Specifically CP008272.scexe from the HP website (http://tinyurl.com/5ppo98) would seem to do the job. My question is whether this will work on a freebsd 7.0 system with linux compatibility enabled and will not damage the array, and if not what other options are there for getting a usable upgrade. I hope to hear back from other list subscribers who have experience with this problem. Thanks, -- Barry Friedman Emax Computer Systems Inc., 480 Tweedsmuir Ave., Ottawa, Ont. We have never had problems with the upgrade system, except for one Windows 2000 machine which keeps hanging now. But I blame the software running on it for it (It's the Cisco Call Manager, which does do strange things to the system). The other two machines with the same software kept working fine. The other 40+ machines are fine all the time. The other 40+ machines are > fine all the time. I have also build, but need to update it again, a small linux pxe bootable image based on RHEL4, where I can run many of the linux based .scexe flash upgrades. RIP (http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-robotti/looplinux/rip/) which is based on debian I think, might be able to do the Bios and SmartArray upgrades but not the iLO upgrades as the last time I checked those it wanted hprsm to be running. -- Regards, Ulf. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Ulf Zimmermann, 1525 Pacific Ave., Alameda, CA-94501, #: 510-865-0204 You can find my resume at: http://www.Alameda.net/~ulf/resume.html From owner-freebsd-proliant@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Apr 8 00:08:44 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-proliant@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 40060106564A for ; Tue, 8 Apr 2008 00:08:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from friedman@www1.emax.ca) Received: from www1.emax.ca (www1.emax.ca [69.13.248.199]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E5BF48FC1E for ; Tue, 8 Apr 2008 00:08:43 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from friedman@www1.emax.ca) Received: from www1.emax.ca (www1.emax.ca [69.13.248.199]) by www1.emax.ca (8.12.11/8.12.9) with ESMTP id m3808gnm012261; Mon, 7 Apr 2008 20:08:42 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from friedman@www1.emax.ca) Received: (from friedman@localhost) by www1.emax.ca (8.12.11/8.12.9/Submit) id m3808fa0012260; Mon, 7 Apr 2008 20:08:41 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from friedman) Date: Mon, 7 Apr 2008 20:08:41 -0400 From: Barry Friedman To: Ulf Zimmermann Message-ID: <20080408000841.GA97525@emax.ca> References: <20080407154713.GA94748@emax.ca> <20080407160505.GX26105@evil.alameda.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20080407160505.GX26105@evil.alameda.net> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i X-Scanned-By: MIMEDefang 2.42 Cc: freebsd-proliant@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Updating Smart Array 6404 X-BeenThere: freebsd-proliant@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: bfriedman@emax.ca List-Id: "Technical discussion of FreeBSD on HP ProLiant server platforms." Here is the official list of supported hardware on our FreeBSD release: [1]http://www.freebsd.org/releases/4.10R/hardware-i386.html At this point it is so urgent that I do not care about RAID 1 any more. I just need the most powerful server that will be compatible with FreeBSD 4. Bellow is the link to a quick guide for software install and test page. [2]http://www.switzernet.com/public/080404-freebsd4-quick-install/ here are the minimum requirements: 1. 2x 300GB Hard Drive (500GB SATA desired but not required, can take SCSI) 2. 4GB memory (additional 2GB desired but not required) 3. RAID 1 (very desired but not required) 4. rack mount kit must be included these 2 configurations are what we think might work, but i don't care, I can take anything else. We are at 7.0 currently. 4.10 is obsolete and unsupported. As someone pointed out, you may want to install the amd64 version on a 4GB system. Niek
