882D boards) - dual-CPU slots (we've used up to 2 GHz Opterons) - 8 RAM slots for up to 16 GB ECC RAM - onboard SATA/RAID using an SiI chipset (we disable it on our boards) - onboard dual-channel Ultra320 wide SCSI using an Adaptec chipset (we disable it on our boards) - dual-Gigabit Ethernet using Broadcom chipsets - 10/100 Ethernet using Intel chipset - System Management Daughter Card of out-of-band management (M3289, sold separately, beautiful little card, highly recommended) - onboard Ati RageXL 8MB AGP graphics - AMD 8xxx and VIA core logic chipsets, fully supported under FreeBSD and Linux (2.4 and 2.6 kernels) - 1 32-bit/33 MHz PCI slot - 2 64-bit/100 MHz PCI-X slots - 1 64-bit/133 MHz PCI-X slot (2 separate PCI-X buses) - 6 USB 1.1 ports (haven't checked if it supports USB 2.0 yet) All hardware and chipsets are fully supported (except SATA RAID) in FreeBSD 6.0+ and Debian Linux testing (2.4 and 2.6 kernels). We've got these in a bunch of tower cases in our elementary and secondary schools, and in a shwackload of 2U and 5U rackmount servers. We use 3Ware Escalade 9550SX SATA RAID controllers in all these systems so I do not know how well/poorly the onboard SATA/SCSI works (the controllers are detected correctly in FreeBSD and Linux) but the SATA RAID is a fake/pseudo/hybrid RAID, not true hardware RAID. Beautiful boards, and seemingly very popular, as it's quite hard to get a steady supply of them up here in Canada. They also come in lead-free versions, although the model numbers are different (same chipsets and features, though), if that matters in your area. We have not had any problems with our S2882 boards. Some of our early test boards were Thunder K8SR (S2881) boards, and those were not a lot of fun to get working. ---- Freddie Cash fcash@ocis.net From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Aug 28 06:12:00 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 824B616A4E0 for ; Mon, 28 Aug 2006 06:12:00 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from runfreebsd@yahoo.com) Received: from web37510.mail.mud.yahoo.com (web37510.mail.mud.yahoo.com [209.191.91.157]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id CACBB43D53 for ; Mon, 28 Aug 2006 06:11:59 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from runfreebsd@yahoo.com) Received: (qmail 38509 invoked by uid 60001); 28 Aug 2006 06:11:59 -0000 DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=s1024; d=yahoo.com; h=Message-ID:Received:Date:From:Subject:To:Cc:In-Reply-To:MIME-Version:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding; b=mGjSL1DbfeFaDnHraWRWIQEQIVlYuKmDb7hKP24yPcdMQYZq1t0y8FQ/hCxmcAodZpHLkMEV9SfjaMtqQCrq29ptWEdHmEULPNfM+PHXzWauroUM2Yf8yzMce9wGjtgb+QhjRazvIIHCBx88oWQ1KOg8U4ef0PeW3s9cCxMS8ck= ; Message-ID: <20060828061159.38507.qmail@web37510.mail.mud.yahoo.com> Received: from [71.141.72.46] by web37510.mail.mud.yahoo.com via HTTP; Sun, 27 Aug 2006 23:11:59 PDT Date: Sun, 27 Aug 2006 23:11:59 -0700 (PDT) From: Bill To: Tyler Gee In-Reply-To: <6e01203b0608271102k1418bd23u1bb51af1d42d6a37@mail.gmail.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Cc: FreeBSD Subject: Re: ifconfig wi0 "10 number HEX key" arg ? It's an option like "remote access". Once you select only connections from 127 are allowed in. If I recall correctly it is right above where you select the port. The port still listens on all interfaces, as reported by sockstat, but any attempts from outside 127.0.0.1 give an error right away. I'm running freebsd 6.1-release with a customized kernel on amd64 platform. The motherboard is Tyan Thunder K8S S2882. The board has built-in raid control, but I use atacontrol instead. The following message will appear either when there is heavy disk I/O or when system is doing some daily check up ( for example, security check at 3:00am): Aug 25 17:34:19 server kernel: DOH! ata_alloc_composite failed! Aug 25 17:34:19 server kernel: FAILURE - out of memory in ata_raid_init_request Aug 25 17:34:19 server kernel: g_vfs_done():ar0s1f[WRITE(offset=28373975040, length=16384)]error = 5 Aug 26 04:15:57 server kernel: DOH! ata_alloc_request failed! When the error occurs, the system will crash. The console is hangling, it shutdowns some running application. However, when you ping the server ip address, it shows the system is still alive. And monitor system shows me that "total process is in critical situation" ( mean too much process running at the same time). In such case, I have to reboot the system. While I was searching the mailing list. I saw a few more people also encourtered this error. ie, the thread httpd://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-amd64/2006-April/008047.html I am wondering whether someone has figure out what is causing this error and the way to fix it. I've had several 3ware boards, and I've been satisfied with all of them up until the move to sata. I've had nothing but problems with the sata boards, partly because the sata connectors are useless. The vibration of having a whole pile of disk in a rack can be enough vibration to cause connections to fail. Partly because some bugs in the firmware have bitten me a couple times. Mostly problems with the 3ware boards not flagging intermittant disks as bad. I recently changed my big production boxes to areca boards, and I've been wildly happy with them. I've even had the misfortune of testing the hot-swap and rebuild capabilities, and it has worked great every time. (except for when you press ctl-d to end the cli session). I've had 24 disks on 3 areca boards being seriously abused for about 6 months now, and they've been great. If you can afford the big cache versions, its well worth the extra coin, they really fly. If you are going to do anything that requires reliability however, you'll want to get some hot-swap disk cages (I used supermicro CSE-M35T-1's), so you've got good cooling, and then use hot glue to secure all those useless, utterly fucking brain-damaged sata connectors in place. You should never need to remove the sata connectors again, so use enough glue to make sure that even god himself will have to pull out a putty knife and curse your soul before he can make changes. You'll thank me later. If this is a memory alignment issue, then your patch would need to replicate the old alignment. That is, this is similar to the old Fortran issue that a simple debugging print statement can suddenly make code work because an array in memory has moved and stepping off the end of the array doesn't touch already used memory. I wonder if memguard might help. I'll go read up of this. -- Steve From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Aug 30 20:36:39 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: amd64@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A70D816A4DD; Wed, 30 Aug 2006 20:36:39 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from sgk@troutmask.apl.washington.edu) Received: from troutmask.apl.washington.edu (troutmask.apl.washington.edu [128.208.78.105]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2385C43D5F; Wed, 30 Aug 2006 20:36:39 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from sgk@troutmask.apl.washington.edu) Received: from troutmask.apl.washington.edu (localhost.apl.washington.edu [127.0.0.1]) by troutmask.apl.washington.edu (8.13.7/8.13.7) with ESMTP id k7UKacnJ001258; Wed, 30 Aug 2006 13:36:38 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from sgk@troutmask.apl.washington.edu) Received: (from sgk@localhost) by troutmask.apl.washington.edu (8.13.7/8.13.7/Submit) id k7UKacku001257; Wed, 30 Aug 2006 13:36:38 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from sgk) Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2006 13:36:38 -0700 From: Steve Kargl To: John Baldwin Message-ID: <20060830203638.GA1184@troutmask.apl.washington.edu> References: <200608151701.46724.jhb@freebsd.org> <200608301404.53834.jhb@freebsd.org> <20060830190944.GA2146@troutmask.apl.washington.edu> <200608301524.55149.jhb@freebsd.org> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <200608301524.55149.jhb@freebsd.org> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.2i Cc: amd64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: FINALLY!
