I digged internet to find a solution and i found. As a solution i booted installation disc with SAFE option by pressing 3.That time "disc geometry is wrong " messeage appeared again but when i was continued the installation i got no error and copying the files to HDD was succesful. So installation completed and I was rebooted my computer. As i was choose standard FreeBSD Boot Manager showed up and then i choose FreeBSD by pressing F1.I booted FreeBSD with Default option by pressing 1 and after my computer alerted with sound warnings and there was a message "Wrong boot sector.Press Y to fix or any key to abort".As I mentioned above I was pressed Y to fix it but nothing was happen :( Im not be able to show you a log because there is no OS to record log :) But I have to say there some outputs about UDMA... failure etc. while was trying to fix. I use the workaround of a couple of pings in rc.d/netif (ping -c2 -t2 $ntpdhost or ping -c1 -t1 $ntpdhost) so that ping times out instead of more important services. This usually works for ntpd startup, but not for nfs startup. Nfs doesn't fail, but makes you wish it would, by failing at first and then only retrying after about 30 or 60 seconds, to that booting takes too long. This problem seems to get worse with each release of FreeBSD and/or with newer NICs. I never noticed fxp or even ed or rl NICs. Now it is barely noticeable with fxp and very noticeable with sk, bge and em NICs. For bge, "ifconfig up" after "ifconfig down" takes 2 seconds to return, but the network still isn't quite back up at that point, as shown by "route get $ntpdhost" taking another 5+ seconds to return and the route cloning not even being quite complete when it returns: Under FreeBSD-~5.2: %%% Script started on Tue Jul 31 07:58:24 2007 ttyv1:root@besplex:/tmp> route get delplex; ifconfig bge0 down; time ifconfig b ge0 up; time route get delplex; time route get delplex route to: delplex destination: delplex interface: bge0 flags: recvpipe sendpipe ssthresh rtt, msec rttvar hopcount mtu expire 0 0 0 0 0 0 1500 1052 1.90 real 0.00 user 1.90 sys route to: delplex destination: 192.168.2.0 mask: 255.255.255.0 interface: bge0 flags: recvpipe sendpipe ssthresh rtt, msec rttvar hopcount mtu expire 0 0 0 0 0 0 1500 -7 5.25 real 0.00 user 0.00 sys route to: delplex destination: delplex interface: bge0 flags: recvpipe sendpipe ssthresh rtt, msec rttvar hopcount mtu expire 0 0 0 0 0 0 1500 1200 0.00 real 0.00 user 0.00 sys ttyv1:root@besplex:/tmp> exit Script done on Tue Jul 31 07:58:56 2007 %%% Maybe I should be using "route get $ntpdhost; route get $nfshost ..." instead of the pings, since route(8) apparently waits long enough, while waiting for the minimal amount of time is harder to program with ping (ping -c1 $ntpdhost takes 11+ seconds where "route get $ntpdhost" takes only 5+, and then it is unclear if ping waited long enough since it loses the packet anyway; I avoid this 11+ second wait using -t1 or -t2, but the 1-2 second timeout is apparently not long enough). At boot time, the initial ifconfig seems to involve too much link flapping. At least for bge in -current on a different machine booted to single-user mode so that I can look at the initial state, the interface is already up (but unused), with the message about this being printed a couple of seconds after reaching the shell prompt (actually in the middle of "ifconfig "). Then the initial ifconfig causes the link to go down and up. The behaviour of -current is quite different for the above commands -- both "ifconfig up" and "route get" return before the link is actually up; they return in < 0.01 seconds, but the link still takes about 2 seconds to come back according to the "link state changed" message. This is probably why I'm using the ping hack with a constant timeout -- I had forgotten some details and want to use the same rc.d/netif on all machines. Another difference in -current is that the second "route get" doesn't show the cloning completed. That might be only because I had to test on an inactive machine since bringing bge0 down breaks normal operation. This i386 list is for determined problems, the ticket you submitted is a general support question which should be emailed to the questions mailinglist instead. But, since you appear to be using a custom kernel; can you verify whether you have "device crypto" in the kernel configuration? if not, you should probably add that to the kernel configuration file "MYKERNEL". Was able to boot from it ok. During the sysinstall process after it asks for hard drive fdisk and bsdlable info it asks you for where to get the install files from (IE: cdrom, remote ftp, floppy, dos partition, ECT) there is no option to tell the sysinstall program to use USB-dd as source location. Here is the script I used to populate the USB stick drive with the cd1 .iso info. #!/bin/sh #Purpose = Use to transfer the FreeBSD install cd1 to # a bootable 1GB USB flash drive so it can be used to install from. # First fetch the FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso to your # hard drive /usr. Then execute this script from the command line # fbsd2usb /usr/6.2-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso /usr/6.2-RELEASE-i386-disc1.img # Change system bios to boot from USB-dd and away you go. # NOTE: This script has to be run from root and your 1GB USB flash drive # has to be plugged in before running this script. # On the command line enter fbsd2usb iso-path img-path # You can set some variables here. Edit them to fit your needs. # Set serial variable to 0 if you don't want serial console at all, # 1 if you want comconsole and 2 if you want comconsole and vidconsole serial=0 set -u if [ $# -lt 2 ]; then echo "Usage: $0 source-iso-path output-img-path" exit 1 fi isoimage=$1; shift imgoutfile=$1; shift # Temp directory to be used later #export tmpdir=$(mktemp -d -t fbsdmount) export tmpdir=$(mktemp -d /usr/fbsdmount) export isodev=$(mdconfig -a -t vnode -f ${isoimage}) ISOSIZE=$(du -k ${isoimage} | awk '{print $1}') SECTS=$((($ISOSIZE + ($ISOSIZE/5))*4)) #SECTS=$((($ISOSIZE + ($ISOSIZE/5))*2)) echo " " echo "### Initializing image File started ###" echo "### This will take about 4 minutes ###" date dd if=/dev/zero of=${imgoutfile} count=${SECTS} echo "### Initializing image File completed ###" date echo " " ls -l ${imgoutfile} export imgdev=$(mdconfig -a -t vnode -f ${imgoutfile}) bsdlabel -w -B ${imgdev} newfs -O1 /dev/${imgdev}a mkdir -p ${tmpdir}/iso ${tmpdir}/img mount -t cd9660 /dev/${isodev} ${tmpdir}/iso mount /dev/${imgdev}a ${tmpdir}/img echo " " echo "### Started Copying files to the image now ###" echo "### This will take about 15 minutes ###" date ( cd ${tmpdir}/iso && find . -print -depth | cpio -dump ${tmpdir}/img ) echo "### Completed Copying files to the image ###" date if [ ${serial} -eq 2 ]; then echo "-D" > ${tmpdir}/img/boot.config echo 'console="comconsole, vidconsole"' >> ${tmpdir}/img/boot/loader.conf elif [ ${serial} -eq 1 ]; then echo "-h" > ${tmpdir}/img/boot.config echo 'console="comconsole"' >> ${tmpdir}/img/boot/loader.conf fi echo " " echo "### Started writing image to flash drive now ###" echo "### This will take about 30 minutes ###" date dd if=${imgoutfile} of=/dev/da0 bs=1m echo "### Completed writing image to flash drive at ###" date cleanup() { umount ${tmpdir}/iso mdconfig -d -u ${isodev} umount ${tmpdir}/img mdconfig -d -u ${imgdev} rm -rf ${tmpdir} } cleanup ls -lh ${imgoutfile} echo "### Script finished ###" >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: Make change to sysinstall pgm and add option to use USB-dd as source of install files. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted:
