I can get a table of contents with cdcontrol for audio discs, and mounting data discs works, but I cannot write to anything, nor can I read audio data from the disc. Oddly "cdcontrol play" works, but given that there is no headphone jack, this is kind of pointless. I found some patches at http://www.jaist.ac.jp/~uehara/etc/ThinkPadX40/ , but they don't seem to improve the situation any. The resulting diff is attached for reference. I've tried reading with cdparanoia, and here's what I get: : adrian@atf; sudo cdparanoia -v 1 cdparanoia III release 9.8 (March 23, 2001) ..... Checking /dev/cd0 for cdrom... CDROM model sensed: IBM USB2 MultiBurner U0B1 Checking for ATAPICAM... Drive is SCSI Checking for MMC style command set... Drive does not have MMC CDDA support Setting default read size to 26 sectors (61152 bytes). Verifying CDDA command set... Could not find any audio tracks on this disk. Unable to open disc. : adrian@atf; Additionally the "check drive" function of the xmms cdaudio plug-in returns "Digital audio extraction test failed: inappropriate ioctl for device". Anybody have suggestions on what to try next? This is a pretty nifty drive, that I'd like to get fully functional. My concern is 24bit alignment. This patchset enforce strict alignment based on bytes-per-sample, so if the so called "24bit" hardware can really do 24bit alignment, it is pretty much OK. Otherwise, we probably need to swap AFMT_S24_XX -> AFMT_S32_XX within specific driver implementation. -- Ariff Abdullah FreeBSD --Signature=_Wed__15_Feb_2006_16_30_02_+0800_WXCzvgMaZveSV+7y Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQFD8uaOlr+deMUwTNoRAnm3AJ9MayVDw4bRGkUmYnAM/773bKa8BQCgggad b95V3p67vzvucswCq7RR/Yc= =3fGD -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Signature=_Wed__15_Feb_2006_16_30_02_+0800_WXCzvgMaZveSV+7y-- From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Feb 15 12:09:26 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id ABD6F16A422 for ; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 12:09:26 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from Thomas.Gellekum@gmx.de) Received: from mail.gmx.net (mail.gmx.de [213.165.64.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id DDCB243D48 for ; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 12:09:25 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from Thomas.Gellekum@gmx.de) Received: (qmail invoked by alias); 15 Feb 2006 12:09:24 -0000 Received: from bras-co-85-197-6-233.westend.de (EHLO hanbruch.tg.intern) [85.197.6.233] by mail.gmx.net (mp033) with SMTP; 15 Feb 2006 13:09:24 +0100 X-Authenticated: #18235045 To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org From: Thomas Gellekum Date: 15 Feb 2006 12:44:58 +0100 Message-ID: <89irrg26dh.fsf@hanbruch.tg.intern> Lines: 43 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii User-Agent: Emacs Gnus X-Y-GMX-Trusted: 0 Subject: No sound with ALC650 X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 15 Feb 2006 12:09:26 -0000 Moin, I'm having trouble with the following device: pcm0: port 0xe400-0xe4ff,0xd000-0xd07f mem 0xe1080000-0xe1080fff irq 5 at device 6.0 on pci0 pcm0: Recording works fine, playback doesn't work at all. I never got the error message so that path was never taken. As I'm already showing my complete ignorance about the sound implementation: I added a device_printf to the beginning of that function just to make sure it was called at all and I get pcm0: port 0xe400-0xe4ff,0xd000-0xd07f mem 0xe1080000-0xe1080fff irq 5 at device 6.0 on pci0 pcm0: reset channel 0 pcm0: reset channel 1 pcm0: on kldload snd_ich, and pcm0: reset channel 0 repeatedly when playing a sound file. Actually I don't need opengl because I'm not a 3D killer game player, and I think those 3D opengl screensaver modes are a waste of battery power. But I tried to get 3D acceleration working anyway, just out of curiosity. :-) I'm using RELENG_6 (about 6 weeks old), with the agp and drm sources copied from a CURRENT source tree (8 weeks old). Maybe those got MFCed to RELENG_6 in the meanwhile, I don't know (I think Eric Anholt was planning to do that, but I'm not 100% sure). But back than I had to copy those -current sources over. Other than that, I use Xorg 6.9 and the standard dri and opengl packages. No special patches or anything. I plan to update my notebook to a newer RELENG_6 soon (maybe next weekend) and try to see whether it now works without the -current bits. I've been running the old 5-STABLE on a Virgin WebPlayer, which is a Geode based network appliance thingie, for a while and the sound worked OK. I had it configured into the kernel as a soundblaster 16 (snd_sb16). I've upgraded to 6-STABLE of about yesterday (Friday the 18th of February) and the sound no longer works. I've furtled with the kernel configuration and tried loading all the sound driver modules instead but I can't get it to recognise my sound system at all. The dmesg shows it as being detected on the pci bus but no driver is loaded. Does anybody know why this has stopped working and how I can get it to go again? Thanks. I've been reading through /usr/src/sys/dev/firewire/ but can't spot where a similar transaction could take place and the naming conventions don't seem to overlap. I'm going to bed now, but while I sleep can anyone out there offer some assistance of where I should be looking ? is it to do with PHY ? It is a shame that the firewire driver writer wasn't concerned with cameras !
