Could you please visit http://people.freebsd.org/~fenner/portsurvey/x11@freebsd.org.html and correct the problems listed there? The individual ports with problems are x11-servers/xorg-server-snap,x11/damageext,x11/fixesext. If you have already corrected the problems and submitted a PR, please accept my thanks and apologies for the delay in getting the fixes into the tree. This reminder is created automatically and does not (yet) have a way to know if a PR fixing the problem has been submitted. Please do *NOT* send your response to me directly; I do not necessarily have time to commit your fix; please instead submit a PR via 'send-pr' so it doesn't get lost. Problems are usually of two types: 1. The software package has been upgraded and the version in the port has been removed. The best solution to this problem is to upgrade the port to the most current version of the software package. If you are a FreeBSD committer, then you can just upgrade the port directly. If not, you should create the updated port on your own machine, test it (and maybe even run "portlint" on it), and then use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -uNr old-port updated-port". If you added or deleted any files, please make an explicit note of it. 2. The mirror site being used no longer contains the software package in question, or no longer exists. Solutions include: a) If there are other mirror sites, just remove the bad site from the list. (Make sure that what appears to be a bad site isn't actually a problem of type 1, upgrade) b) If the README or other support files in the software documentation mention where to get the software package, use one of those sites. c) Use a search engine to find another place to get the original DISTFILES. Make sure that you don't pick a FreeBSD distfiles mirror -- if you can't find any other places where the file exists, it can be a LOCAL_PORT or you can simply comment out the MASTER_SITES= line, with a comment explaining why. Once you have a solution, use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -u" of the Makefile. Note that this isn't an urgent issue, as people who try to build the port now will just fall back to the FreeBSD distfiles mirror. Please just put it on your list to do and get to it when you have time. These messages will continue to arrive twice a month until the fix is committed, as a reminder. Thanks, Bill "distfiles" Fenner. I didn't get far. I did 'portupgrade libGL' and 'pkg_info | grep -i libgl' shows I have libGL-6.5.2 installed. However, attempts to build xdriinfo fail with 'configure:3365: error: cannot find GL library - make sure Mesa or other OpenGL package is installed.' I attached config.log. Any ideas? Now that most ports are X11BASE-clean, I'm going to move X.org ports to ${LOCALBASE} (as opposed to ${X11BASE}, where they live now). So expect a commit talking about X.org PREFIX in the next few days. Actually, I advise using git-whatchanged and git-log before you make any upgrade of your installed ports. The prefix change should need a PORTREVISION bump but I won't do it (cause I'm too lazy), so you'll have to type something like "portupgrade -R xorg\*". You've been warned! PS: If you have unresolved issues not listed in the wiki page, please raise your hand. PS2: If you have plenty of time and a test machine, please try to upgrade from 6.9 to 7.2.r3 again with the new instructions. I guess that the wiki is for us. Actually, I had to laugh when I looked at this latest version, you sound tired. I liked that (or only install the necessary bits, etc, that's when I thought, yeah, he's had it with this.) It might be worthwhile to put a link on the wiki to Dru's guide to upgrading, and maybe even my own. Dru's is at http://blogs.ittoolbox.com/unix/bsd/archives/xorg-72-on-freebsd-13661 Mine is at http://forums.bsdnexus.com/viewtopic.php?id=1541 > PS2: If you have plenty of time and a test machine, please try to > upgrade from 6.9 to 7.2.r3 again with the new instructions. My own list--(it'd be great if other people give their opinions too--SirDice, if you're reading this, it's a start at our xorg-lite) :) After deinstalling (or in a fresh install, where one hasn't yet put any X related things.) xorg-libraries xorg-fonts-${truetype type1 100-dpi 75-dpi miscbitmaps} twm and xterm (if you don't already have your own WM and xterm of choice), xauth, xinit (forgetting that one leaves you without startx which is embarrassing) and xkbcomp. (Leaving out xkbcomp left me having to use xmodmap to set Mod4 to be the Windows key, left me without the | key in some terminals, etc.). xorg-server xf86-input${keyboard mouse videodriver of choice}. (I've had no trouble running vmware without the vmware driver, by the way.) As the above will pull in various other things, it has worked for me, especially if I then install (on a fresh installation for example) fluxbox and mlterm. The options will propably mostly be related to drivers and maybe some apps in that case. The drawback is that we might get horrible Makefiles because of all options and so on... Well, I am/was. The idea is that even if you only install the necessary things you need, loads of ports depend on xorg-* metaports, so if you install other ports, chances are it will bring all xorg-apps for example (or all xorg-fonts, but not all the servers and drivers). I can't fix all ports to only detect the X apps they need, but I can give to experimented users the choice to make their own selection. This is an issue I'll try to address soon (like well, this week probably, between two Zelda Twilight Princess sessions). > It might be worthwhile to put a link on the wiki to Dru's guide to > upgrading, and maybe even my own. =20 >=20 > Dru's is at >=20 > http://blogs.ittoolbox.com/unix/bsd/archives/xorg-72-on-freebsd-13661 >=20 > Mine is at >=20 > http://forums.bsdnexus.com/viewtopic.php?id=3D1541 I think I already thanked you and everybody who reported failures (and success sometimes) but it doesn't hurt to do it again, so thank you. Testing takes a long time and I definitely couldn't have done everything by myself. That said, while I like people testing and stuff, I definitely think that centralizing documentation is a good thing. IMHO it would have been a good thing to give a mention to the wiki page saying that it is the reference to upgrade. Should your document (or Dru's) get stale, I still can update the wiki page with new information (and mention when it's not needed anymore, hopefully RSN). >> PS2: If you have plenty of time and a test machine, please try to >> upgrade from 6.9 to 7.2.r3 again with the new instructions. Now with 7.2... I compiled xorg-server without aiglx. I tried to start xorg with/without most modules. But every time it just displays a blank white screen - and that's it. Also, no matter whether dri/glx/GLcore is loaded or not there's a message in the log about direct rendering being disabled. I can switch back to text consoles, and I can Ctrl-Alt-Backspace out of xorg with no ill effects - but that's about all func- tionality I get. Stas, I remember you had some solution for a Radeon adapter on your notebook. It's probably not 1100, but still if you have a minute, could you remind me what you did then? Thanks! P.S. being sick of getting the only suggestion from Google searches - to use fglrx proprietary drivers, I'm now close to understanding Net/OpenBSD people trying to get 3d from nVidia cards and ending up with a crapload of "switch to FreeBSD" advice. Unfortunately drm won't work as there's no drm support for Xpress 1100 yet. I tried adding the pciid, but xorg just hangs at start. No skill/ motivation to hack radeon driver at the moment. However, the white screen problem stays with drm/glx/GLcore turned off. Thanks! No rush, 6.9 is working perfectly for me :-) Well, the drm itself doesn't even support the family of Xpress 1100, there's little chance it will miraculously work just because the driver attaches. I'll try the patch later, I'm very tired of crashing my system. Lost a lot of time and bytes to fsck :-( Thanks! I must have missed this e-mail about the ati drm hanging (unless, of course, it was originally sent off list), but I just wanted to point out that this is not completely accurate. I have direct rendering working on an AGP x700 with 7.2.0 RC3 and haven't experienced a hang yet. I only see three real issues with the ATI support at the moment: 1) Enabling AIGLX will hang the machine (perhaps this is the hang mentioned above... If that's the case, I'd love to get my hands on the patch mentioned as well). 2) PCIe is not 100% supported most likely due to problems with ati_pcigart.c 3) The linux_dri-devel port is older than I would personally like :-) That's easily worked around if you can compile the drivers on a linux box and copy them over. In theory... In= =20 practice, who knows? :-) I did, briefly, use the 2D open source radeon=20 driver from Debian (using xorg 6.9) on FreeBSD over a year ago. But I've=20 never played with the fglrx driver under FreeBSD. Background: I have a ThinkPad R51e with this integrated chip, and when I tried to install 7.0-CURRENT and the 6.9 version of xorg from ports, the radeon driver failed to work. All it did was to switch the screen into graphics mode and then there it stayed, completely black (with occasional blurred greenish lines in some cases) and it was not possible to get either a working X display or a text console back. The machine did not freeze, it was possible to use it remotely, in fact it even reacted to keys pressed on the keboard, only the screen was unusable until a reboot. The vesa(4) driver worked of course, but I would like to have xvideo and 2D acceleration support if possible. (I am aware that 3D accel does not work on these chips yet except for the fglrx driver) Later I tried an Ubuntu live CD that came with xorg 7.1.1 and also used the radeon driver, and the X display worked there. So my question is: is it something that I am doing wrong, or does the X200M really not work with the radeon driver in the xorg port that we have now (either on RELENG_6 or HEAD) If it does not work now, is this likely different in the new modular xorg version that is up for testing? The X200M is rather frequently found in modern laptops, so I hope that people have some experience... -- Best regards: Szilveszter ADAM Budapest Hungary From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jan 13 12:09:46 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4FA7216A403 for ; Sat, 13 Jan 2007 12:09:46 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from adamk@voicenet.com) Received: from b.mx.visualtech.com (a.imap.visualtech.com [208.16.19.9]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2B41513C45A for ; Sat, 13 Jan 2007 12:09:45 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from adamk@voicenet.com) Received: from [192.168.0.101] (c-68-45-180-45.hsd1.nj.comcast.net [68.45.180.45]) by b.mx.visualtech.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id D62AB48385; Sat, 13 Jan 2007 07:09:42 -0500 (EST) From: Adam K Kirchhoff To: Szilveszter Adam In-Reply-To: <20070113061841.GA4107@baranyfelhocske.buza.adamsfamily.xx> References: <20070113061841.GA4107@baranyfelhocske.buza.adamsfamily.xx> Content-Type: text/plain Date: Sat, 13 Jan 2007 07:09:41 -0500 Message-Id: <1168690181.72501.1.camel@sorrow.ashke.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Evolution 2.8.2.1 FreeBSD GNOME Team Port Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Subject: Re: State of support for Radeon X200M on FreeBSD? I have no experience with that chipset, however Xorg 6.9 is very old these days. You may want to try using the Modular Xorg ports tree. I've got Xpress 1100 (identified as X200M) working perfectly on current/xorg 6.9, but it has issues with 7.2. If you can login during the black screen, try taking Xorg.0.log and posting it here.
