We should have this file pull in only the most recent 2 years worth of events (configurable in some .xsl file) and then have a second target to create an events-archive.html file with all of the historical events still listed, and add a link at the bottom of events.html to events-archive.html. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: It would probably take me at least an hour to sort through the xslt that builds the events file with all its localization concerns and update it to have this functionality. These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. r - repocopy The resolution of the problem report is dependent on a repocopy operation within the CVS repository which is awaiting completion. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. Please take a look and let me know if you notice any problems : http://www.freebsd.org/news/rss.xml The w3c feed validator likes this, and it looks better in Google Reader and allows one to read the full articles in the feed aggregator, not just the titles. I'll add its last recommendation to include a self-referential atom:link self tag so that it is self-contained. If this looks good I can also update the other feeds (e.g. security advisories) to use RSS 2.0instead of RDF/RSS 0.9. The old feed will continue to exist at its same location so nothing will break for users that rely on it, I've just added a new feed and want to link to it as the default. - Murray From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jan 8 07:12:21 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 087C716A419 for ; Tue, 8 Jan 2008 07:12:21 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from dougb@FreeBSD.org) Received: from mail2.fluidhosting.com (mx21.fluidhosting.com [204.14.89.4]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id A39F613C448 for ; Tue, 8 Jan 2008 07:12:20 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from dougb@FreeBSD.org) Received: (qmail 6033 invoked by uid 399); 8 Jan 2008 07:12:20 -0000 Received: from localhost (HELO lap.dougb.net) (dougb@dougbarton.us@127.0.0.1) by localhost with ESMTP; 8 Jan 2008 07:12:20 -0000 X-Originating-IP: 127.0.0.1 Message-ID: <47832253.6080309@FreeBSD.org> Date: Mon, 07 Jan 2008 23:12:19 -0800 From: Doug Barton Organization: http://www.FreeBSD.org/ User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.9 (X11/20071119) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Murray Stokely References: <2a7894eb0801070814k41194483r13cbb19981f9ba8@mail.gmail.com> In-Reply-To: <2a7894eb0801070814k41194483r13cbb19981f9ba8@mail.gmail.com> X-Enigmail-Version: 0.95.5 OpenPGP: id=D5B2F0FB Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: Please test new RSS 2.0 news feed X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 08 Jan 2008 07:12:21 -0000 Murray Stokely wrote: > I'd like to change the default feed links from the current RDF/RSS 0.9 ( > news.rdf) to a new RSS 2.0 feed I added support for last night. To replace FreeBSD's standard syslogd (/usr/sbin/syslogd), complete these steps: 1. Create a configuration file named /usr/local/etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf (a sample named syslog-ng.conf.sample has been included) 2. Configure syslog-ng to start automatically by adding the following to /etc/rc.conf: syslog_ng_enable="YES" 3. Prevent the standard FreeBSD syslogd from starting automatically by adding a line to the end of your /etc/rc.conf file that reads: syslogd_enable="NO" 4. Shut down the standard FreeBSD syslogd: kill `cat /var/run/syslog.pid` 5. However, everything I could find suggests that ALTQ/PF or DUMMYNET/IPFW can be used in conjunction with IPFILTER, provided that one is dedicated to traffic shaping and the other to filtering and NAT. One thing I did notice is that the man page for restore indicates that the -x flags will restore owner, modification time and mode 'if possible'. That said, according to the restore man page, the -r flag was speficially intended to be used to restore and rebuild a file system that has been created with newfs, thus making it a more favourable choice over the -x flag. Assuming this is correct, I've included a minor patch for the FAQ to correct this. Furthermore, the rc.d script explicitly looks in /etc for a lockfile unless gbde_lockdir is explicitly set in /etc/rc.conf. Included is a patch that corrects the article as well as adding notes regarding the fact that GBDE lock files must end in .lock and adding mention of the gbde_lockdir override. With regards to the 'c' partition vs. the 'real' partition, I was able to set this up with the 'c' partition without any error, but since the guide states that the disk output should be used as a guideline I don't think this is too much of a trainsmash. The text is about the > fact that even you are not using a 386 CPU (for example a 486 or a > Pentium) you are still using an i386 architecture. Oh. OK. Then I totally missed that one :-( (sorry) Rereading the footnote with that in mind, I can see the true meaning. But I still do find it a little bit misleading: shouldn't we explicit the fact that we are talking about newer versions of an x86 CPU ? Either by emphasizing the "386" word, or saying something like "even if you are running FreBSD on a newer x86, such as a pentium, this is going to be i386.." Might not a reader with another architecture altogether think, reading the sentence "even if you are not running FreeBSD on an Intel 386 CPU, this is going to be i386", that "i386" should appear even if she is using a sparc, or whatever ? Of course I may very well be the only one to misread that kind of info ;-) (in which case, just ignore my remarks) gregory From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Jan 11 13:30:44 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: doc@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AF00516A419 for ; Fri, 11 Jan 2008 13:30:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from m.amazirh@yahoo.com) Received: from web58609.mail.re3.yahoo.com (web58609.mail.re3.yahoo.com [68.142.236.207]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 5791813C4E3 for ; Fri, 11 Jan 2008 13:30:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from m.amazirh@yahoo.com) Received: (qmail 96540 invoked by uid 60001); 11 Jan 2008 13:04:03 -0000 DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=s1024; d=yahoo.com; h=X-YMail-OSG:Received:Date:From:Subject:To:MIME-Version:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding:Message-ID; b=pt/ZeAewEYXLc+ALlWPAcXlzbZ4QZO5AJvvjb0t8165QuBEpmfaCWBV4mHtuzoVT4FqMpS3sIiNxPR/+MJyWxmQKJOSM/lq2+LLtiXCn35Evr09QC7c2SE6tc69r1zm1r3Xnt0Y28W8yBcOYzofShASh3N71nVWrQvv/QB0S3Hs=; X-YMail-OSG: CRSXcu0VM1l5sQRzLS9mRvcDuCdRyaXRRKziWG.3YFfL37F1axNQC2_ntCvocs.XqqdXUuqmnuR4Se39fTdoMDKkNUhJvLLhgl6Ixid8au_WuQF4uWauPPk1D5Fr Received: from [41.250.86.169] by web58609.mail.re3.yahoo.com via HTTP; Fri, 11 Jan 2008 05:04:03 PST Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2008 05:04:03 -0800 (PST) From: Mohamed AMAZIRH To: doc@FreeBSD.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Message-ID: <150055.95683.qm@web58609.mail.re3.yahoo.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Cc: Subject: Supported processors and EM64T X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2008 13:30:44 -0000 Hi! I'm writing about aome information availaible in this place : http://www.freebsd.org/releases/6.2R/hardware-amd64.html#PROC The documentation says that pentium 4 "marked as 5xx numbers do not support EM64T", but I have a P4 541 that support EM64T and wikipedia says that all 5x1 support EM64T. What I want to know is that if install FreeBSD 6.2 on my 541, will it have 64bit mode enabled? Thank you in advance --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? If it were me I would say something like, "The i386 architecture covers several processor families, including ...." and list the most relevant elements. Then go on to describe the other architectures and what they cover. hope this helps, Doug -- This .signature sanitized for your protection From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jan 12 12:03:00 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: doc@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7988B16A4C6 for ; Sat, 12 Jan 2008 12:03:00 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from vazhnov@inbox.ru) Received: from mx28.mail.ru (mx28.mail.ru [194.67.23.67]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 25D3B13C442 for ; Sat, 12 Jan 2008 12:02:59 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from vazhnov@inbox.ru) Received: from mx39.mail.ru (mx39.mail.ru [194.67.23.35]) by mx28.mail.ru (mPOP.Fallback_MX) with ESMTP id 4E19B57346A for ; Sat, 12 Jan 2008 14:27:29 +0300 (MSK) Received: from [83.174.243.13] (port=38249 helo=[10.1.1.3]) by mx39.mail.ru with asmtp id 1JDeWN-000JjL-00 for doc@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 12 Jan 2008 14:27:27 +0300 Date: Sat, 12 Jan 2008 16:23:56 +0500 From: Vazhnov Alexey X-Mailer: Voyager (v3.72.03) Professional X-Priority: 3 (Normal) Message-ID: <1034556199.20080112162356@inbox.ru> To: doc@FreeBSD.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=windows-1251 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Cc: Subject: Question about UFS (russian) X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Vazhnov Alexey List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 12 Jan 2008 12:03:00 -0000 Hello! Sorry for my English, if you can't read next test, pleas tell me and I try translate to English. In FAQ http://www.freebsd.org/doc/ru_RU.KOI8-R/books/faq/disks.html "9.26. Server1# fdisk ad4 ******* Working on device /dev/ad4 ******* parameters extracted from in-core disklabel are: cylinders=620181 heads=16 sectors/track=63 (1008 blks/cyl) Figures below won't work with BIOS for partitions not in cyl 1 parameters to be used for BIOS calculations are: cylinders=620181 heads=16 sectors/track=63 (1008 blks/cyl) Media sector size is 512 Warning: BIOS sector numbering starts with sector 1 Information from DOS bootblock is: The data for partition 1 is: sysid 165 (0xa5),(FreeBSD/NetBSD/386BSD) start 63, size 625142385 (305245 Meg), flag 80 (active) beg: cyl 0/ head 1/ sector 1; end: cyl 660/ head 15/ sector 63 The data for partition 2 is: The data for partition 3 is: The data for partition 4 is: Server1# bsdlabel ad4s1 # /dev/ad4s1: 8 partitions: # size offset fstype [fsize bsize bps/cpg] a: 625142369 16 4.2BSD 2048 16384 28552 c: 625142385 0 unused 0 0 # "raw" part, don't edit Server1# tunefs -p /dev/ad4s1a tunefs: ACLs: (-a) disabled tunefs: MAC multilabel: (-l) disabled tunefs: soft updates: (-n) disabled tunefs: maximum blocks per file in a cylinder group: (-e) 2048 tunefs: average file size: (-f) 3000000 tunefs: average number of files in a directory: (-s) 64 tunefs: minimum percentage of free space: (-m) 0% tunefs: optimization preference: (-o) space tunefs: volume label: (-L) ST3201 Server1# df -h /dev/ad4s1a Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on /dev/ad4s1a 289G 289G 13M 100% /ST3201 Server1# df /dev/ad4s1a Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on /dev/ad4s1a 302732038 302719006 13032 100% /ST3201 -- С уважением, Алексей Важнов 8-962-526-3221 (34791)6-48-78 ICQ 224-142-198 mailto:vazhnov@inbox.ru From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jan 12 13:30:02 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 34C9F16A41A for ; Sat, 12 Jan 2008 13:30:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 04D1813C468 for ; Sat, 12 Jan 2008 13:30:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.2/8.14.2) with ESMTP id m0CDU1gT090738 for ; Sat, 12 Jan 2008 13:30:01 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.2/8.14.1/Submit) id m0CDU1FB090736; Sat, 12 Jan 2008 13:30:01 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Sat, 12 Jan 2008 13:30:01 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <200801121330.m0CDU1FB090736@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Marc Silver Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B23A116A417 for ; Sat, 12 Jan 2008 13:21:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (www.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::21]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 91E3313C469 for ; Sat, 12 Jan 2008 13:21:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by www.freebsd.org (8.14.2/8.14.2) with ESMTP id m0CDK4ut040055 for ; Sat, 12 Jan 2008 13:20:04 GMT (envelope-from nobody@www.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by www.freebsd.org (8.14.2/8.14.1/Submit) id m0CDK4xh040054; Sat, 12 Jan 2008 13:20:04 GMT (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <200801121320.m0CDK4xh040054@www.freebsd.org> Date: Sat, 12 Jan 2008 13:20:04 GMT From: Marc Silver To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-3.1 Cc: Subject: docs/119594: Add VMware Fusion to the Virtualization section of the handbook (patch) X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 12 Jan 2008 13:30:02 -0000 >Number: 119594 >Category: docs >Synopsis: Add VMware Fusion to the Virtualization section of the handbook (patch) >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-doc >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: update >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Sat Jan 12 13:30:01 UTC 2008 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Marc Silver >Release: 7.0-RC1 >Organization: >Environment: FreeBSD vmbsd7.int.draenor.org 7.0-RC1 FreeBSD 7.0-RC1 #0: Mon Dec 24 12:18:24 UTC 2007 root@logan.cse.buffalo.edu:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386 >Description: The virtualization section of the handbook currently states that the VMware section is 'yet to be written'.
