I'm the proud owner of a 3rd generation MacBook (the ones that got released about two weeks ago). For some reason, pressing the power button won't help on those models, so we really need to patch the kernel in those cases. My plan is to run 7.0 and use ZFS on a number of regular SATA-=20= discs (some mixed I've already got). Anyways, the hardware list is the following right now: Gigabyte GA-G33-DS3R, G33, 8x internal SATA Intel Pro/1000PT PCIe Desktop Adapter 1000BaseT Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.67GHz 1333Mhz Socket LGA775, 4MB The mobo was featured on this (or if it was -stable or -current) a =20 while back, it was said that it worked good soo.. Well, I just want to double check since it would be nice to NOT have =20 problems for once (I've had a bad history with nForce mobos and their =20= disk controllers....) And as I've understood, the Intel network controllers should work =20 good too right? Also, I'm looking at memory.. I can get 4GB (2x2GB kit) of PC6400 =20 (800MHz) memory for about 116 euro (or ~$170), or I can get PC8500 =20 (1066Mhz which is the mobos max) for.. hm.. cant even find any 2Gb =20 sticks :/ Dont want any 1Gb sticks, only 4 slots on the mobo.. Well anyway, will i notice any difference in 800 vs 1066MHz? For the ZFS part (maybee wrong list), I was thinking of going with =20 mirrored vdevs (currently I got 6 disks, 3 pairs of different size/=20 model) in one big pool. I've tried different install CDs and different readers (ide, sata and usb) - and they all work on other hardware. No luck with updating BIOS either. All my googling indicate that both i945 and Core Duo should work-ish with both freebsd and linux. None of the RAID conrollers had been working out of the box. I'm curious about those Chips are supported (and me is stupid) and/or if support is upcomming. Sun Blade 6220 - AMD Opteron based, NVIDIA chipset - On sale since 04/2007 - RAID Ctrl onboard - Chipset LSI 1068E - PCI-Code: 1000:0058:1000:1000 (taken from lspci on Debian Etch) IMO support should be in driver 'mpt' since the LSI 1064 works fine in SunFire X4100M2 and SunFire X4200M2. On FreeBSD 6.2, no controller seems to be recognised. On FreeBSD 7.0, accessing the controller results in some kind of request loop (see screenshot taken from ILOM: http://ylz.ch/tmp/snapshot7.png). Sun Blade 6250 - Intel Xeon based, Intel chipset - brand new, on sale since 11/2007 - RAID Ctrl via PCIe backpack onboard - Chipset Intel Sunrise Lake SRL81348 - Chip is from Adaptec with codename Voodoo 80 (or Voodoo 80/08) - PCI-Code: 9005:0285:108e:7aac (taken from lspci on Debian Etch) Support under linux is in driver 'aacraid', driver aac doesn't work with FreeBSD 6.2 and 7.0 The same controller will also be used on SunFire X4150. I will get such a test box on monday and will be trying to get it working until friday. So any help is very much appreciated. Does someone have one of those controllers working on FreeBSD?
