However, I get an odd issue, I doubt it's the driver though if cat (or dd) /dev/cxm and pipe it to ffmpeg, while at the console, it works fine. If I do so from another machine over X, it seems to either send the output to the console and not ffmpeg, or send it to both, either way it destroys my console pretty quickly. Note: I've only tried that from a windows machine with Cygwin's SSH (-YCX options), I'll try from a BSD machine at some point. -Jim Stapleton From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sun May 18 19:43:17 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E3332106564A for ; Sun, 18 May 2008 19:43:17 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from pfgshield-freebsd@yahoo.com) Received: from web32706.mail.mud.yahoo.com (web32706.mail.mud.yahoo.com [68.142.207.250]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 917D78FC17 for ; Sun, 18 May 2008 19:43:17 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from pfgshield-freebsd@yahoo.com) Received: (qmail 69390 invoked by uid 60001); 18 May 2008 19:16:35 -0000 DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=s1024; d=yahoo.com; h=X-YMail-OSG:Received:Date:From:Reply-To:Subject:To:MIME-Version:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding:Message-ID; b=r065dsS89v3TjweIKT+cGTAkF1+PnRAhlQVb82TSyiYntg387NnrFB4JDy5XGb/3atTgBAV0Fr0hbdJ0h83ML7fF4MGMXZ5kRaWpFTTSsXx0a236n4NL0DZ6uI1DUGzDpD1vu6hFAcn5jpjnqULdfGiq1Er7jIzEdQLpfSNrrpU=; X-YMail-OSG: 3vq9QnoVM1luUv3n5_ZOYPMqHrDvWMnLUrRd4wb023l6cEFAFxqaPv3VZ_qqrF4P8Q9XmRXZWXX5r4hBX50r2AN.V6oWKbJNq2adWyYe5Brl0kcD2P6e8KSy.A-- Received: from [190.157.89.56] by web32706.mail.mud.yahoo.com via HTTP; Sun, 18 May 2008 21:16:35 CEST Date: Sun, 18 May 2008 21:16:35 +0200 (CEST) From: To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Message-ID: <681782.69370.qm@web32706.mail.mud.yahoo.com> Subject: Re: pvr-xxx on 7.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: pfgshield-freebsd@yahoo.com List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 18 May 2008 19:43:18 -0000 FWIW; It wouldn't help me since I have a USB PVR, but it would be nice if the brooktree driver worked on amd64. cheers, Pedro. ___________________________________ Scopri il Blog di Yahoo! Was an issue from beyond 0.8.1 afair. Switching to OpenGL helped more or less. Anyway, both 0.8.2 update and gnash-devel are submitted (ports/123708 and ports/123744 respectively), so it's only days before miwi commits them. Enjoy ;) -- Dmitry A. This PCI-X board has 2 FPGA chips and video outputs (2 heads). List price is $1500, the first 100 orders get a $100 discount. There are developer discounts available, so someone writing a BSD device driver, or working on X11 support, etc. could get a board for $700-1000. There is a variety of development work that needs to be done. Profits from the OGD1 board will be used to bootstrap other FLOSS friendly hardware projects (not limited to graphics). If you are tired of undocumented hardware, here is a chance to do something about it. In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 5.x/6.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: audio/gstreamer-plugins-spc broken because: does not compile build errors: http://pointyhat.freebsd.org/errorlogs/i386-errorlogs/e.6.2008050122/gstreamer-plugins-spc-0.10.7_2,3.log ( ) overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=gstreamer-plugins-spc portname: graphics/gstreamer-plugins-swfdec broken because: Does not compile build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=graphics&portname=gstreamer-plugins-swfdec portname: multimedia/dirac-reference broken because: Incorrect pkg-plist build errors: http://pointyhat.FreeBSD.org/errorlogs/sparc64-errorlogs/e.5.2006121119/dirac-reference-0.6.0_2.log (Dec 28 19:25:05 UTC 2006) overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=multimedia&portname=dirac-reference portname: multimedia/mjpegtools-yuvfilters broken because: Does not compile build errors: http://pointyhat.FreeBSD.org/errorlogs/sparc64-errorlogs/e.6.2008021817/mjpegtools-yuvfilters-1.1_4.log (Mar 5 04:11:36 UTC 2008) overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=multimedia&portname=mjpegtools-yuvfilters portname: multimedia/y4mscaler broken because: Does not compile build errors: http://pointyhat.FreeBSD.org/errorlogs/sparc64-errorlogs/e.6.2008021817/y4mscaler-9.0_2.log (Mar 5 04:11:47 UTC 2008) overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=multimedia&portname=y4mscaler If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. Or, do I need to open up my PC and switch out the card when I travel to Europe/USSR/USA/Japan/... Please post your success and failure stories about TV-Tuner cards here! While we're at it, has anyone been able to get any of the USB TV tuners working with FreeBSD? ------------------ I'll go first with a failure story. I bought a Zogis "Real Angel 220 PCI Analog TV Tuner" http://www.zogis.com/main_products_series_tv_tuner_PCI_RA220.htm The box claims it supports PAL-BG/DK/I/M/N, NTSC, SECAM However, I peeled-back the sticker covering the TV-tuner canister on the board and discovered the part number "TNF 5535-MF" which appears to be an NTSC-only part. Using KBTV ( http://freebsd.ricin.com/kbtv/ ) the composite input works OK. However when I connect an antenna and attempt a channel scan -- the program hangs. It likely gives the same result, because this tuner is unknown to me but kbtv2 is what you should test against (kbtv1 is not developed anymore). Try MK3 tuner. It is also great to learn that Luigi also make a port multimedia/linux-gspca-kmod, and it uses gspcav1 version 20071220. Re. other applications, one thing to remember is that the freebsd port of gspca does not support mmap, which seems to be the preferred access method for Linux apps. So you need to rewrite a small piece of the client using read() to a locally allocated buffer to access the video. A patch of this kind for linphone is at http://info.iet.unipi.it/~luigi/patch-msv4l.c see if you can do something similar with your program. cheers luigi From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Fri May 23 15:22:45 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C21E6106568F; Fri, 23 May 2008 15:22:45 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from freebsd@sopwith.solgatos.com) Received: from parsely.rain.com (parsely.rain.com [199.26.172.196]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0B3158FC27; Fri, 23 May 2008 15:22:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from freebsd@sopwith.solgatos.com) Received: from sopwith.solgatos.com (uucp@localhost) by parsely.rain.com (8.11.4/8.11.4) with UUCP id m4NFMge97299; Fri, 23 May 2008 08:22:42 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from freebsd@sopwith.solgatos.com) Received: from localhost by sopwith.solgatos.com (8.8.8/6.24) id PAA10055; Fri, 23 May 2008 15:15:53 GMT Message-Id: <200805231515.PAA10055@sopwith.solgatos.com> To: Rick Nekus In-reply-to: Your message of "Fri, 23 May 2008 07:43:01 -0000." According to the FAQ, While most graphics cards now fit in PCI Express slots, PCI is more popular with users of FPGA kits. We have identified the parts necessary to support PCI Express, so if there is demand, we can build them. In the mean time, we need to sell the PCI version OGD1 to bootstrap our efforts. PCI-X is backward compatible with your 32-bit 33MHz PCI slots, and OGD1 has been tested with several PC motherboards. Note that some PC motherboards may position components so that they interfere with the "extended" part of the PCI card edge for some slots. OGD1 is 6.875in long and 4.2in wide (17.46cm x 10.67cm). Some small form-factor systems do not provide enough room in one or both dimensions. There is a development advantage to PCI. PCI is a bus, so it is easy to sniff the bus if things aren't working. There has been some discussion about writing software to turn the OGD1 into a PCI bus sniffer, for developing other boards. If you are interested in buying a PCIe version of OGD1, OGP needs to hear about it. Note, our code is at a very initial stage, though it is very simple so i don't expect it will be hard to fix any bugs. As for mozplugger (i.e. the pre-existing application that does a similar thing), i have to say that it has some nice features that I am really envious about :) e.g. it can swallow generic X windows within the browser, which is interesting because some apps do not have an option to run in an externally-supplied window. cheers luigi From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Fri May 23 15:59:32 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5FFBC1065672; Fri, 23 May 2008 15:59:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jdc@parodius.com) Received: from mx01.sc1.parodius.com (mx01.sc1.parodius.com [72.20.106.3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 457C48FC1C; Fri, 23 May 2008 15:59:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jdc@parodius.com) Received: by mx01.sc1.parodius.com (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 309DD1CC033; Fri, 23 May 2008 08:39:37 -0700 (PDT) Date: Fri, 23 May 2008 08:39:37 -0700 From: Jeremy Chadwick To: Dieter Message-ID: <20080523153937.GA40374@eos.sc1.parodius.com> References: <200805231515.PAA10055@sopwith.solgatos.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <200805231515.PAA10055@sopwith.solgatos.com> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.17 (2007-11-01) Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org, freebsd-drivers@freebsd.org, freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Open Graphics Project is now taking pre-orders X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 23 May 2008 15:59:32 -0000 On Fri, May 23, 2008 at 08:15:53AM +0100, Dieter wrote: > > I'm just curious here, but why PCI-X, why not PCI-EXpress ? > > or is this obviously for development reasons. > > According to the FAQ, > > While most graphics cards now fit in PCI Express slots, > PCI is more popular with users of FPGA kits. I think what people (not just here, but folks on Slashdot as well) want to know is: is the PCI-X choice *purely* for development reasons, e.g. will the retail/non-development version (read: transistor-based, no FPGA) of the card be PCIe? If the manufacturer plans on keeping everything PCI-X -- dev cards and commercial/retail cards -- they are making a *huge* mistake. -- | Jeremy Chadwick jdc at parodius.com | | Parodius Networking http://www.parodius.com/ | | UNIX Systems Administrator Mountain View, CA, USA | | Making life hard for others since 1977. The plan, as I understand it, is: Develop GPU logic using OGD1 boards. Sell as many OGD1 boards as possible to raise money needed (estimated at US$2M) to fabricate ASIC. Probably do other FLOSS friendly hardware projects to raise money for ASIC. (Ideas welcome) Build OGC boards with ASIC, no FPGA. The ASICs are expected to sell in *much* larger quantities than the FPGA boards. I'm 99.9% sure that the ASIC based OGC boards will be available as PCIe. Possibly PCI or PCI-X and AGP as well, and the bare ASIC chips will be available for embedded applications (PDAs, kiosks, etc.). The big hurdle is raising the US$2M needed to fab the ASIC. This is answered on their website. The reason they chose PCI-X was that they can slap a PCIe to PCI-X bridge on it without having to choose new FPGAs and respin the boards (which would delay things even more) http://wiki.opengraphics.org/tiki-index.php?page=OGPN20#PCIe (amongst many others) http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awiki.opengraphics.org+pcie Regards, Gary P.S. isn't this thread violating the crossposting rules? They might be a little 'too mature'. I've heard that Brooktree parts can no longer be obtained in large quantities and are being phased out (can anyone else confirm?) This maybe a concern for FreeBSD and Linux TV since so many cards depend on the Brooktree (bktr) video capture driver. Conexant is the remnants of what was Brooktree. On 29 April 2008, Conexant's Broadband Media Processing unit, was acquired by NXP Semiconductors (a Philips company). ------------------------------------------------------ --- Danny Pansters [ Fri, 23 May 2008 01:17:04 +0200 ] > Can you try kbtv2 (http://freebsd.ricin.com/kbtv2)? > It likely gives the same result, because this > tuner is > unknown to me but kbtv2 is what you should test > against (kbtv1 is not developed anymore). Try MK3 tuner. Hi Danny, I sent you a screen-shot of NTSC composite input to KBTV2 in a separate email. Looks great. No luck on the tuner though. I expect it'll take some work to get it to work correctly. ------------------------------------------------------ My task is to put together a system that can ship world-wide, be able to display any TV signal, and have all the capabilites that FreeBSD can provide (internet, graphics, games). Potential applications are huge. For example, running JAVA the system could be used to build a low-cost Cable (OCAP in the US or DVB in Europe) or satellite (DirecTV, DISH, etc) Set-top box. We just need to find which of these manufacturers can deliver a robust "Combo / Hybrid" tuner under FreeBSD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_tuner#Manufacturers From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sat May 24 01:05:29 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C0ED01065674 for ; Sat, 24 May 2008 01:05:29 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from pfgshield-freebsd@yahoo.com) Received: from web32704.mail.mud.yahoo.com (web32704.mail.mud.yahoo.com [68.142.207.248]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 7301A8FC12 for ; Sat, 24 May 2008 01:05:28 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from pfgshield-freebsd@yahoo.com) Received: (qmail 15925 invoked by uid 60001); 24 May 2008 01:05:28 -0000 DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=s1024; d=yahoo.com; h=X-YMail-OSG:Received:Date:From:Reply-To:Subject:To:MIME-Version:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding:Message-ID; b=jt3qaISh7k9eutSZw23k3kMjcZk+CQ3fS6UIYMX0EetvNdhjSZ9tUNYGsZAr7U9rpYthO7MrpYmQL1iP361tpk08N56Z4aA3MWDVabKzz6DhfFinx0CY6LSBe1azpxIqpc1aPVLCQlOb2/ADTbEcgWUo34gd6++aDzfNO6NJVWE=; X-YMail-OSG: k_MM1mUVM1nKnWBXsED2v3NCgfg4hLzWiU8_5Z6Wg0Y7fTg_0kLQViXsWseoSm.7Z9cOcUY8orDM1MKJOUq7141H9.Vs_swVFm72TnJLwBW8ND7x2ZNjMtKp4w-- Received: from [190.157.201.81] by web32704.mail.mud.yahoo.com via HTTP; Sat, 24 May 2008 03:05:28 CEST Date: Sat, 24 May 2008 03:05:28 +0200 (CEST) From: To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Message-ID: <473579.14355.qm@web32704.mail.mud.yahoo.com> Subject: bktr device on amd64 (was Re: pvr-xxx on 7.0) X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: pfgshield-freebsd@yahoo.com List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 24 May 2008 01:05:29 -0000 Danny Pansters is right, even when it isn't built by default the bktr driver builds and (apparently) works on amd64: Should I submit a PR? ______ kakumen# kldload bktr kakumen# kldstat Id Refs Address Size Name 1 6 0xffffffff80100000 5f79f8 kernel 2 1 0xffffffff806f8000 7120 if_tap.ko 3 1 0xffffffff80700000 1a2c8 snd_hda.ko 4 2 0xffffffff8071b000 34e48 sound.ko 5 1 0xffffffffb505f000 f207 bktr.ko 6 1 0xffffffffb506f000 6b0 bktr_mem.ko kakumen# uname -a FreeBSD kakumen.cable.net.co 6.3-RELEASE FreeBSD 6.3-RELEASE #10: Sat Jan 19 01:13:55 COT 2008 root@kakumen.cable.net.co:/usr/src/sys/amd64/compile/SMP amd64 --- pfgshield-freebsd@yahoo.com ha scritto: > FWIW; > > It wouldn't help me since I have a USB PVR, but it would be nice if the > brooktree driver worked on amd64. > > cheers, > > Pedro. > > > ___________________________________ > Scopri il Blog di Yahoo! Been trying to get 4Front's OSS to use the softoss driver instead of the default for my soundcard (es137x), but have been unable to find any documentation. Does anyone know how to configure /etc/oss.conf to do this? Thanks! -- When we talk to God, it's prayer.
