In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 5.x/6.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: graphics/gstreamer-plugins-swfdec broken because: Does not compile build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=graphics&portname=gstreamer-plugins-swfdec portname: multimedia/dirac-reference broken because: Incorrect pkg-plist build errors: http://pointyhat.FreeBSD.org/errorlogs/sparc64-errorlogs/e.5.2006121119/dirac-reference-0.6.0_2.log (Dec 28 19:25:05 UTC 2006) overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=multimedia&portname=dirac-reference portname: multimedia/gstreamer-plugins-mpeg2enc broken because: Does not build build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=multimedia&portname=gstreamer-plugins-mpeg2enc If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future. Thanks for your efforts to help improve FreeBSD. I have an acer notebook ACER 5050 with FreeBSD7.0 and everything works. The only problem is that the sound that goes through HDA is low... Using Ekiga, or when playing a video using totem... the volume is too low on the mic or sound output the mixer pcm, volume, are at max... The sound plays at a good volume when I uset sox play with volume 4 (4 times). Question: is there any tunable sysctl in snd_hda that can increase the volume between mixer and the sound chip??? Does your Microphone work out of the box? Mine doesn't but I am running Current AMD64. I have the Turion64X2 processor maybe I should rethink that. 2. Do you have the Atheros 5424/2424 wireless and is it working? Everything else seems to be ok although ACPI does generate a lot of errors. Sorry When I wrote the original, I didn't have my laptop with me. Now =20 that I check it is a different beast. Please excuse the noise. Mine is Aspire 5520-5679 AMD Turion 64x2 NVidia MCP67 High Definition Audio Controller 1. X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 31 Jan 2008 12:26:55 -0000 Hi, On my FreeBSD workstations I frequently use a USB sound device (headphone amplifier). I typically plug it in and out only when I need it, and expect (or hope!) for my system to use it when it's plugged in, but use the onboard sound when it is unplugged. On FreeBSD 7 I used to set hw.snd.default_unit to 1 (from 0) after plugging the device in and then set the mixer levels to how I want them. I've subsequently automated this ala devd and a shell script to do precisely the same thing, except the shell script also calls /etc/rc.d/mixer to restore the saved mixer settings in /var/db. I would like to PR my work in the hope of someone committing it as I think it might be useful to others. What are people's opinions of this idea, in particular setting hw.snd.default_unit to make a newly plugged sound device the default? Can anyone think of a better way to handle newly attached sound hardware? What are people's opinions of this idea, > in particular setting hw.snd.default_unit to make a newly plugged sound > device the default? Can anyone think of a better way to handle newly > attached sound hardware? Not commenting on the fact if this handling itself is ok or not (I =20 have no strong opinion about it), but it should at least be not =20 activated by default. So whatever you submit as a PR should contain =20 something which has a look at rc.conf (and the other config files) and =20 only do something if it is explicitly activated there. It should also =20 be able to not fail if the attached device is the only sound device =20 (so on removal of the only sound device, it should not fall on the =20 nose or spit out a lot of messages). Glad I thought of that then. Already part of what I've written. :) In my implementation I have 'pcm_defaulthot="YES"' in my rc.conf to enable it. > It should also > be able to not fail if the attached device is the only sound device > (so on removal of the only sound device, it should not fall on the > nose or spit out a lot of messages). Otherwise, please, redirect me. Having found http://raaf.atspace.org/dvbusb/ , I managed to buy one of these Freecom 25451-rev.3 DVB-T sticks (USB ID 14aa:0225). All went fine until I did the channel scan in Kaffeine, which crashed Kaffeine. I am on FreeBSD 7.0-RC1 with kaffeine-0.8.6 and all ports up to date. Is the driver supposed to work on that setup? Does anyone have it successfully running? With source set to AUTO, Kaffeine crashes in the middle of the scan after unsuccessfully (?) scanning some frequencies. With source set to de-Hamburg, it crashes immediately. Before Kaffeine crashes, it reports: ioctl DMX_SET_FILTER failed: Device busy Reading SDT: pid=17 The diagnostic dvbusb driver reports: dvbusb_usb_get_packets: Warning discarded 72 unknown bytes pid 8941 (kaffeine), uid 1001: exited on signal 10 (core dumped) Or: dvbusb_usb_get_packets: Warning discarded 180 unknown bytes discontinuity for pid: 17 expected: 2 got: 8 pid 8966 (kaffeine), uid 1001: exited on signal 10 (core dumped) Below are more complete messages from Kaffeine and dmesg. Since i don't feel like debugging it and I'm more a GTK/Gnome user anyway, i stopped using it and wrote my own little DVB app. It's called Typhony, i put it on the website today: http://raaf.atspace.org/dvbusb/index.html#app It doesn't have all the features Kaffeine has, but it's good enough for me. If you prefer to use Kaffeine you can portdowngrade Kaffeine to version 0.8.4 or try to debug it yourself.
