HITBSecConf - Malaysia is the premier network security event for the region and the largest gathering of hackers in Asia. Our 2007 event is expected to attract over 700 attendees from around the world and will see 4 keynote speakers in addition to 40 deep-knowledge technical researchers presenting over two-days. Being a deep-knowledge technical conference, talks that are more technical or that discuss new and never before seen attack methods are of more interest than a subject that has been covered several times before. Summaries not exceeding 250 words should be submitted (in plain text format) to cfp@hackinthebox.org for review and possible inclusion in the programme. Submissions are due no later than 1st May 2007. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following: # 3G/4G Cellular Networks # SS7/Backbone telephony networks # Analysis of network and security vulnerabilities # Firewall technologies # Intrusion detection # Data Recovery and Incident Response # GPRS and CDMA Security # Identification and Entity Authentication # Network Protocol and Analysis # Smart Card Security # Virus and Worms # WLAN and Bluetooth Security # Analysis of malicious code # Applications of cryptographic techniques # Analysis of attacks against networks and machines # File system security # Security in heterogeneous and large-scale environments PLEASE NOTE: We do not accept product or vendor related pitches. If your talk involves an advertisement for a new product or service your company is offering, please do not submit. Your submission should include: # Name, title, address, email and phone/contact number # Draft of the proposed presentation (in PDF or PowerPoint format), proof of concept for tools and exploits, etc. # Short biography, qualification, occupation, achievement and affiliations (limit 150 words). # Summary or abstract for your presentation (limit 250 words) # Time (45-60 minutes including time for discussion and questions) # Technical requirements (video, internet, wireless, audio, etc.) Each non-resident speaker will receive accommodation for 3 nights. I recently purchased a Delkin eFilm ExpressCard 34 since it copes with SDHC cards. This is an ExpressCard 34mm wide and would fit into either the 54mm wide slot I have, or the narrower 34mm slot popular on Apples. This particular card happens to be USB based. The ExpressCard stanard allows both USB 2.0 and PCI Express cards. Much to my pleasant surprise, it just worked. I plugged it in and that's all it took. Well, that and loading umass. I had looked high and low in the Linux source tree for special code to enable it and couldn't find it, so I thought 'why not buy something to test it out.' Brad Davis was kind enough to send me some money so I could purchase this card (and another). The PCI Express based cards will be harder to support, since we need to grow hot plug pcie support first... I'm the (not so) happy owner of a D-Link DWL-G132. You may know that Damien B. has written some drivers for OpenBSD, named uath, which should work with this : ugen1: on uhub4 USB WLAN Device(0x3a03), Atheros Communications Inc(0x2001) I read somewhere (http://www.freebsd.org/news/status/report-oct-2006-dec-2006.html) that "Support for Atheros USB devices is coming". However, if I found the ural part in the perforce repository of project usb, I did not find something looking like uath. The fact is, I need it. I've begin the work, but that's not as fast and straight-forward as I first thought. Actually, I was using if_wpi for Benjamin Close, if_udav from Shingo Watanabe and if_uath from OpenBSD, trying to mix everything. I did not find ural soon enough to have a look at it, but I'm pretty sure it may help a lot. My question is (yes, I have a question, the purpose of this email is not only to tell you what I do in my life ;)) : would it be worth it ? I mean, if somebody is working on it, I'm willing to help, test, or whatever (I am not afraid of terrible crashes). If nobody is doing it, then, I'll try to finish it on my own. I would also like to know if there is anonymous access (apart from the web) to the perforce repository. I'd like to get the content of http://cvs.freebsd.org/depotTreeBrowser.cgi?FSPC=//depot/projects/usb/src/sys/dev/usb/&HIDEDEL=NO Thanks in advance ! I'd like to get the content of > http://cvs.freebsd.org/depotTreeBrowser.cgi?FSPC=//depot/projects/usb/src/sys/dev/usb/&HIDEDEL=NO I wrote the status item about Atheros usb support and I am the one doing the work. The driver is not ready for public consumption and unfortunately I am way too busy these days to spend time on it. The uath driver from obsd was a good start but was far off the mark in many areas and I basically had to start from scratch. Furthermore uath is based on a firmware revision that was way out of date and my driver is based on a different build that works very differently. The good news is that this new firmware is totally under my control (I build it from source) and it has a license identical to the binary ath hal so can be included in the FreeBSD CVS repository and be distributed as part of FreeBSD (or any other system) once the driver is ready. No eta on getting a driver for test. There is other work far more important at this moment. If you cannot wait you can always port the uath driver from obsd in the meantime. Most of what I put together so far comes from the Installation CD, with a custom kernel based on my previous experience with this hardware on 6.1-R. At this point in the process, most things "just work", without much trouble (e.g., X.org, PCM sound, USB, etc.). Two exceptions, however, are the following: 1. ACPI resume from "acpiconf -s 3" fails to reset ad0 properly, which results in a kernel panic, and hence, a failed resume-from-suspend. 2. The IPv4 address information for the miniPCI-based wi0 device "goes away" after some (random) period of being connected, all-the-while being associated with the AP. Neither of these should be show-stoppers for the new owner of the notebook. I'm very interested in working toward a solution for the first issue, since I own the same hardware, and would like to implemented ACPI on it (in place of APM, which handles suspend/resume reliably). The second issue just bugs me, since I haven't yet found any explanation for this behavior (I tried two different wi(4)-based miniPCI cards, with different firmware, with the same unexplained results). For completeness, I put the text output of a verbose boot dmesg(8) here: Discussion on either or both issues is welcome, as the new owner is anxious to take their new FreeBSD notebook home working as well as it can. -- Dr Gary E RAFE: drgerlists at gmail dot com From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Mar 9 00:49:07 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 16C1616A401 for ; Fri, 9 Mar 2007 00:49:07 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from john@utzweb.net) Received: from marley.grokthis.net (marley.grokthis.net [69.93.78.26]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F2DBA13C441 for ; Fri, 9 Mar 2007 00:49:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from john@utzweb.net) Received: from utzweb.net (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by marley.grokthis.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 40E7BF0FFD for ; Thu, 8 Mar 2007 19:22:26 -0500 (EST) Received: from 69.93.78.27 (proxying for 199.201.237.2) (SquirrelMail authenticated user john-utzweb-net); by utzweb.net with HTTP; Thu, 8 Mar 2007 19:22:26 -0500 (EST) Message-ID: <55475.69.93.78.27.1173399746.squirrel@69.93.78.27> Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2007 19:22:26 -0500 (EST) From: john@utzweb.net To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org User-Agent: SquirrelMail/1.4.3a X-Mailer: SquirrelMail/1.4.3a MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain;charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-Priority: 3 (Normal) Importance: Normal Subject: anybody using (or willing to speculate about) the gateway nx100 ? There is no public p4 access; it's infeasible. The vap code in p4 is way out of date and unsatisfying to work with. Furthermore EVERY time I've given it to someone that person has vanished w/o a trace (well except for the one person that took the code and made a product from it).
