No, failed monitoring on one of the reporting servers ... we added a second circuit onto our network in '07 to deal with some DDoS issues, and moved our secondary reporting server onto that circuit end of Dec, and failed to notice that it wasn't connecting properly to the database server ... Everything is fixed now, but we lost the '1st of the month' data that went through that reporting server :( I'm working on fixing the stats, as someone else suggested, so that we're dealing with 'last 30 days' (or even 60) vs 'this month', which will hopefully make the reported stats a bit less 'jumpy' ... working on that one tonight ... - ---- Marc G. Well, technically, it was because the server didn't have enough RAM for the workload it was given. Turning off memory overcommit wouldn't fix that, it would just change the symptoms. I don't know of a single server OS that doesn't overcommit memory. The only difference between them is how they behave once the shit hits the fan. Anyway, as somebody else mentioned, the details are in the archives - if you don't know enough English to find them there, I don't see how having them summarized in English will help. If the language barrier really is a problem, ask someone who speaks your language to help you. Yes, but when they have a multi-gigabyte-RAM server, and told that Linux will be better - no matter they are technically so competent or not, we can loose users... > I don't know of a single server OS that doesn't overcommit memory. The > only difference between them is how they behave once the shit hits the > fan. I've heard about disabling it for selected processes or things like memory reservation backed by temporary files done by OS (afair, it was HP-UX). Or Linux overcommit switch, for which this ordinary people are happy enough to not blame (here are defaults): master:~# cat /proc/sys/vm/overcommit_ratio 50 master:~# cat /proc/sys/vm/overcommit_memory 0 master:~# cat /usr/src/linux-2.6.16.21-0.8/Documentation/vm/overcommit-accounting The Linux kernel supports the following overcommit handling modes 0 - Heuristic overcommit handling. Obvious overcommits of address space are refused. Used for a typical system. It ensures a seriously wild allocation fails while allowing overcommit to reduce swap usage. root is allowed to allocate slighly more memory in this mode. This is the default. 1 - Always overcommit. Appropriate for some scientific applications. 2 - Don't overcommit. The total address space commit for the system is not permitted to exceed swap + a configurable percentage (default is 50) of physical RAM. Depending on the percentage you use, in most situations this means a process will not be killed while accessing pages but will receive errors on memory allocation as appropriate. The overcommit policy is set via the sysctl `vm.overcommit_memory'. The overcommit percentage is set via `vm.overcommit_ratio'. The current overcommit limit and amount committed are viewable in /proc/meminfo as CommitLimit and Committed_AS respectively. Gotchas ------- The C language stack growth does an implicit mremap. If you want absolute guarantees and run close to the edge you MUST mmap your stack for the largest size you think you will need. For typical stack usage this does not matter much but it's a corner case if you really really care In mode 2 the MAP_NORESERVE flag is ignored. How It Works ------------ The overcommit is based on the following rules For a file backed map SHARED or READ-only - 0 cost (the file is the map not swap) PRIVATE WRITABLE - size of mapping per instance For an anonymous or /dev/zero map SHARED - size of mapping PRIVATE READ-only - 0 cost (but of little use) PRIVATE WRITABLE - size of mapping per instance Additional accounting Pages made writable copies by mmap shmfs memory drawn from the same pool Status ------ o We account mmap memory mappings o We account mprotect changes in commit o We account mremap changes in size o We account brk o We account munmap o We report the commit status in /proc o Account and check on fork o Review stack handling/building on exec o SHMfs accounting o Implement actual limit enforcement To Do ----- o Account ptrace pages (this is hard) master:~# > Anyway, as somebody else mentioned, the details are in the archives - if > you don't know enough English to find them there, I don't see how having > them summarized in English will help. Of course, in case this is really so - or maybe we want to commit a patch (Kostik Belousov's one may be good start point) with tunable allowing to disable overcommit?.. -- WBR, Vadim Goncharov From owner-freebsd-advocacy@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jan 8 10:10:30 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-advocacy@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7E68816A46C for ; Tue, 8 Jan 2008 10:10:30 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from candyshop999@gmail.com) Received: from wx-out-0506.google.com (wx-out-0506.google.com [66.249.82.227]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5478C13C448 for ; Tue, 8 Jan 2008 10:10:30 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from candyshop999@gmail.com) Received: by wx-out-0506.google.com with SMTP id i29so2689542wxd.7 for ; Tue, 08 Jan 2008 02:10:29 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:received:received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type; bh=8ni5Q8qasx7cHcbTOKY6ncTGQ2CCrSJFMueP4P8CIuo=; b=wcHW/glgNWywE37oe510K0DxKH3xPtXcuDXkxyj6x+rI8Mm2MNSvpq8aqw+n5X9CyFzf4q9RRWJ9pOvoEIqa3gYt3JCa1oCs6h5hBCDdatRg/BYHJCT8EtlyzowSClwrJY4k1/M+TFp31sclqh5hst7/2D5iyAUwn5ajvRKXmew= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type; b=CUdJ+inhRD7esEHPlz282MCNdjTRPls3oUYBE7/+dHaBCQC1FeABgwW2GXd3YkmuEj52YM26grKh3kenyXYiNcfywN+tSMMsheaSjDJrCIrJyDGDoDVBQrmy+P82ArXRdyB7goIxgLyWrKC+bWFFUmP9DiILSiRjIuwraAhTOUI= Received: by 10.150.212.14 with SMTP id k14mr193772ybg.148.1199785339228; Tue, 08 Jan 2008 01:42:19 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.150.156.8 with HTTP; Tue, 8 Jan 2008 01:42:19 -0800 (PST) Message-ID: Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2008 11:42:19 +0200 From: "Super Star" To: freebsd-advocacy@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Subject: Liberty League International, Online Marketing Mindset For The New Year X-BeenThere: freebsd-advocacy@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Evangelism List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 08 Jan 2008 10:10:30 -0000 Liberty League International, Online Marketing Mindset For The New Year It is the start of 2007 and is the time to set your New Years resolution. I suggest that you set a personal and a business resolution. Whatever you decide you want to improve in your life whether it is to become wealthy in your online marketing business or to just be a better person, it takes a strong mindset to keep a resolution for longer than 1 day, week or month. You must believe that you are capable of reaching your goals, maybe this can be your News Years resolution to have a better mindset, and then other things in your life will also start to take shape the way you want them to. What is the proper mindset? It is the ability to believe you are capable of conquering a set task and to truly believe that it will happen and that you deserve it. You will attract what you consistently think about and you must be aware that your thoughts are very powerful. You must take all negativity out of your life. Thinking negative or being around negative people will only cause you to fail. Find a good support team who are willing to encourage you, and if that means stepping outside of your normal support group, then do it. You may find support within your online marketing team. You must work on your mindset daily with self-talks, reading books about the subject or listening to recorded cd?s or tapes. There are many free books and downloadable audios on the subject; all you have to do is spend a few minutes looking for the information. Your local library can also be a good source for finding quality information. Your mindset will help you to overcome the times when you are struggling at keeping your resolution. You must visualize and internalize yourself as being the person you want to become. You must first see yourself as the person that you want others to see. When you do this over and over again it will start to become the reality you are seeking. Whether your resolution is to lose 30 pounds, quit smoking or if it's to be a create wealth at Online Marketing, you must see yourself as this person. Remember the children?s story The Little Engine That Could that never gave up. Become the little engine in your online marketing business and get better rewards for your efforts. Everything you want is within your reach, you just have to make it come true. www.libertyleagueinternational.info www.libertyleagueconference.com www.beyondfreedom.com From owner-freebsd-advocacy@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jan 8 10:14:16 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-advocacy@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CC88116A41A for ; Tue, 8 Jan 2008 10:14:16 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from candyshop999@gmail.com) Received: from hs-out-2122.google.com (hs-out-0708.google.com [64.233.178.243]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9F8F213C457 for ; Tue, 8 Jan 2008 10:14:16 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from candyshop999@gmail.com) Received: by hs-out-2122.google.com with SMTP id h53so374402hsh.11 for ; Tue, 08 Jan 2008 02:14:16 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:received:received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type; bh=QMHUwGjBdlCrbbckOpJUc6i9LJ4yPzc0ub5BJfCUt+I=; b=RR7bKaYgvok3g4cy1AvjPRRtg83K3UKH9yk0mZQL0vm20i3zcmq3hByk5D7yXPK7z5lZWttAQvz3jZbb3DyEz0fU0dRgakQrDmy5mdqQVhXZydhckHdld5T675Cz3i2kKpHcd2OVJFHcqlcUNATAXSyvl2UmBZjqkXRX1kNlpec= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type; b=Wb6SZ9fbXvgfmma2fPsUSDvnFOvIdtUF688JCN4cBxwpS8K1QMGDl6HVWCoyKkdB4K9jnKLUnYJyozgrCDcKmVfLiG35fRvr68XBc5KBw8eNR7FVSLxNzRQIV8oTvhzcxWvOP6BNbFUc/OXsuo/vPX7STsMfBIvN859INtbWjpA= Received: by 10.150.123.16 with SMTP id v16mr205318ybc.76.1199787255392; Tue, 08 Jan 2008 02:14:15 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.150.156.8 with HTTP; Tue, 8 Jan 2008 02:14:15 -0800 (PST) Message-ID: Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2008 12:14:15 +0200 From: "Super Star" To: freebsd-advocacy@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Subject: Five Point Capital, Alcohol Testing Equipment Manufacturer Lifeloc Technologies Announces Innovative New Sequence? Software to Simplify Alcohol Screening for Law Enforcem Wheat Ridge, CO (PRWEB) June 21, 2007 -- Lifeloc Technologies' () new Sequence? software available on its popular FC20 model portable breathalyzer is designed for roadside DUI enforcement, administrative enforcement for underage drinking and other applications that require verified test data. The sophisticated, software-driven system automatically walks an officer through approved testing procedures, helping ensure that the essential steps and proper timing are followed, and all necessary data is automatically recorded in digital memory. Sequence? software was developed in collaboration with police authorities, and is patterned after Lifeloc's highly successful and industry-leading EasyMode? System which has widespread use in the transportation and workplace alcohol testing arenas. The Sequence? software protocol is flexible, made possible by Lifeloc's patented digital software platform. It can be customized at the factory to fit individual agencies' testing requirements, which vary significantly by locality according to state and local regulations. Sequence easily leads officers through an agency's mandated, step-by-step protocol using simple, menu-driven prompts in plain-English, making testing faster, easier and much less prone to procedural errors. Once testing is completed, test details and calibration data are captured in memory within the FC20. No peripheral equipment is required, and the device itself is no larger than a package of cigarettes. Results can be printed directly to a portable printer or downloaded to a computer, either on-scene or later. Other unique FC20 features include electronic calibration reminder and lockout, with Lifeloc's exclusive password protection. This feature allows administrators to control their alcohol testing program and help ensure testing credibility and consistency. For additional information or demonstration, contact alcohol testing equipment manufacturer Lifeloc at 1-800-722-4872; info @ lifeloc.com; or visit About Lifeloc Technologies: For over 20 years, Denver-based alcohol testing equipment manufacturer Lifeloc Technologies () has served the business, law enforcement and corrections communities by providing high-tech alcohol testing devices. Used in over 35 countries, Lifeloc's breath alcohol testing devices are recognized for their ease-of-use, reliability and long life. Lifeloc products have been tested and approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, as well as multiple state forensic laboratories in the U.S. and in many other countries. ### From owner-freebsd-advocacy@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jan 8 12:39:50 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-advocacy@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 32CA916A417 for ; Tue, 8 Jan 2008 12:39:50 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from candyshop999@gmail.com) Received: from hs-out-2122.google.com (hs-out-0708.google.com [64.233.178.248]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 05BA713C4D5 for ; Tue, 8 Jan 2008 12:39:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from candyshop999@gmail.com) Received: by hs-out-2122.google.com with SMTP id h53so417896hsh.11 for ; Tue, 08 Jan 2008 04:39:49 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:received:received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type; bh=uE6jBZ/C7SeM6oTzyChPrhYlwZvIm/lX/kluYzEu/4k=; b=wRaO699VaDCK4DM6Eh8BSQugwiFbIcq9vqnbssRSg5AcjaQsUH1Nq7y2PB8PEyqTsGPVaVZ1oZPyHbOWGPXxAIPYcVAHsOnNYU4JXq++6inoVt8JZYOtN60OGe36b3oFnMUm4i3juQltLmOsbRpTmpxC6ntN7csw9AFJ6x3vR60= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type; b=S+7aZ77rrPinjKWuP3oIJpMQYxBx1hvacpSh/3lWh7VA1AAkmWhXah4dA3gPDYMd34Td0pVNJQ7BWy3humQJjI6ElWbzxOZaK4LtYrW5t+Yee3hyScbBCfvxEY1x7cR/deut34kDHII4ON9UpdEVQyrajcXJ3oeWHBhLJ8okiS8= Received: by 10.150.203.8 with SMTP id a8mr261158ybg.125.1199795989156; Tue, 08 Jan 2008 04:39:49 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.150.156.8 with HTTP; Tue, 8 Jan 2008 04:39:49 -0800 (PST) Message-ID: Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2008 14:39:49 +0200 From: "Super Star" To: freebsd-advocacy@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Subject: Wendy Stevens Nashville, 20 Power Marketing Tips X-BeenThere: freebsd-advocacy@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Evangelism List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 08 Jan 2008 12:39:50 -0000 Wendy Stevens Nashville Tennesee, 20 Power Marketing Tips Wendy Stevens Franklin Tennesee Use these powerful yet simple tips from the national best-seller, "Secrets of Power Marketing: Promote Brand You" - the first guide to personal marketing for non-marketers. Performing in Detroit will the rocking roll legends Rolling Stones start up the 2005 NFL season Thursday September 8 at 8 p.m. Eastern time. The event includes performances at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. by Santana and Green Day, the band that last week cleaned up at the MTV awards, winning 7 awards. Additionally, Maroon 5, Kanye West, Good Charlott= e and Rihanna perform in the Los Angeles Coliseum as part of a free concert. The natinal anthem will be performed by Trisha Yearwood from Gillette Stadium, where the event will be hosted by Freddie Prinze Jr. * *Outside the Los Angeles Coliseum twenty-four former NFL players, including Super Bowl XVIII MVP Marcus Allen and Pro Football Hall of Famers, will tak= e part as will the USC marching band. Segments of the event will be aired liv= e on "NFL Opening Kickoff" from 8-9 p.m. ET on ABC, leading into the season opener at Gillette Stadium between the New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders. * *Now we're ready for action! In six of the last Super Bowls, the team that lost the toss went on to win the game. The Patriots lost the coin toss in the last two Super Bowls and won the game. Interesting facts for us that enjoy betting, however nothing comes easy. The season is just to start. * *Obviously it's hard to win consecutive Super Bowls nowadays, but New England made it all look easy. With solid defence in the first half, then setting off on offence in the second half, they are Super Bowl XXXIX champions with the count of 24-21 victory against the Eagles. Earning three championships in four years makes New England rule the NFL. * *Everything can happen during the upcoming NFL football season 2005.
