I just did a jar xf on the file, and it's fine. I also downloaded it with Firefox on a windows box and opened it with WinZip, and that was also fine. My guess is that your download of it either (a) didn't come from my server or (b) was corrupt or incomplete. I suggest you try downloading it again from http://www.spatula.net/software/FreeBsdCrypt-1.1.jar and then run md5 on it and verify: MD5 (FreeBsdCrypt-1.1.jar) = 1d73dc0f226fb41ee22e62acf3a88933 On Mon, 22 May 2006, Bhat, Usha wrote: > Hi, > > I downloaded FreeBsdcrypt-1.1.jar and cannot open it. I've installed the latest Jetty on FreeBSD 6.1/amd64 using the latest 1.5 JDK. With the default configuration, I can connect to http://localhost:8080/template/, but not http://127.0.0.1:8080/template/ or http://10.0.1.1:8080/template/ (the IP of the server). As you can imagine, I can't connect at all remotely. Here's the (presumably) relevant bit: 8080 P1 20 200 50 30000 2000 0 8443 8443 If I add the following line to (naively) force it to bind to 10.0.1.1: 10.0.1.1 then I get the error below (note I have made an rc script to run jetty through "su jetty -c ...", not that that should affect binding to a port > 1024!) I'm new to Jetty, and I am really eager to make it work but I can't for the life of me think why such a simple thing is failing. Am i missing something really obvious? This is where I got to (almost) - but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I have tomcat55_java_opts="-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true" in rc.conf. When that didn't work I tried taking INET6 out of the kernel completely. Then I took all ipv6 references out of the hosts file (I'm getting desperate, you can see). I still consistently get the following in the logs (everything starts fine until this point). SEVERE: StandardServer.await: create[8005]: java.net.BindException: Can't assign requested address at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.socketBind(Native Method) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.bind(PlainSocketImpl.java:359) at java.net.ServerSocket.bind(ServerSocket.java:319) at java.net.ServerSocket.(ServerSocket.java:185) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardServer.await(StandardServer.java:343 at org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina.await(Catalina.java:600) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina.start(Catalina.java:560) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl. at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAcces at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:585) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.start(Bootstrap.java:275) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.main(Bootstrap.java:413) There are definitely no services running on that port (netstat confirms...) and the error seems consistent with other encountering the ipv6 problems. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm prepared to accept that it's something dumb. Hence a couple of questions: 1. What timeline can I expect for the effort of getting diablo working on amd64? Is it reasonable to deploy systems on amd64 now and hoping that soon they will work faster and more reliable? 2. Is it possible to update the jdk15 port to use newer Sun code, as discussed by "Arne H. Juul" around May 4 on this list? That discussion died with comments that there was more to do in order to really get it right? Thanks for the wonderful effort you all make in getting Java to FreeBSD :) Palle PS. If you need crash dumps for jdk15 @ amd64, I can supply them, but that's not the point of this email, really. I'd like to know the planned time line. I've Googled for any similar error messages and a couple appeared in April but no-one seemed to offer any solution. All my relevant packages are up to date (xorg-6.9.0, linux_base-8-8.0_14, linux-sun-jdk-1.4.2.11, open-motif-2.2.3_2, etc). The PC has plenty of memory (1 GB), free disk-space (> 4GB), 'linprocfs' was mounted and the 'linux.ko' module is loaded . Strangely, I've compiled jdk15 on another almost identical PC with no problem - I can't see what is different this time. The error-log file is attached. Any ideas ? I have an SMP (HTT) machine with 5.5-PRERELEASE, using official diablo 1.5 jdk binaries from beginning of April. As suggested, I now run java with -XX:+UseMembar cmdline switch, that resolved problem with crashing application after startup. But today after 5 days uptime now-debugged-and-set-to-long-run server process have crashed, with 100M coredump file. What happened? Below are log and gdb backtrace. As some additional info: I have limits in login.conf, 32M for resident size and 256M for virtual mem size; yesterday when I looked at process stats it was about 10M resident and 250M virtual - could be a reason?.. > more hs_err_pid54480.log # # An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine: # # SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x0a3fcad9, pid=54480, tid=0x8a28000 # # Java VM: Java Is there any way to tell Java that memory is about to end before killing ? Or may be a way to make GC to free some memory periodically?
