On the FreeBSD runtimes that I have tested, a thread blocked on reading a socket just hangs forever if the socket is closed. Attached is a simple program that tests this behavior. It just connects to a port on one of my servers and has a reader thread watching input from the socket and closes the socket in a different thread to see if the reader thread gets an exception. But dumbster is buggy and it looks like it is no longer maintained. Latest version is from April 4th, 2005. And a library I'd like to port run tests with it. So I'd like to start from dumbster. We can have both dumbster and subethasmtp in ports. -- Dixi. Sem. Often, these ports are so marked due to security concerns, such as known exploits. An overview of the port, including errors seen on the build farm, is included below. portname: java/linux-blackdown-jdk13 forbidden because: Vulnerabilities in the browser plugin build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=java&portname=linux-blackdown-jdk13 portname: java/linux-ibm-jdk13 forbidden because: Vulnerabilities in the browser plugin build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=java&portname=linux-ibm-jdk13 If this problem is one that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. They went in before we adopted that policy. IMO the java top level category is bogus and should just go away. One day Herve and I are just going to move everything except the JDKs out. Anyway, from the categorisation section of the Porter's Handbook: "The java category shall not be the only one for a port. Save for ports directly related to the Java language, porters are also encouraged not to use java as the main category of a port." So please don't make 'java' the main category. -- Greg Lewis Email : glewis@eyesbeyond.com Eyes Beyond Web : http://www.eyesbeyond.com Information Technology FreeBSD : glewis@FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Oct 19 23:29:15 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-java@FreeBSD.org Delivered-To: freebsd-java@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DF90416A412 for ; Thu, 19 Oct 2006 23:29:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from glewis@eyesbeyond.com) Received: from misty.eyesbeyond.com (gerbercreations.com [71.39.140.16]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7DCF143D46 for ; Thu, 19 Oct 2006 23:29:15 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from glewis@eyesbeyond.com) Received: from misty.eyesbeyond.com (localhost.eyesbeyond.com [127.0.0.1]) by misty.eyesbeyond.com (8.13.1/8.13.3) with ESMTP id k9JNTEAd012528; Thu, 19 Oct 2006 16:29:14 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from glewis@eyesbeyond.com) Received: (from glewis@localhost) by misty.eyesbeyond.com (8.13.1/8.13.3/Submit) id k9JNTDME012527; Thu, 19 Oct 2006 16:29:13 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from glewis@eyesbeyond.com) X-Authentication-Warning: misty.eyesbeyond.com: glewis set sender to glewis@eyesbeyond.com using -f Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2006 16:29:13 -0700 From: Greg Lewis To: Joseph Gleason Message-ID: <20061019232913.GB12461@misty.eyesbeyond.com> References: <7956f3200610161024o3598e217oba81116bd84a7c99@mail.gmail.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <7956f3200610161024o3598e217oba81116bd84a7c99@mail.gmail.com> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.2i Cc: freebsd-java@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: Bug in java.net.Socket close() behavior?
