In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc3.4, which is much stricter about such things as function declarations, literal strings constants that continue over several physical lines, and forcing the deprecation of antique header files such as varargs.h (we should now be using stdargs.h). The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. If you need help in one or more build environments that you do not have access to, please ask for help on the freebsd-ports mailing list. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 4.x/5.x/6.x with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: multimedia/gstreamer-plugins-dirac80 broken because: Does not build with new dirac build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=multimedia&portname=gstreamer-plugins-dirac80 portname: multimedia/gstreamer-plugins-mpeg2enc80 broken because: Does not compile build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=multimedia&portname=gstreamer-plugins-mpeg2enc80 If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future. Thanks for your efforts to help improve FreeBSD. And this includes the USB MIDI driver, I guess. I also installed the libumidi20 and QT4 / midistudio. I couldn't find a '*umidi*' module in /boot/kernel, or anywhere else for that matter. So I'll need a little help here. I have two usb midi devices, a keyboard and a sound / effects module the show up as: Sep 21 08:34:36 kg-quiet kernel: ugen0: Sep 21 08:34:24 kg-quiet kernel: ugen1: usbdevs -v: root@kg-quiet# usbdevs -v Controller /dev/usb0: addr 126: full speed, power 500 mA, config 1, EDIROL SD-20(0x0027), Roland(0x0582), rev 1.00 addr 127: full speed, self powered, config 1, OHCI root hub(0x0000), (0x1002)(0x0000), rev 1.00 port 1 powered port 2 powered port 3 addr 126: full speed, power 500 mA, config 1, EDIROL SD-20(0x0027), Roland(0x0582), rev 1.00 port 4 powered Controller /dev/usb1: addr 126: full speed, self powered, config 1, USB MIDI keyboard(0x00d2), Evolution Electronics Ltd.(0x0a4d), rev 2.52 addr 127: full speed, self powered, config 1, OHCI root hub(0x0000), (0x1002)(0x0000), rev 1.00 port 1 powered port 2 powered port 3 addr 126: full speed, self powered, config 1, USB MIDI keyboard(0x00d2), Evolution Electronics Ltd.(0x0a4d), rev 2.52 port 4 powered Controller /dev/usb2: addr 127: high speed, self powered, config 1, EHCI root hub(0x0000), (0x1002)(0x0000), rev 1.00 port 1 powered port 2 powered port 3 powered port 4 powered port 5 powered port 6 powered port 7 powered port 8 powered and there are no /dev/umidi* to bee seen. I'm not aware of an application which makes use of those features. ATM you can think about it as pure infrastructure work. As soon as some parts are pushed down into drivers, you have better control about your hardware. ATM the mixer only shows hardcoded stuff. There are less controls than there are output jacks on some soundcards. These changes provide the kernel interface to change the drivers to control the volume of each output channel the card provides. Ariff has some other changes in the wings which allow us to work better with multi-channel stuff (e.g., 5.1 surround instead of only stereo). But AFAIK this is just about the internals of the soundsystem. The SoC project provides a kernel interface to some of this new stuff. When 4Front freezes the API (there are parts which aren't fully set in stone yet) we will be able to give names to some parts of the soundsystem, query the name of the currently running song (if set) and some other nice stuff. Already possible is the synchronized start of multiple channels (even across devices), but an application has to contain code to use this feature. There's also better control of mute/pause, but again, I'm not aware of an application which uses this ATM. And while I'm at it: I want to highlight the docs of the functions in the kernel. I'm generating a PDF with doxygen right now and it will be available from http://www.Leidinger.net/FreeBSD/src_docs/ later (have a look at the date, it should be recent and not from last month as it is as of this writting).
