We need to set a high SHMMAXPGS for Postgresql, and we're unable to set it above 2 gigs. I've made full patch to allow allocate blocks >1G size as SYSV's shared memory (including that compilation warning fix) and attached to this message. This patch is for 7.0-CURRENT code, but should work with 6.2 too. Don't forget to copy /sys/sys/shm.h into /usr/include/sys/shm.h before recompiling /usr/src/usr.bin/ipcs program. Other programs that are using shmid_ds structure may need recompilation too. Much of the database ends up in the I/O cache of the system. That said, I'd like to try higher SHM values too, especially on the 20Gb box :-) From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Jul 27 04:17:29 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9CCC416A41A for ; Fri, 27 Jul 2007 04:17:29 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from dan@schoolfusion.com) Received: from nz-out-0506.google.com (nz-out-0506.google.com [64.233.162.225]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 66A5A13C45A for ; Fri, 27 Jul 2007 04:17:29 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from dan@schoolfusion.com) Received: by nz-out-0506.google.com with SMTP id l8so593090nzf for ; Thu, 26 Jul 2007 21:17:28 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.115.22.1 with SMTP id z1mr2510936wai.1185509847852; Thu, 26 Jul 2007 21:17:27 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.115.58.11 with HTTP; Thu, 26 Jul 2007 21:17:27 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2007 22:17:27 -0600 From: "Dan Gish" To: "Vasim Valeev" In-Reply-To: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline References: <46A639D8.1030908@centrifugesolutions.com> <113501c7cead$478103d0$8b0a000a@vasimwork> <46A7C370.4030107@schoolfusion.com> Cc: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: 64bit sysv ipc code X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2007 04:17:29 -0000 Hey Vasim, Defining SHMMAX directly still did not work in 6.2. Good news though, I installed 7.0, and your patch worked! I was able to set SHMMAX above 3GB. Thank you so much for your help!! Best, Daniel On 7/25/07, Vasim Valeev wrote: > Hi ! > > Hmm.
