A run of the Linux Test Project (LTP) testcases for amd64 on current is scheduled by one of our "test-monkeys" ( ;-) ). The main reason for sending this to amd64@ is, that the amd64 version on stable (and -current) is not up to par with the i386 version. There are failures which only show up on amd64 (and one set of failures which only is present on i386, but not amd64). Some people with an amd64 machine, a little bit of C knowledge and a little bit of interest in fixing this should have a look at the wiki page (in case you use some linux programs from time to time) and team up with the i386 people in emulation@. I've just got a new server at a new ISP. AMD64 Athlon 3800+ 1024MB Kingston RAM 160GB SATA Western Digital Drive They've got good prices but are having a hell of a time getting FreeBSD running on their AMD64 Athlons. My server's one of the first they've tried to install I think and it's currently under no load at all, ie nothing pointed domain wise to it. They're bundling DirectAdmin with the servers and it doesn't run in 64 bit mode so they've set the machines up in 32 bit mode. From day 1 it's been crashing. First it was some dodgy ram, after that was sorted we still had crashes so they changed the mother board. They've tried Asus and and Asrock and for a while today it looked OK. Then suddenly I was getting complaints when trying to install ports. eg: checking how to run the C++ preprocessor... /lib/cpp configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check Strangely a restart of the machine seemed to clear these errors. I basically tried to get all of the ports I'm using right up to date and nearly got there, another cpp fails sanity check error occurred so I issued a restart using shutdown -r now and the box didn't come back up. They tried booting from remote reboot system and no joy so now the tech's back inside trying to figure out what's wrong. I'm no FreeBSD expert but I'm going to keep reading until I get there so if there's anyone out there who's got a clue what could be wrong and point me at what to google for I'd be really appreciative. It's a good spec of machine at a decent price and so far my research is telling me to go to Centos... I REALLY don't want to do that. I may be no FreeBSD expert but I like it... a lot. I'm waiting for some answers to exactly what chipsets on the motherboard etc. Is there anything I should really check for if/when I can get back into the box. You're right, I had a similar problem on my AMD64 box. One of two 200GB SATA 300 drives showed up errors after every third, fourth, sometimes tenth boot and then suddenly while running. Changing the SATA cable resolved the problem. SATA cabling is a piece of several tenth, not to say hundredth of an Euro - but it seems to be capable to bring down a whole server. All right, but this is one aspect. If Angie has already let the admins having exchanged RAM and motherboard and even more the CPU, I would suspect the PSU - but this depends on what the local Admin can see on the console if there is any. If the box hangs during init of drives, maybe the cabling is faulty. If not, I would exchange the PSU first ... Don't ask me to explain that I really couldn't. I wonder if they changed the motherboard and accidentally put the bad ram back in because that's was what was happening with the bad ram ;) Angie From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Nov 3 09:31:26 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2C95716A55A for ; Fri, 3 Nov 2006 09:31:26 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from guido@gvr.org) Received: from gvr.gvr.org (gvr-gw.gvr.org [80.126.103.228]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C646A43D53 for ; Fri, 3 Nov 2006 09:31:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from guido@gvr.org) Received: by gvr.gvr.org (Postfix, from userid 657) id 95924C0DE; Thu, 2 Nov 2006 16:17:42 +0100 (CET) Date: Thu, 2 Nov 2006 16:17:42 +0100 From: Guido van Rooij To: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20061102151742.GA927@gvr.gvr.org> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Subject: Parallel port not probed on msi rs482m4 X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 03 Nov 2006 09:31:26 -0000 The port is configured in the bios as "bidirectional" and on io port 0x378. "President Bush has never had a plan to win in Iraq, and now that Democrats and Republicans are all calling for change, he's desperately clinging to his stay the course," said Adrianne Marsh, a spokeswoman for McCaskill who was finishing a four-day statewide tour and plans to begin a 24-hour campaign blitz in St. Louis on Friday evening. "It's unfortunate that Talent is one of the only Republicans who agrees." Missouri's Senate race is intertwined with a ballot measure that would engrave the right to conduct embryonic stem cell research into the state constitution. McCaskill supports it; Talent opposes it. Bush didn't mention it. (Watch Michael J. Fox back McCaskill on stem cells -- :32 ) Funeral services were also scheduled over the next several days for firefighters Jess McLean, 27, of Beaumont; Daniel Hoover-Najera, 20, of San Jacinto; Mark Loutzenhiser, 43, of Idyllwild; and Pablo Cerda, 23, of Fountain Valley. A public memorial service for all five men was planned for Sunday. The only thing so far is not working is of course the sound, but then again if I wait long enough I think they will inlcude it from CURRENT. Otherwise no problems so far, just has been running nice so far. It has video and digital onboard which is a nice change too. I couldn't find a list to report it to, as there is a page for all the Laptop where you can list yours, would be nice to have one for MB too where you could list it and some of the glictches there might be. I get instant hangs. Usually there is no CPU usage at all. If I try to attach gdb to a firefox-bin process, it barfs. One time I got a hang at startup with 100% CPU usage. It was possible to to a ktrace on it. But the ktrace.out is 50 MB, so I won't post it here. :-) I can mail it if anybody is interested. One thing that struck me when going over the tracedump was this: 23905 firefox-bin CALL kse_thr_interrupt(0,0x6,0x7fffffffd120) 23905 firefox-bin RET kse_thr_interrupt -1 errno 22 Invalid argument It happens on all the firefox-bin processes. It looks like is being called with a NULL pointer as its first argument. This looks fishy to me. If it is suspect, the trouble might be in the pthread library? BTW, the prototype for kse_thr_interrupt in the kse(2) manpage doesn't match /usr/include/sys/kse.h Roland --=20 R.F.Smith http://www.xs4all.nl/~rsmith/ [plain text _non-HTML_ PGP/GnuPG encrypted/signed email much appreciated] pgp: 1A2B 477F 9970 BA3C 2914 B7CE 1277 EFB0 C321 A725 (KeyID: C321A725) --HlL+5n6rz5pIUxbD Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.5 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQFFTSeNEnfvsMMhpyURAh87AKCQ8gsfzYq+FI2NKyxwEAdkttBwkACgpkM1 S1qoTuGI6G8yHeiTTodqQJs= =X65O -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --HlL+5n6rz5pIUxbD--
