If the events are added in a systematic way with the same title as they are entered in events.xml this is not an issue. In the future I think we should just focus on having a script automatically add the events to upcoming rather than making a manual fix for this one entry where the upcoming title is different from the events.xml title. - Murray On Sun, Jun 15, 2008 at 5:25 AM, Rodrigo OSORIO wrote: > >>Number: 124611 >>Category: www >>Synopsis: wrong upcoming event link in the news >>Confidential: no >>Severity: non-critical >>Priority: low >>Responsible: freebsd-www >>State: open >>Quarter: >>Keywords: >>Date-Required: >>Class: sw-bug >>Submitter-Id: current-users >>Arrival-Date: Sun Jun 15 12:30:10 UTC 2008 >>Closed-Date: >>Last-Modified: >>Originator: Rodrigo OSORIO >>Release: >>Organization: > fug-fr >>Environment: >>Description: > In the FreeBSD events[1] registred in the website as "9th Libre Software Meeting", a yahoo upcoming event link was added, but it uses a wrong keyword. > > The current link is : http://upcoming.yahoo.com/search?type=Events&q=9th%20Libre%20Software%20Meeting&Search=GO > > But it must be: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/search/?type=Events&q=rmll&rt=1&loc=&Search=GO > > > > > > > > > > > > > > [1] http://www.freebsd.org/events/#event:3 >>How-To-Repeat: > >>Fix: > > >>Release-Note: >>Audit-Trail: >>Unformatted: > _______________________________________________ > freebsd-www@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-www > To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-www-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" > From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jun 16 18:23:02 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 441B3106564A; Mon, 16 Jun 2008 18:23:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from murray@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 196AB8FC15; Mon, 16 Jun 2008 18:22:57 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from murray@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (murray@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.2/8.14.2) with ESMTP id m5GIMu7v011588; Mon, 16 Jun 2008 18:22:56 GMT (envelope-from murray@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from murray@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.2/8.14.1/Submit) id m5GIMuV7011584; Mon, 16 Jun 2008 18:22:56 GMT (envelope-from murray) Date: Mon, 16 Jun 2008 18:22:56 GMT Message-Id: <200806161822.m5GIMuV7011584@freefall.freebsd.org> To: murray@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-www@FreeBSD.org, murray@FreeBSD.org From: murray@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: www/124611: wrong upcoming event link in the news X-BeenThere: freebsd-www@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Project Webmasters List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 16 Jun 2008 18:23:02 -0000 Synopsis: wrong upcoming event link in the news Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-www->murray Responsible-Changed-By: murray Responsible-Changed-When: Mon Jun 16 18:21:43 UTC 2008 Responsible-Changed-Why: Maybe we can add an optional tag for each event in events.xml, and when it exists, use that in the upcoming url. It seems that things have gone OK, but: The moinmoin people changed some of the markup... (no comments on that in public forums...) so there are some differences. Hopefully they are minor, but there is not really anything to be done about that. The positive part is that the changes I have seen make the markup more similar to mediawiki (used on wikipedia) so perhaps that will make it simpler for users of other wiki's. Please let me know of any problems. Known issues are and will be documented on http://wiki.freebsd.org/AboutWiki . I need to make a few more adjustments to the wiki so there will be minor disruptions in the coming days, but hopefully that should not be noticeable. Yes, I noticed that as well but I never found out what the point of doing links like that was in the first place :-). For the front page this was the "fix": http://wiki.freebsd.org/FrontPage?action=diff&rev2=173&rev1=172 I will look at this more tomorrow evening to find out if this is just how things are, or if it's a bug. -- Simon L. I'm responsible for a MoinMoin server myself, so I know it's not necessarily trivial to maintain, especially when you've customized a lot of things. (Having said that, I *do* like MoinMoin and would recommend it anytime.) Simon L. I notice the following: "You triggered the wiki's surge protection by doing too many requests in a short time. Please make a short break reading the stuff you already got." I certainly haven't done too many requests -- this is the first time I try to look at the wiki in weeks. In case it helps to track the problem down: My requests come via a Squid proxy on address 88.217.63.27. I am the only person using that proxy. The IP address is dynamic, but I have this one since May 1st (last redial) so I'm pretty sure nobody else was using this address recently. It was converted during the upgrade, but in a few places it failed. E.g. see the upgrade change done automatically: http://wiki.freebsd.org/FrontPage?action=diff&rev2=172&rev1=171 and the small fixup I had to do: http://wiki.freebsd.org/FrontPage?action=diff&rev2=173&rev1=172 > One very annoying "feature" of moinmoin, btw, is that it does not > understand nested markup, e.g. monospace or italic in a section title. > Do you know if they've fixed this, or intend to fix it in a later > version? Unfortunatly I have no idea. I actually don't use the wiki much myself so, except when things break, I don't look too much at it as I personally much prefer emacs + XML/HTML + cvs/hg + make + xslt for writing web pages :-). An overview of changes can be found at http://moinmo.in/MoinMoinRelease1.6 - but the detailed list is LONG so I have not read that list more closely. It should be noted that I certainly know that moinmoin is not perfect, and given a choice I would probably pick another wiki, but at this point I don't think the pain of switching is worth the trouble. -- Simon L. Yes, that is one interesting "feature" of moinmoin which I couldn't cleanly disable in 1.5 (I haven't tried yet for 1.6). The problem is that the wiki is running behind a reverse proxy so it thinks all requests come from the same IP and triggers the surge protection quite often. The "fix" I applied for 1.5 was to delete the surge-log file every minute (not pretty but it works), but they moved it in 1.6 so the "fix" didn't work anymore. I have changed it so hopefully the problem should be dealt with now. At some point I will see if the option to disable surge protection actually works now... Thanks for the report. -- Simon L. I had always been wondering: why not mediawiki in the first place? moinmoin looks much uglier to me, and that NoYouCannotUseSpacesHere thing is just so lame. Maybe mediawiki is just more insecure or something? ./danfe From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jun 19 19:49:58 2008 Return-Path: <owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG> Delivered-To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C8B46106566B for <freebsd-www@freebsd.org>; Thu, 19 Jun 2008 19:49:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ktdreyer@ktdreyer.com) Received: from yw-out-2324.google.com (yw-out-2324.google.com [74.125.46.28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7F8368FC13 for <freebsd-www@freebsd.org>; Thu, 19 Jun 2008 19:49:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ktdreyer@ktdreyer.com) Received: by yw-out-2324.google.com with SMTP id 9so441137ywe.13 for <freebsd-www@freebsd.org>; Thu, 19 Jun 2008 12:49:52 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.150.54.1 with SMTP id c1mr3653428yba.64.1213903262381; Thu, 19 Jun 2008 12:21:02 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.150.220.20 with HTTP; Thu, 19 Jun 2008 12:21:02 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: <43f35d30806191221r75a241e0h80db863aaa6a1362@mail.gmail.com> Date: Thu, 19 Jun 2008 14:21:02 -0500 From: "Ken Dreyer" <ktdreyer@ktdreyer.com> To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Subject: freebsd website questions X-BeenThere: freebsd-www@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Project Webmasters <freebsd-www.freebsd.org> List-Unsubscribe: <http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-www>, <mailto:freebsd-www-request@freebsd.org?subject=unsubscribe> List-Archive: <http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-www> List-Post: <mailto:freebsd-www@freebsd.org> List-Help: <mailto:freebsd-www-request@freebsd.org?subject=help> List-Subscribe: <http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-www>, <mailto:freebsd-www-request@freebsd.org?subject=subscribe> X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 19 Jun 2008 19:49:58 -0000 Hi FreeBSD www admins, I am a college student assisting the OpenAFS project with redesigning their website. One of the OpenAFS elders mentioned that he liked the layout and functionality of FreeBSD's site. I was hoping you could give me a few pointers :) If you could start from scratch and do things over again, would you prefer to use xml/xslt/Makefiles? Most website software has some sort of web-based content editor, but I suppose this means no more editing with vim/emacs. On the other hand, the current setup seems to limit dynamic interaction, as Murray observed in his blog. How much of an effect does this have on the community? Murray had mentioned that the XML syntax can be raise the barrier to entry for those who aren't web designers. What are some ways around this? Lastly, I see that your community uses your wiki a lot. What are your thoughts about MoinMoin from an infrastructure admin's point of view? I noticed that the Fedora project moved from MoinMoin to Mediawiki recently, and I wondered: if you were able to start from scratch, what wiki software would you use? - Ken From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Jun 20 11:56:58 2008 Return-Path: <owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG> Delivered-To: www@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2600C1065678 for <www@FreeBSD.org>; Fri, 20 Jun 2008 11:56:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from root@a0053.abansys.com) Received: from a0053.abansys.com (a0053.abansys.com [86.109.167.12]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 70A7C8FC13 for <www@FreeBSD.org>; Fri, 20 Jun 2008 11:56:57 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from root@a0053.abansys.com) Received: (qmail 23620 invoked by uid 2526); 20 Jun 2008 13:30:08 +0200 Received: from 127.0.0.1 by a0053.abansys.com (envelope-from <root@a0053.abansys.com>, uid 48) with qmail-scanner-2.01st (clamdscan: 0.88.7/7511. spamassassin: 3.1.7. perlscan: 2.01st.
