Could you please visit http://people.freebsd.org/~fenner/portsurvey/multimedia@freebsd.org.html and correct the problems listed there? The individual ports with problems are multimedia/libdivxencore,multimedia/tovid. If you have already corrected the problems and submitted a PR, please accept my thanks and apologies for the delay in getting the fixes into the tree. This reminder is created automatically and does not (yet) have a way to know if a PR fixing the problem has been submitted. Please do *NOT* send your response to me directly; I do not necessarily have time to commit your fix; please instead submit a PR via 'send-pr' so it doesn't get lost. Problems are usually of two types: 1. The software package has been upgraded and the version in the port has been removed. The best solution to this problem is to upgrade the port to the most current version of the software package. If you are a FreeBSD committer, then you can just upgrade the port directly. If not, you should create the updated port on your own machine, test it (and maybe even run "portlint" on it), and then use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -uNr old-port updated-port". If you added or deleted any files, please make an explicit note of it. 2. The mirror site being used no longer contains the software package in question, or no longer exists. Solutions include: a) If there are other mirror sites, just remove the bad site from the list. (Make sure that what appears to be a bad site isn't actually a problem of type 1, upgrade) b) If the README or other support files in the software documentation mention where to get the software package, use one of those sites. c) Use a search engine to find another place to get the original DISTFILES. Make sure that you don't pick a FreeBSD distfiles mirror -- if you can't find any other places where the file exists, it can be a LOCAL_PORT or you can simply comment out the MASTER_SITES= line, with a comment explaining why. Once you have a solution, use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -u" of the Makefile. Note that this isn't an urgent issue, as people who try to build the port now will just fall back to the FreeBSD distfiles mirror. Please just put it on your list to do and get to it when you have time. These messages will continue to arrive twice a month until the fix is committed, as a reminder. Thanks, Bill "distfiles" Fenner. (Hey it's BSD ok?) I'm currently (and often) broadcasting a test stream at rtsp://jello.ironport.com:80/Bsdtest.sdp I do have several questions. 1/ what is the best protocol/codec/etc. I'm currently using mpeg-4 audio and video .. is that ok? also for ease of coping with firewalls I'm using RTP over RTSP (I think that's right) on port 80 though others might work....? 2/ does anyone know how to get mplayer to show this stuff? 3/ people have had success using VLC. does anyone have an definative description of how to set it up to work? 4/ has anyone recently figured out how to stream from BSD? I've heard rumours of VLC being able to do it but I'm not an expert in all this. I wish there was a good reference on this.. Also, the LIVEMEDIA option needs to be enabled when building mplayer (which is off by default from what I've checked). Ok guys, this is embarrasing. After lots of kernel recompiling, I looked for other reasons of my silent headset. Looks like it has to do with the mixer all along, but in an entirely different manner. $ mixer -f /dev/mixer1 Mixer pcm is currently set to 75:75 Mixer mic is currently set to 0:0 Recording source: mic This is my normal mixer output for this headset. Strange thing is, that the 'mic' level functions like a genuine 'vol' level. It affects both playback and recording, though. Weird, huh? Ok, I'll give it a try. Haven't tested everything, so there might be some errors. If you want to use mplayer: - cd /usr/ports/multimedia/mplayer && make install clean OR portinstall multimedia/mplayer - make sure livemedia is selected: [X] LIVEMEDIA - mplayer -rtsp-stream-over-tcp rtsp://jello.ironport.com:80/Bsdtest.sdp If you already installed mplayer, but get the following error: "RTSP support requires the "LIVE555 Streaming Media" libraries." - cd /usr/ports/multimedia/mplayer - make config - make sure livemedia is selected: [X] LIVEMEDIA - make deinstall reinstall clean OR portupgrade -f multimedia/mplayer If you want to use vlc: - cd /usr/ports/multimedia/vlc - make install clean OR portinstall multimedia/vlc - make sure faad is selected: [X] FAAD - start vlc - Settings->Preferences -> check "Advanced options" -> go to Input/Codecs->Demuxers->RTP/RTSP and check "Use RTP over RTSP (TCP)" -> Save - File->Open Network Stream, check "RTSP", URL: rtsp://jello.ironport.com:80/Bsdtest.sdp OR $vlc rtsp://jello.ironport.com:80/Bsdtest.sdp If you already installed vlc, but get no sound: - cd /usr/ports/multimedia/vlc - make config - make sure faad is selected: [X] FAAD - make deinstall reinstall clean OR portupgrade -f multimedia/vlc I haven't yet succeeded using xine for the test stream. Notes: - I haven't tested if it works if you disable any of the default options (disabling LIVEMEDA for vlc is probably a bad idea). - I usually use the -R option for portupgrade to be sure that all dependent ports are up-to-date as well. (from long time ago when I had a more than healthy interest in RealVideo) Rtsp is preferably used over UDP (that is the A/V data) together with a control "channel" over TCP for the play/pause/feedback sort of things. So "rtsp over tcp" will be (very) suboptimal as there needs to be confirmation of every datagram. If it's also possible to send the a/v stream over UDP and to play it you'd rather use that. Will that make it more robust? the problem is firewalls. what ports need to be opened to the server to allow 1/ the optimal broadcaster (me at BSDCan) 2/ the optimal client (people wanting to attend remotely) 3/ forwarding the session to a relay if the original server gets to full. > > Dan > _______________________________________________ > freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-multimedia > To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-multimedia-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Thu May 10 00:16:20 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9EAEC16A403 for ; Thu, 10 May 2007 00:16:20 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bakul@bitblocks.com) Received: from mail.bitblocks.com (ns1.bitblocks.com [64.142.15.60]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 84CBD13C44B for ; Thu, 10 May 2007 00:16:20 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bakul@bitblocks.com) Received: from bitblocks.com (localhost.bitblocks.com [127.0.0.1]) by mail.bitblocks.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4CD3B5B2E; Wed, 9 May 2007 16:44:34 -0700 (PDT) To: Julian Elischer In-reply-to: Your message of "Wed, 09 May 2007 16:20:30 PDT." <4642573E.7010404@elischer.org> Date: Wed, 09 May 2007 16:44:34 -0700 From: Bakul Shah Message-Id: <20070509234434.4CD3B5B2E@mail.bitblocks.com> Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: Re: streaming guru needed X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 10 May 2007 00:16:20 -0000 > Danny Pansters wrote: > > On Wednesday 09 May 2007 21:03:35 Stefan Ehmann wrote: > >> On Wednesday 09 May 2007 02:45:13 Julian Elischer wrote: > >>> Julian Elischer wrote: > >>>> So, to continue on the topic of my last email, > >>>> I'll be webcasting from BSDCan and teh FreeBSD devsummit that is with > >>>> it. however I'll be using my Mac because I've used it before > >>>> and I don't have time to experiment.. It has been a while but from what I remember rtsp does not have acks as it was designed to work the same way over udp and tcp and A/V can tolerate loss of a few packets so no sense in having acks. No, you're the one who's misunderstanding. RTSP is the 'control protocol'. It always runs over TCP. The actual audio/video streaming is done using RTP, which is usually sent over UDP, but can, optionally, be sent instead over TCP (using the same TCP connection that RTSP uses). -- Ross Finlayson Live Networks, Inc. http://www.live555.com/ From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Thu May 10 04:04:23 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D06D316A404 for ; Thu, 10 May 2007 04:04:23 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bakul@bitblocks.com) Received: from mail.bitblocks.com (ns1.bitblocks.com [64.142.15.60]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B882C13C448 for ; Thu, 10 May 2007 04:04:23 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bakul@bitblocks.com) Received: from bitblocks.com (localhost.bitblocks.com [127.0.0.1]) by mail.bitblocks.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id ABA475B50; Wed, 9 May 2007 21:04:22 -0700 (PDT) To: Ross Finlayson In-reply-to: Your message of "Wed, 09 May 2007 20:24:27 EDT." RTSP is the 'control > protocol'. It always runs over TCP. It _has_ been a while :-) I was thinking of the media delivery portion only, not the control portion. In any case rtsp does not have acks and yes technically it can be over udp and yes, you can interleave media data on the same session so it is not a pure control protocol either (though you can think of it as such). The spec says: An RTSP session is in no way tied to a transport-level connection such as a TCP connection. During an RTSP session, an RTSP client may open and close many reliable transport connections to the server to issue RTSP requests. Alternatively, it may use a connectionless transport protocol such as UDP. Though it is likely this was left over from some earlier rev. I no longer recall if (one of) the starting point(s) for RTSP was RTTP2, an internal Real Networks effort, but I assume so given Rob Lanphier is one of the RFC authors but I don't really know. In any case RTTP2 could go over either UDP or TCP and I will admit I was thinking of that! I don't know for sure, sorry. IIRC Real's A/V/RTSP uses (or used) 554/UDP but I can't say if this is universal. It may depend solely on your steaming server. There must be some RFC to consult. Also, if nothing else helps look into the source code to your server software. Hope I've got the right end of the horse here, it's going back a bit .. We ran a realserver for a fair while, while there was a 'stable' FreeBSD binary anyway, and for way too long after, on a dinky 56k modem link :) Apart from over HTTP, rtsp 554/tcp #Real Time Stream Control Protocol rtsp 554/udp #Real Time Stream Control Protocol and you'll already know about appleqtc 458/tcp #apple quick time appleqtc 458/udp #apple quick time and (consulting an old stateless firewall) realplayer by default used sometimes 6970-6973? but the default 7070-7073 UDP main port and range, and most of (clients' and ISP's) firewalls will let these pass. I seem to recall quicktime (audio anyway) could/did allow/suggest at least one of those UDP ranges also (because ISPs commonly let it flow), but I could easily be forgetting what was when and who did what to whom. I see my Billion ADSL router by default allows 7070 in and out, labelled '_rav' on 'medium' security level, so that's the commonest default port, but as I said, this is dredging up the past .. I've done no video stuff. > > what ports need to be opened to the server to allow 1/ the optimal > > broadcaster (me at BSDCan) > > 2/ the optimal client (people wanting to attend remotely) > > 3/ forwarding the session to a relay if the original server gets to full.
