This should be supported with the ipw driver which is available in CURRENT. Unfortunately my card is not detected when loading the module. I included the information which I asumed to be relevant. Does anyone what I can do to fix it. I allready read there were some problems with the ipw driver, but that was allready from a while ago. By the way; I also tried using ndiswrapper, unfortunately my system crashed when trying to load the kernel module so that's not realy an option either. root@Rena# uname -a FreeBSD Rena.FStaals.net 7.0-CURRENT-200709 FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT-200709 #0: Tue Sep 11 04:44:48 UTC 2007 root@almeida.cse.buffalo.edu:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386 root@Rena# cat /boot/loader.conf snd_hda_load="YES" if_ipw_load="YES" ipw_bss_load="YES" ipw_ibss_load="YES" ipw_monitor_load="YES" legal.intel_ipw.license_ack=1 root@Rena# kldstat Id Refs Address Size Name 1 25 0xc0400000 91fe14 kernel 2 1 0xc0d20000 9fd8 if_ipw.ko 3 1 0xc0d2a000 14de4 snd_hda.ko 4 2 0xc0d3f000 52a08 sound.ko 5 1 0xc0d92000 34e78 ipw_bss.ko 6 1 0xc0dc7000 32f14 ipw_ibss.ko 7 1 0xc0dfa000 31d18 ipw_monitor.ko 8 1 0xc0e2c000 6b1b4 acpi.ko 9 1 0xc568e000 11000 ext2fs.ko 10 1 0xc57b6000 22000 linux.ko 11 1 0xc5a26000 6000 i915.ko 12 1 0xc5a2c000 f000 drm.ko root@Rena# dmesg -a | grep ipw root@Rena# ifconfig bge0: flags=8843 metric 0 mtu 1500 options=9b ether 00:1c:23:10:1b:ae inet 192.168.2.5 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.2.255 media: Ethernet autoselect (100baseTX ) status: active fwe0: flags=8802 metric 0 mtu 1500 options=8 ether 46:4f:c0:22:14:70 ch 1 dma -1 fwip0: flags=8802 metric 0 mtu 1500 lladdr 44.4f.c0.0.1d.22.14.70.a.2.ff.fe.0.0.0.0 lo0: flags=8049 metric 0 mtu 16384 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 root@Rena# Regards, -- -Frank Staals From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Oct 3 16:54:06 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 069B016A417 for ; Wed, 3 Oct 2007 16:54:05 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from frankstaals@gmx.net) Received: from mail.gmx.net (mail.gmx.net [213.165.64.20]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 213F713C461 for ; Wed, 3 Oct 2007 16:54:04 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from frankstaals@gmx.net) Received: (qmail invoked by alias); 03 Oct 2007 16:54:03 -0000 Received: from ip176-173-59-62.adsl.versatel.nl (EHLO Rena.FStaals.net) [62.59.173.176] by mail.gmx.net (mp039) with SMTP; 03 Oct 2007 18:54:03 +0200 X-Authenticated: #25365336 X-Provags-ID: V01U2FsdGVkX19rjppiRvdrXuYyDDS6a8qyD1jw0j9H63fkNKhy4j 1TG9LbULNEy7s1 Message-ID: <4703C925.3020001@gmx.net> Date: Wed, 03 Oct 2007 18:53:57 +0200 From: Frank Staals User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 (X11/20070929) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Sam Leffler References: <4703B7EF.6030603@gmx.net> <4703C47D.3010905@errno.com> In-Reply-To: <4703C47D.3010905@errno.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Y-GMX-Trusted: 0 Cc: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Intel 3945ABG with ipw driver on CURRENT X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 03 Oct 2007 16:54:06 -0000 Sam Leffler wrote: > Frank Staals wrote: >> Hey, >> >> Last week I finally received my Dell Latitude D630 which is using the >> Intel 3945ABG chipset for it's wireless connectivity. Configure the Function Key (FK)to turn on and off the wireless radio. Do you mean, Fn-F5 (or similar on your laptop ?, mine is F5). First, u need to ensure the radio switch is on, if u have one (its the physical switch @ the front). After that, the Fn-F5 is only a software switch... doesn't really do anything. You can map functionality to the Fn- keys combinations by having acpi_ibm.ko loaded, setting dev.acpi_ibm.0.events=1 and using a custom devd.conf to handle the messages. There are emails on this list's archive on how to achieve that functionality. (i believe in the 2006-2007 archives) Some of them were sent by me. You probably want to have a script being called from devd. to handle all the heavy lifting. > 2. FYI, I've tried the driver a number of times since I've had the machine (~1 yr), and the results have been either spectacular lockups, or unable to attach to the hardware. Kernel conf is mainly GENERIC: include GENERIC ident ZOOT machine i386 nocpu I486_CPU nocpu I586_CPU options SC_PIXEL_MODE options SC_HISTORY_SIZE=3D1000 options VESA options SMP device crypto options GEOM_ELI nooptions INVARIANTS nooptions INVARIANT_SUPPORT nooptions WITNESS nooptions WITNESS_SKIPSCAN options ALT_BREAK_TO_DEBUGGER device atapicam device vt device drm device i915drm options NDISAPI device ndis The device ids of the card are: none0@pci0:8:0:0: class=3D0x028000 card=3D0x135c103c chip=3D0x4222808= 6 rev=3D0x02 hdr=3D0x00 This is of minimal importance to me - I have wires everywhere and a ural usb stick for when I haven't - but if it helps get the driver debugged, I can try any patchs. > 2.
