If so how? And who (they deserve congratulations!!)? If I remember correctly I managed to get my AS2100 4/233 going with 4.3 a couple of years ago, by compiling the kernel and base system on another machine and building a hard drive to place in the machine but never got it to run with SMP (had to remove the extra CPU boards and most devices)... Scott Nb. Back again after a long absence (playing with OVMS and Tru64 :), I am just finishing off restoring an AlphaServer 2100A RM 4/275 with 4 CPUs (in a beautiful beige Digital rack cabinet :), I also found 2 x BA370 28 drive DEC storage arrays with HSZ70 controllers in blue DEC cabinets that I would like to add to the system when I can find the cables. What does one do with antique Alphas? Warms the home/lab of course! Also had a GS80e but couldn't afford the power bill :(. I did a fresh install of 6.3-RELEASE using 6.3-RELEASE-alpha-disc1.iso. Then I installed XFree86-4-Server using the ports. After that I invoked /usr/local/bin/X, and then the same occurs: the alpha machine was rebooted... If so how? AS2100a is about the least well tested Alpha as far as FreeBSD is concerned. Andrew (gallatin@) does not even want to be reminded of the work he did to get 2100 and 2100a supported. It also made a difference if you had a EV4 or a EV5 CPU installed. At some time in the dim past it sort-of worked but that was really it. I'm afraid you are basically on your own trying to get it working. Noone in the committer community that I know of still has a machine like this available. The ones we had at work and which I used in the dim dark past to test my release builds on have long ago been scrapped. Sorry ... It turned out to be due to bad RAM. Replacing all 4 DIMMs with matched sticks solved the problem beautifully. Using the xorg vesa driver also worked. -Nathan Kazuyoshi Furutaka wrote: > Hi all, > > From: John Baldwin > Subject: Re: Current problem reports assigned to freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.org > Date: Fri, 7 Mar 2008 08:19:58 -0500 > >> There weren't any pre-built packages for Alpha for 6.3, you will >> need to build >> X from ports. > > I did a fresh install of 6.3-RELEASE using > 6.3-RELEASE-alpha-disc1.iso. > Then I installed XFree86-4-Server using the ports. > After that I invoked /usr/local/bin/X, and then the > same occurs: the alpha machine was rebooted... > > Kazuyoshi > -- > Kazuyoshi Furutaka > furutaka@jb3.so-net.ne.jp > _______________________________________________ > freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-alpha > To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-alpha-unsubscribe@freebsd.org"
