Go to http://www.opensound.com/test for the v4.0 drivers. > commercial third party driver and > therefore a bit suspicious in my opinion. So Nvidia closed source driver is not suspicious but 4Front's OSS is?. FYI, we've been in business since 1996 and not 1 complaint about our software being malicious has ever been filed! best regards Dev Mazumdar 4Front Technologies --------------------------------------- Sorry for my late answer, I'm not an official list member. I tried the recommended new driver and indeed, it works. But: why is this third party stuff installing in /usr and not, as expected, in /usr/local ? Could this please be a subject of change? > So Nvidia closed source driver is not suspicious but 4Front's OSS is?. Well, no offenses, please. I do not use any closed sources from nVidia any more due to their problems offering correct working drivers (in this case, nForce nve() driver, which delivers a kind of interrupt storm on my box!). Could you please visit http://people.freebsd.org/~fenner/portsurvey/multimedia@freebsd.org.html and correct the problems listed there? The individual port with a problem is audio/ac3dec. If you have already corrected the problems and submitted a PR, please accept my thanks and apologies for the delay in getting the fixes into the tree. This reminder is created automatically and does not (yet) have a way to know if a PR fixing the problem has been submitted. Please do *NOT* send your response to me directly; I do not necessarily have time to commit your fix; please instead submit a PR via 'send-pr' so it doesn't get lost. Problems are usually of two types: 1. The software package has been upgraded and the version in the port has been removed. The best solution to this problem is to upgrade the port to the most current version of the software package. If you are a FreeBSD committer, then you can just upgrade the port directly. If not, you should create the updated port on your own machine, test it (and maybe even run "portlint" on it), and then use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -uNr old-port updated-port". If you added or deleted any files, please make an explicit note of it. 2. The mirror site being used no longer contains the software package in question, or no longer exists. Solutions include: a) If there are other mirror sites, just remove the bad site from the list. (Make sure that what appears to be a bad site isn't actually a problem of type 1, upgrade) b) If the README or other support files in the software documentation mention where to get the software package, use one of those sites. c) Use a search engine to find another place to get the original DISTFILES. Make sure that you don't pick a FreeBSD distfiles mirror -- if you can't find any other places where the file exists, it can be a LOCAL_PORT or you can simply comment out the MASTER_SITES= line, with a comment explaining why. Once you have a solution, use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -u" of the Makefile. Note that this isn't an urgent issue, as people who try to build the port now will just fall back to the FreeBSD distfiles mirror. Please just put it on your list to do and get to it when you have time. These messages will continue to arrive twice a month until the fix is committed, as a reminder. Thanks, Bill "distfiles" Fenner. There were only 17 matches when you search the freebsd-multimedia archive for "winfast"... been reading it over and over again and I couldn't get any closer to my goal. The box: FreeBSD 6.2-PRERELEASE Sysctl: hw.bt848.slow_msp_audio: -1 hw.bt848.format: 0 hw.bt848.reverse_mute: -1 hw.bt848.tuner: 15 hw.bt848.card: 14 I tried using kbtv: Hardware Info: Bktr module: Loaded Capture chip: BrookTree 878 Card name: Leadtek Winfast TV 2000 -huh!? I thought it was 15 says bktr (4) Tuner type: LG TP18PSB12P PAL - as according to this: http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/htdig/freebsd-multimedia/2005-August/002521.html I'm leaving here in the Philippines The tv tuner's surface doesn't really say anything about it's tuner type. It just have a sticker with "Winfast TV2000 XP RM" and "NTSC" selected on the checkbox.. The chipset is definitely a Conexant Fusion 878. I tried xawtv... played with different values to no avail. $xawtv -hwscan This is xawtv-3.95, running on FreeBSD/i386 (6.2-PRERELEASE) looking for available devices port 57-88 type : Xvideo, image scaler name : NV Video Blitter /dev/bktr0: OK [ -device /dev/bktr0 ] type : bktr flags: overlay capture tuner However, upon launching xawtv, I got these: $xawtv This is xawtv-3.95, running on FreeBSD/i386 (6.2-PRERELEASE) Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-ledfixed-medium-r-*--39-*-*-*-c-*-*-*" to type FontStruct Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". I removed bktr_load="YES" from /boot/loader.conf, rebooted the machine sysctl were also gone it was detected as: Leadtek Winfast TV 2000, Philips FR1236 NTSC FM tuner. Which version of the nvidia-driver are you using? 8776 or 7184? The 87XX versions dropped XV support, AFAIR.. I don't know if this is still the case. You'll need to use the 71XX version, built by specifying WITH_LEGACY_GPU_SUPPORT while building. I had to do this for my bt848 tuner card. I sincerely hope the NVIDIA folks are reading this and will keep XVideo in their newer drivers. Many people have asked for this on their forums. If they don't, I'll probably stop buying nVidia cards. > I just got a blue overlay. This happened to me a lot whenever I was using mplayer for tv display. I had better luck with multimedia/fxtv. You might give that a whirl. Also, I don't think you mentioned this, but which version of FreeBSD? Are you running it on amd64 or i386 hardware? I couldn't get my card to display correctly an my amd64 hardware (with i386 BSD) and it locked my kernel up pretty badly after about 10-30 seconds. That could have been SMP though. If they don't, I'll probably stop buying nVidia cards. Sorry if I didn't express myself clear enough. My TV card is working when using -xvport 86. I was just mentioning this as a hint (as it might work as well for Mark). And AFAIK it's not XVideo that was dropped but DGA. The latest version working for me is nvidia-driver-1.0.7676_1 (which I'm using at the moment). IIRC with newer version only grabdisplay works, which is not usable for full screen viewing. Infact I'm satisfied with its performance, audio is perfect, I mange to change the skin, now looks great. It is a fresh install of the 6.2-prerelease, I can't remmeber when I checked out the src, but can check if it is important. Note: I don't know if it is related but adding this to my /etc/hosts, helps me for a lot of net-applications problems. 127.0.0.1 localhost aislap where aislap is my hostname, and this is the only active line in the hosts. I can read and write CD's using cdrecord, but I can't play DVD movies using xine. With the internal ATAPI CDRW/DVD-ROM xine works fine, after I edit /etc/devfs.conf a la the handbook, so I'm guessing the problem has to do with the external drive being a native SCSI. Since that had been the one thing viewed as a show-stopper and the release cycle has already dragged on a fair bit longer than expected we'll be moving into the Release Candidate stage very quickly, and the chances of something like this making it into 6.2 are very small I'm afraid. If well tested patches against RELENG_6 can be made within the next couple of days and as long as they are very self-contained (don't wind up touching other drivers much if at all) we'll consider letting it into RELENG_6 before we branch for the release but it might be best to just let this slide for 6.2 and MFC it after the release. Like I said above we've already slipped the release schedule a fair bit, if it hadn't been for a handful of big problems we would have released already and this stuff would have come along too late anyway. :-) --=20 Ken Smith - From there to here, from here to | kensmith@cse.buffalo.edu there, funny things are everywhere. | - Theodore Geisel | --=-LfZtzeve26n7y4ohCjII Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Description: This is a digitally signed message part -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.5 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQBFVdtG/G14VSmup/YRAtGoAJ4r8mrtgLDnO7oGyrZpGwwXFln3jQCgmLmv Iqfr9fv8IukAhgtkgkQ9usc= =QPfR -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-LfZtzeve26n7y4ohCjII--
