Since /usr/X11R6/lib is in the library list before /usr/local/lib, I see : ldd work/bdftopcf-1.0.1/bdftopcf work/bdftopcf-1.0.1/bdftopcf: libXfont.so.1 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXfont.so.1 (0x28080000) libc.so.5 => /lib/libc.so.5 (0x280e6000) which I can't understand how anyone ever got bdftopcf to work during upgrade. It linked fine since there was an -L/usr/local/lib in the cc line, but during its execution it seems to be taking it from my library path, which causes it to complain of a Undefined reference to serverClient in libXfont. The original Xfont was put in as part of the meta port xorg-libraries-6.9.0 . It seems this Xfont came about, without the other one being deleted as follows : 1) portupgrade was upgrading xorg-fonts-encodings-6.9.0_1 to encodings-1.0.2,1 2) portupgrade then realized it needed mkfontscale so started to work on that 3) mkfontscale needed libfontenc 4) With those 2 resolved, it then went for bdftopcf 5) bdftopcf needed libXfont So at this point it was installing libXfont when it already had the one from xorg-libraries-6.9.0 there, hence the problem apparently started. Ok, so what do I do now? I'm mid build, I don't have X installed or running, and I have atleast 1894 font files that are incorrect at the current moment.... I still don't get why I ran into this and others didn't. Did I miss a step that would have removed the xorg-libraries? Thanks, Tuc From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jul 24 04:42:32 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: x11@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 72EA716A41A for ; Tue, 24 Jul 2007 04:42:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from admin2@enabled.com) Received: from typhoon.enabled.com (typhoon.enabled.com [216.218.220.21]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 48F7B13C481 for ; Tue, 24 Jul 2007 04:42:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from admin2@enabled.com) Received: from [172.24.241.227] (natint3.juniper.net [66.129.224.36]) (authenticated bits=0) by typhoon.enabled.com (8.14.1/8.14.1) with ESMTP id l6O4TOM5030981 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=NOT) for ; Mon, 23 Jul 2007 21:29:25 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from admin2@enabled.com) Message-ID: <46A58021.8000700@enabled.com> Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2007 23:29:21 -0500 From: Noah User-Agent: Thunderbird 1.5.0.12 (Macintosh/20070509) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: x11@FreeBSD.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: Subject: mergebase script failing X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2007 04:42:32 -0000 I am a newbie at building X11 on freeBSD6.2 machine. I got to the point that the sh /usr/ports/Tools/scripts/mergebase.sh script fails. Here is the output that I am not quite sure how to circumvent. I am not quite sure what to do with the files in "/usr/X11R6" please help --- snip --- Files that exist both in /usr/local and /usr/X11R6 have been found as shown above. Merging will not continue. While some such files are safe to remove as they will be regenerated (like /usr/X11R6/man/whatis), some you might want to move away somewhere safe, and some might point to conflicts in ports. For this script to continue, you need to either move these files away from /usr/X11R6 or delete them. If you don't know what to do about a particular file, ask on x11@FreeBSD.org mailing list. It allows me to remove all of my workarounds. In addition, I no longer have the xserver exit hangs. I get a white screen when I restart the xserver and beryl. This is probably the driver not restoring the card state on exit. I havn't looked at the driver code on the use of device_unbusy(dev->device) yet, but was wondering if it really should be per close? It does appear to be the best solution and probably the right one at this point. Assuming that you have AIGLX enabled in your xorg.conf, did you reboot before launching X with beryl? If not, try after a reboot and see if you still get a white screen on the first try as there seems to be a few more bugs in the ATI code with xserver restarts. If that doesn't do it, then it's probably a bug that got fixed by my using the the development branch of 1) the ati driver, 2) drm driver, 3) xserver. My ati and drm drivers have some custom patches as well. Here the path I'm going to recommend if your willing: 1) Upgrade your ati driver to 6.6.192 then consider patching to match the development branch. I can send you my patches which also has a patch to the RADEONRestoreAccelState function which may be required for stability. 2) Update the drm driver to match the development branch. I can send you my port which also has patches required to prevent kernel hangs. 3) Update the xserver to the development branch and mesa 7.0. Also requires updating the keyboard and mouse drivers as well as the pixman port. I can send these to you as well. Unfortunately polish keyboard layout doesn't work anymore. I've got following error message in Xorg.0.log: ''' Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap ''' Even switching to raw console mode via ALT-F1, ALT-F2 doesn't work anymore. I fixed problem by portdowngrade to 0.9_3. Best regards, -- .:: Piter // phlawski$gmail, com // gg: 4534287 ::. I'm a newbie, flame me, love me, cherish me, hate me.. I just installed FreeBSD 6.2 and was configuring X well, xorg -configure or the like commands didnt work ended up having to go with xorgconfig I then had a problem that didnt really make sense. if the resolution is 640x480, everything works normally. If i use a higher resolution (which i want to , to be able to multitask reasonably, or even just use a browser to fit the screen) the mouse fails, it shoots up to the top right side of the screen and stays there.. some times opening the menu when i try to move it. this makes no sense to me, because i cant see how the video drivers and mouse drivers would effect each other.. anyone else ever heard of a problem like this?
