Who wants to take over? X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 06 Aug 2006 01:49:41 -0000 Dear FreeBSD porters, hackers, users, Due to changing circumstances in my life and the expectation that in the near future I won't be able to have enough time/energy to work on my ports, or even run FreeBSD on a desktop system that I can use frequently enough to stay in touch, I have decided that it would be wise to give up my maintainership and responsibilities for the ports I maintain, as well as the development and maintainership of kbtv. I'd rather do it now, while everything is in a up-to-date and working state, then at a time when things may have already gotten b0rken. I'm currently maintaining the x11-themes/gtk-qt-engine port which has recently been updated and which can be taken over by someone else in a snap. I'm also maintaining the interrelated combination of devel/py-sip, x11-toolkits/qscintilla, x11-toolkits/py-qt, and x11-toolkits/py-kde. I strongly advise anyone who wants to take over either of them to take all four. They belong together and have a common upstream. Please be advised that PyQt4 is already released upstream and once KDE4 is a fact of life there's going to be a bumpy ride to get everything upto current at that time, I expect. So be prepared for that (it's still too soon to roll in py-qt4 at this moment). Finally, I maintain the port and am the author of multimedia/kbtv. I hope someone wants to continue its development and maintainership. It probably needs some more work with the saa driver and with the non-GUI modules to make it more general to work with different hardware (think: hooks to dbus/hal ultimately), currently bktr, saa, pwc. Also, come KDE4 it will need to adapt the GUI code to py-qt4/py-kde4. On the bright side, it now supports at least two different type of analog TV cards. No other *BSD app does. It's worthwhile to have end-user software that supports saa based cards, rather than only bktr (which is a horror). I'm willing to transfer/share copyright if that should be an issue. At the very least, parts of kbtv can be a nice starting point for a new app with perhaps a broader scope and perhaps a more skilled and less lazy developer. Taking over would also mean, in time, hosting the tarball/website. But it's no problem keeping that where it is for a while. I'm planning to reset maintainership of the ports come October/November 2006 but I hope that won't be needed. It has been a pleasure -- though sometimes one with headaches :) -- to work on improving the FreeBSD/KDE desktop experience, and I have learnt a lot (*) and hope my contributions have been useful. This is a hard decision but I have to make it sooner or later, and sooner is better. (*) One good idea is to not have your first ever coding in C involve video capturing ;-) Wishing all of you all the best, Dan From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Aug 6 17:21:43 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-multimedia@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1720F16A4DE; Sun, 6 Aug 2006 17:21:43 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from arved@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C383C43D45; Sun, 6 Aug 2006 17:21:42 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from arved@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (arved@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id k76HLg1t004405; Sun, 6 Aug 2006 17:21:42 GMT (envelope-from arved@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from arved@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id k76HLgIZ004401; Sun, 6 Aug 2006 17:21:42 GMT (envelope-from arved) Date: Sun, 6 Aug 2006 17:21:42 GMT From: Tilman Linneweh Message-Id: <200608061721.k76HLgIZ004401@freefall.freebsd.org> To: arved@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: kern/101417: 4-speakers output not possible on Asus A8V-Deluxe X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 06 Aug 2006 17:21:43 -0000 Synopsis: 4-speakers output not possible on Asus A8V-Deluxe Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-amd64->freebsd-multimedia Responsible-Changed-By: arved Responsible-Changed-When: Sun Aug 6 17:19:23 UTC 2006 Responsible-Changed-Why: This does not sound amd64-specific, over to sound system maintainers http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=101417 From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Aug 7 09:37:09 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: multimedia@FreeBSD.org Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1DFF916A4E1 for ; Mon, 7 Aug 2006 09:37:09 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from kris@obsecurity.org) Received: from elvis.mu.org (elvis.mu.org [192.203.228.196]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 140DA43D55 for ; Mon, 7 Aug 2006 09:36:45 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from kris@obsecurity.org) Received: from obsecurity.dyndns.org (elvis.mu.org [192.203.228.196]) by elvis.mu.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B12C61A3C25 for ; Mon, 7 Aug 2006 02:36:44 -0700 (PDT) Received: by obsecurity.dyndns.org (Postfix, from userid 1000) id D517E524CD; Mon, 7 Aug 2006 05:36:43 -0400 (EDT) Date: Mon, 7 Aug 2006 05:36:43 -0400 From: Kris Kennaway To: multimedia@FreeBSD.org Message-ID: <20060807093643.GV12746@xor.obsecurity.org> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="59coWm5189RNS6mf" Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.2i Cc: Subject: [ports-i386@pointyhat.freebsd.org: gstreamer-plugins-libvisual80-0.8.12_2 failed on i386 4] X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 07 Aug 2006 09:37:09 -0000 --59coWm5189RNS6mf Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Dear Maintainer, This port has been broken for at least the past several months; can you please address the problem ASAP? I think I've almost got it, but I'm really not a kernel/driver hacker type. I managed to find someone's patch to get the PVR-250 working. Applied the patches, rebuilt my kernel after making sure to include the iicbus/iicbb devices in the kernel conf file, and rebooted. However when I try to kldload the cxm and cxm_iic modules, it says it finds the card. It seems to only halfway work, complaining about an unknown tuner code and then detaches the devices: cxm0: mem 0xf4000000-0xf7ffffff irq 17 at device 8. 0 on pci9 cxm_iic0: on cxm0 iicbb0: on cxm_iic0 iicbus0: on iicbb0 master-only cxm0: unknown tuner code 0x65 cxm0: could not initialize tuner iicbus0: detached iicbb0: detached cxm_iic0: detached device_attach: cxm0 attach returned 6 cxm1: mem 0xf0000000-0xf3ffffff irq 18 at device 9. 0 on pci9 cxm_iic1: on cxm1 iicbb0: on cxm_iic1 iicbus0: on iicbb0 master-only cxm1: unknown tuner code 0x65 cxm1: could not initialize tuner iicbus0: detached iicbb0: detached cxm_iic1: detached device_attach: cxm1 attach returned 6 I've poked the drivers some, but apparently the version I have (rev E587) uses some Samsung tuner instead of the Phillips/etc ones that the past revs and the PVR 150/250/350's use. Has anyone had any luck in getting farther? Thu, 10 Aug 2006 03:54:38 -0000 Hello! My audio dies, espcially when my system is under heavy load. Otherwise I can maybe play music for an half hour, (with choppy sound). I need to reload the module (snd_ich), every time it dies. Tryed to compile it into the kernel but with the same result. The difference is that I can't "restart" the sound, and need to reboot. Sometimes it works better to not use the virtual channels, but the driver dies anyway in the end... mplayer says: Audio write: Invalid argument and dmesg reports: pcm0:virtual:0:dsp0.2: play interrupt timeout, channel dead pcm0:virtual:0:dsp0.2: play interrupt timeout, channel dead Added hint.pcm.0.buffersize="16384" to /boot/device.hints, with not much difference. The same problem occures in FreeBSD 6.1 RELEASE, aswell. Didn't have any problem at all with audio in NetBSD 3.0, don't know which driver I used, because I never needed to touch it. The specs on Toshiba.com says: YAMAHA YMF752, 16-bit stereo Compatibility: Windows Sound System V2.0 and Sound Blaster Pro compatible MIDI playback 3D sound support Direct Sound, Direct 3D Sound, Direct Music, Full duplex sound support, 64 voices, # uname -a FreeBSD oden 7.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT #10: Thu Aug 10 00:12:18 BST 2006 root@oden:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/ODEN i386 # grep pcm0 /var/run/dmesg.boot pcm0: measured ac97 link rate at 1530642 Hz ... pcm0: measured ac97 link rate at 341333333 Hz ... pcm0: pcm0: measured ac97 link rate at 96060 Hz pcm0: port 0xfd00-0xfdff,0xfcc0-0xfcff irq 11 at device 0.1 on pci0 pcm0: pcm0: measured ac97 link rate at 96055 Hz # pciconf -lv pcm0@pci0:0:1: class=0x040100 card=0x00011179 chip=0x71958086 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82440MX AC'97 Audio Controller' class = multimedia subclass = audio # sysctl hw.snd hw.snd.report_soft_formats: 1 hw.snd.targetirqrate: 32 hw.snd._feeder_rate_buffersize: 8192 hw.snd.feeder_rate_scaling: 5 hw.snd.feeder_rate_ratemax: 1102500 hw.snd.feeder_rate_ratemin: 4000 hw.snd.verbose: 3 hw.snd.maxautovchans: 2 hw.snd.default_unit: 0 hw.snd.pcm0._buffersize: 16384 hw.snd.pcm0._vchans: 2 hw.snd.pcm0._vchanrate: 48000 hw.snd.pcm0.ac97rate: 96028 # cat /dev/sndstat FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm) Installed devices: pcm0: at io 0xfd00, 0xfcc0 irq 11 bufsz 16384 kld snd_ich (1p/1r/2v channels duplex default) [pcm0:play:0:dsp0.0]: spd 48000, fmt 0x10000010, flags 0x00101020, 0x00 000000 interrupts 75919, underruns 0, ready 0 [b:8192/4096/2|bs:131072/4096/32 ] {userland} -> feeder_vchan_s16(0x10000010) -> {hardware} [pcm0:record:0:dsp0.1]: spd 0, fmt 0x00000000/0x00000008, flags 0x00000 000, 0x00000000 interrupts 0, overruns 0, hfree 16384, sfree 0 [b:16384/8192/2|bs:0/0/0 ] {hardware} -> feeder_root(0x00000000) -> {userland} pcm0:play:0:dsp0.0[pcm0:virtual:0:dsp0.2]: spd 44100/48000, fmt 0x10000 010, flags 0x10001030, 0x00000010, pid 32130 interrupts 0, underruns 0, ready 130944 [b:0/4096/0|bs:131072/4096/32] {userland} -> feeder_root(0x10000010) -> feeder_rate(44100 -> 48000) -> {hardware} pcm0:play:0:dsp0.0[pcm0:virtual:1:dsp0.3]: spd 0, fmt 0x00000000/0x0000 0008, flags 0x10000000, 0x00000000 interrupts 0, underruns 0, ready 0 [b:0/0/0|bs:0/0/0] {userland} -> feeder_root(0x00000000) -> {hardware} File Versions: $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pci/ich.c,v 1.66 2006/06/18 14:14:41 netchild Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/isa/sndbuf_dma.c,v 1.3 2005/01/06 01:43:17 imp Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/vchan.c,v 1.25 2006/06/18 14:14:41 netchild Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/sound.c,v 1.105 2006/07/17 17:43:06 netchild Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/sndstat.c,v 1.22 2005/10/02 15:43:57 netchild Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/feeder.c,v 1.37 2006/02/23 19:23:55 jhb Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/mixer.c,v 1.49 2006/03/21 06:35:48 ariff Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/buffer.c,v 1.27 2006/07/17 17:43:06 netchild Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/feeder_volume.c,v 1.2 2005/11/14 18:37:59 ariff Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/feeder_rate.c,v 1.18 2006/06/18 14:14:41 netchild Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/ac97_patch.c,v 1.4 2005/10/02 15:50:22 netchild Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/fake.c,v 1.16 2005/09/10 17:47:38 netchild Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/dsp.c,v 1.95 2006/03/30 06:17:03 ariff Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/channel.c,v 1.109 2006/03/22 00:34:17 ariff Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/feeder_fmt.c,v 1.20 2006/01/25 21:13:46 joel Exp $ $FreeBSD: src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/ac97.c,v 1.61 2006/01/07 05:20:46 ariff Exp $ # vmstat -i interrupt total rate irq0: clk 13775937 999 irq1: atkbd0 58939 4 irq7: 1 0 stray irq7 1 0 irq8: rtc 1764273 127 irq9: acpi0 906 0 irq11: cbb0 cbb1+* 257196 18 irq12: psm0 70280 5 irq14: ata0 237212 17 Total 16164745 1172 Sorry for this awful long email, but I have been looking for a solution for LONG time. :( Thanks, Emil From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Aug 10 06:51:14 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9196216A4E0 for ; I've got a PVR-150 and I'm rather keen in killing linux altogether from home ;) thanks, Beto From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Aug 10 21:09:32 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DBDA216A4E2 for ; Thu, 10 Aug 2006 21:09:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ariff@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 80C6143D53; Thu, 10 Aug 2006 21:09:32 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ariff@FreeBSD.org) Received: from misaki (root@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with SMTP id k7AL9TAL091286; Thu, 10 Aug 2006 21:09:30 GMT (envelope-from ariff@FreeBSD.org) Date: Fri, 11 Aug 2006 05:09:19 +0800 From: Ariff Abdullah To: TAMURA Kent Message-Id: <20060811050919.1d8bb187.ariff@FreeBSD.org> In-Reply-To: <20060810065109.78A5D15EB090@gabi-n.hauN.org> References: <20060810035426.GA28177@Update.UU.SE> <20060810065109.78A5D15EB090@gabi-n.hauN.org> Organization: FreeBSD X-Mailer: /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/net/smtp.rb Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; micalg="PGP-SHA1"; boundary="Signature=_Fri__11_Aug_2006_05_09_19_+0800_vKo8PPbdmwStSuTf" Cc: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: snd_ich dies X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 10 Aug 2006 21:09:32 -0000 --Signature=_Fri__11_Aug_2006_05_09_19_+0800_vKo8PPbdmwStSuTf Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On Thu, 10 Aug 2006 15:51:09 +0900 (JST) TAMURA Kent wrote: >=20 > > My audio dies, espcially when my system is under heavy load. > > Otherwise I can maybe play music for an half hour, (with choppy > > sound). >=20 > > vendor =3D 'Intel Corporation' > > device =3D '82440MX AC'97 Audio Controller' >=20 > 440MX has a hardware erratum and an audio driver should have > special handling to avoid it. What makes me wonder is why NetBSD needed an additional BUS_DMA_NOCACHE flag as the purpose of BUS_DMA_COHERENT is to map pages into uncached address space or to set cache-inhibit bits in PTE. Btw, the workaround suggested by Intel said it _reduces_ the frequency of the failure(Master Abort). wiring is unknown) 6) Terratec PHASE 22 : uses Envy24HT-S and AK4524, need to be tested by someone, chances to work without additional code are medium (AK4524 <-> Envy24HT PSDOUT_? wiring is unknown) 7) M-Audio Revolution 7.1 : need to be tested by someone, chances to work without additional code are very high 8) M-Audio Revolution 5.1 : need to be tested by someone, chances to work without additional code is low (uses Envy24GT, no datasheet, also uses PT2258) 9) M-Audio Audiophile 192 : Damian Gerow (dgerow at afflictions dot org ) made E2PROM dump using my envy24-e2prom-dump kernel module and Noel Ambrose and his friend with a little help from me, managed to reverse the wiring of the Audiophile 192 (AP192). however the AP192 support need to be tested by someone, chances to work without additional code are very high. for all supported cards the volume can be change only with "mixer vol ..." because i reuse big part of the old Katsurajima Naoto's code for Envy24, the Envy24HT driver has some known problems: no vchans and 172x hasn't hardware mixing, so it is serious limitation - only one stereo file can be played at a same time, interrupt storm when module is loaded before the start of KDE (that apply for envy24.c also, for the moment workaround is to kldload the module after KDE is started), maybe there are also other problems. the new Envy24HT code is here: http://envy24.svobodno.com/driver/envy24ht/ so new architecture is: - envy24.c for Envy24(1712)-based cards - envy24ht.c for Envy24HT(1724)-based cards (in some cases it can be used also for 172x-based(Envy24HT-S, Envy24GT, etc.) cards) - spicds.c is used by both envy24.c and envy24ht.c (ak452x.c is no needed anymore) here is the patch to allow envy24.c to use spicds.c: http://envy24.svobodno.com/driver/envy24/envy24.c.ml2_cds.diff before apply the patch apply: http://envy24.svobodno.com/driver/envy24/envy24.c.spicds.diff which fixes two bugs in envy24.c that i noticed accidentally - memory leak, when "number of adcs" != "number of dacs" and multiple inicialization of the first codec. maybe Alexander will commit the envy24ht.c and spicds.c to the CVS and the two patches above for envy24.c and after that ak452x.c is no needed and can be removed from the CVS. i will be away from computer for the next several weeks, but if someone test the code, let me know the result ... In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc3.4, which is much stricter about such things as function declarations, literal strings constants that continue over several physical lines, and forcing the deprecation of antique header files such as varargs.h (we should now be using stdargs.h). The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. If you need help in one or more build environments that you do not have access to, please ask for help on the freebsd-ports mailing list. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 4.x/5.x/6.x with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: graphics/gstreamer-plugins-libvisual80 broken because: Does not build build errors: http://pointyhat.freebsd.org/errorlogs/i386-errorlogs/e.4.2006071303/gstreamer-plugins-libvisual80-0.8.12_2.log (Aug 9 07:21:09 GMT 2006) overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=graphics&portname=gstreamer-plugins-libvisual80 portname: multimedia/gstreamer-plugins-dirac80 broken because: Does not build with new dirac build errors: http://pointyhat.freebsd.org/errorlogs/i386-errorlogs/e.5.2006072607/gstreamer-plugins-dirac80-0.8.12_1.log (Aug 10 03:54:52 UTC 2006) overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=multimedia&portname=gstreamer-plugins-dirac80 If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future. Thanks for your efforts to help improve FreeBSD. With this I use a Panasonic 512 MB "high speed" SD Card.
