I can make patches for STABLE in most cases, but I'm already working with several different repos / code branches, so the quickest best way to get the new bling is going to be on -CURRENT. robert. --=-6VOqu2+CvdSX3eXw87zl Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Description: This is a digitally signed message part -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.9 (FreeBSD) iEYEABECAAYFAkjvn2AACgkQM4TrQ4qfRONQIgCeLKjo4OXf5YtPXxfn/2YpJkir AsIAnRBFaZ5cUVYxTXS8yMP18h5uRUCh =Bhwr -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-6VOqu2+CvdSX3eXw87zl-- From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Oct 13 15:34:45 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2CAD51065697; Mon, 13 Oct 2008 15:34:45 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gary.jennejohn@freenet.de) Received: from mout1.freenet.de (mout1.freenet.de [IPv6:2001:748:100:40::2:3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B6D278FC25; Mon, 13 Oct 2008 15:34:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gary.jennejohn@freenet.de) Received: from [195.4.92.19] (helo=9.mx.freenet.de) by mout1.freenet.de with esmtpa (ID gary.jennejohn@freenet.de) (port 25) (Exim 4.69 #65) id 1KpPRS-0004px-PE; Mon, 13 Oct 2008 17:34:42 +0200 Received: from mad62.m.pppool.de ([89.49.173.98]:46559 helo=ernst.jennejohn.org) by 9.mx.freenet.de with esmtpa (ID gary.jennejohn@freenet.de) (port 25) (Exim 4.69 #65) id 1KpPRS-0000rq-Hx; Mon, 13 Oct 2008 17:34:42 +0200 Date: Mon, 13 Oct 2008 17:34:40 +0200 From: Gary Jennejohn To: Robert Noland Message-ID: <20081013173440.528d1b4e@ernst.jennejohn.org> In-Reply-To: <1223663456.65664.23.camel@squirrel.corp.cox.com> References: <1223134762.1619.32.camel@wombat.2hip.net> <200810101853.57259.matt@chronos.org.uk> <1223663456.65664.23.camel@squirrel.corp.cox.com> X-Mailer: Claws Mail 3.5.0 (GTK+ 2.12.11; amd64-portbld-freebsd8.0) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: freebsd-x11 Subject: Re: drm MSI support X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: gary.jennejohn@freenet.de List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 13 Oct 2008 15:34:45 -0000 On Fri, 10 Oct 2008 14:30:56 -0400 Robert Noland wrote: > On Fri, 2008-10-10 at 18:53 +0100, Matt Dawson wrote: > > Sorry for the delay. It doesn't seem to break anything. Don't forget we're not supposed to be using glxgears or any of the demos as benchmarks - case in point: I can remember getting framerates of 12,000+ in glxgears on a 9000 Pro a while ago on 5.x, which suggests to me that this number is almost meaningless. Sadly, the Unix variant of GLExcess does not include benchmark functionality as does it's Win32 counterpart, so I am unable to extrapolate performance data by running it. Even timing it to completion doesn't help as it doesn't run with the fastest speed possible (it's controllable with the A and Z keys). All I run it for is to ensure that GL doesn't bomb or fall back to software rendering on the range of operations glxs requires. Perhaps I ought to install the linuxulator and slam Doom3 on there to run a timedemo to test this stuff? > > Sorry for the delay. I was actually thinking more long term. All my production boxen are 7-STABLE, albeit with your drm patches added. It seems there's only a couple of us with Radeon kit who are willing/daft enough to mess around with the source, so the more of us with -CURRENT installed, the better chance we have of seeing this stuff MFC'd into releases. That, and the fact that FBSD is a doddle to multi- boot into however many environments you wish to run means there's no excuse not to ;) I'm going to try to get my hands on an R500 soon (probably something low-end like an X1650, although I have seen an X1950Pro going for reasonable money), so I should be able to at least test R200-500 based cards. -- Matt Dawson matt@chronos.org.uk MTD15-RIPE From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Oct 13 17:27:11 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6733F10656A5 for ; Mon, 13 Oct 2008 17:27:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from rnoland@FreeBSD.org) Received: from gizmo.2hip.net (gizmo.2hip.net [64.74.207.195]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3640E8FC12 for ; Mon, 13 Oct 2008 17:27:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from rnoland@FreeBSD.org) Received: from [192.168.166.46] ([68.0.14.34]) (authenticated bits=0) by gizmo.2hip.net (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id m9DHQwUs004697 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=NO); Mon, 13 Oct 2008 13:26:59 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from rnoland@FreeBSD.org) From: Robert Noland To: Matt Dawson In-Reply-To: <200810131801.06785.matt@chronos.org.uk> References: <1223134762.1619.32.camel@wombat.2hip.net> <200810101853.57259.matt@chronos.org.uk> <1223663456.65664.23.camel@squirrel.corp.cox.com> <200810131801.06785.matt@chronos.org.uk> Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="=-/q1/aiCKCXMqO4WDSW8a" Organization: FreeBSD Date: Mon, 13 Oct 2008 13:26:53 -0400 Message-Id: <1223918813.98566.19.camel@squirrel.corp.cox.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Evolution 2.22.3.1 FreeBSD GNOME Team Port X-Spam-Status: No, score=-0.9 required=5.0 tests=AWL,BAYES_00, MIME_QP_LONG_LINE, RCVD_IN_SORBS_DUL, RDNS_NONE autolearn=no version=3.2.5 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.2.5 (2008-06-10) on gizmo.2hip.net Cc: freebsd-x11 Subject: Re: drm MSI support X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 13 Oct 2008 17:27:11 -0000 --=-/q1/aiCKCXMqO4WDSW8a Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On Mon, 2008-10-13 at 18:01 +0100, Matt Dawson wrote: > On Friday 10 October 2008 19:30:56 Robert Noland wrote: > > On Fri, 2008-10-10 at 18:53 +0100, Matt Dawson wrote: > > > On Saturday 04 October 2008 16:39:21 Robert Noland wrote: > > > > When drm loads it will also report that it has enabled MSI. > > > > > > > > Please send me reports of what chips do/don't work. > > > > > > Yep, looking good on an X850XT: > > > > > > drm0: on vgapci0 > > > info: [drm] MSI enabled 1 message(s) > > > info: [drm] Setting GART location based on new memory map > > > info: [drm] Loading R400 Microcode > > > info: [drm] Num pipes: 4 > > > info: [drm] writeback test succeeded in 1 usecs > > > drm0: [ITHREAD] > > > > > > Pre-MSI > > > 8800 FPS in texcyl demo > > > 4800 FPS in glxgears > > > 602 FPS in terrain demo > > > glxs completed OK > > > > > > With MSI > > > 7450 FPS in texcyl demo > > > 4450 FPS in glxgears > > > 598 FPS in terrain demo > > > glxs completed OK > > > > I assume that you are using drm-msi-3.patch? >=20 > The current patch from your people.FreeBSD.org page, this one: > http://people.freebsd.org/~rnoland/drm-msi.patch >=20 > > I'm a little curious why performance seems slightly lower with msi. I think that what we have in HEAD now is ok to MFC, though I have a couple of patches that I'm getting ready to commit that will also be needed, at least once Xorg-7.4 hits the tree. > I'm going to try to get my hands on an R500 soon (probably something low-= end=20 > like an X1650, although I have seen an X1950Pro going for reasonable mone= y),=20 > so I should be able to at least test R200-500 based cards. Great, competent testers are a huge plus. I know one of my other testers is running a x1650 and MSI also seems to be working correctly for him, though I did have to slip him an advance patch of xorg-7.4 to get mesa going. robert. --=-/q1/aiCKCXMqO4WDSW8a Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; I have updated the driver and libdrm to the latest versions: libdrm-2.3.1 Userspace interface to kernel Direct Rendering Module servi xf86-video-intel-2.4.2 Driver for Intel integrated graphics chipsets This is with RELENG_7 from 15/9/08.=20 I'm rebuilding now with the latest RELENG_7, with Robert Noland's DRM patch from http://people.freebsd.org/~rnoland/drm-update-7-100308.patch.bz2 . If this doesn't work, I will be reverting to 7.0 release, which worked perfectly. I cannot have this machine crashing out of X whenever it feels a little shaky. First, please make sure that you have very recent -CURRENT, I made some updates to the agp handling of g33 chipsets recently. ~600 fps in gears is not that unreasonable (glxgears is not a benchmark), I get about 720 - 800 on my 965gm. The only obvious issue that I see from your logs is that write combining failed, which would have an impact on performance. Once we are sure that you are on the latest code, if there are still issues, we can look into those. It is also plausible that this is an issue with mesa handling the g33, but that would likely show up on linux as well. Our ports will get xorg-7.4 once 7.1 is released, which will update mesa to 7.2 as well. FWIW, even the water plugin is finally working correctly for me with the update. robert. >=20 >=20 > If you =3D don't have time, no worries, I'll survive without 3D > windows :) >=20 >=20 >=20 > -- >=20 > Cordialement, >=20 >=20 >=20 > Pierre BARDOU >=20 > CSIM - Bureau =3D 012 >=20 >=20 >=20 > Midi Pyr=E9n=E9es =3D Informatique Hospitali=E8re >=20 > 12 rue Michel =3D Labrousse >=20 > BP93668 >=20 > F-31036 Toulouse CEDEX =3D 1 >=20 >=20 >=20 > T=E9l : 05 67 31 90 =3D 84 >=20 > Fax : 05 34 61 51 =3D 00 >=20 > Mail : [2]bardou.p@mipih.fr >=20 > References >=20 > 1. 3D"http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=3D10009" > 2. 3D"mailto:bardou.p@mipih.fr" --=-1DyD5xs2nbdnzfOJ9s24 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Description: This is a digitally signed message part -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.9 (FreeBSD) iEYEABECAAYFAkj3W7oACgkQM4TrQ4qfROMq4QCfUG8A/QWvBfolFU8mzKUnD3r4 emkAn1vzO8PMJrE+12mDltCIih9Lnrzk =5wXh -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-1DyD5xs2nbdnzfOJ9s24-- From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 17 12:21:34 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F2122106569F for ; Fri, 17 Oct 2008 12:21:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bardou.p@mipih.fr) Received: from smtp-out.completel.net (smtp2-out.completel.net [83.145.110.36]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4CC3D8FC18 for ; Fri, 17 Oct 2008 12:21:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bardou.p@mipih.fr) Received: from smtp.mipih.fr (ns1.mipih.fr [213.30.131.228]) by smtp-out.completel.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id C6EC3A9408F; Fri, 17 Oct 2008 14:21:30 +0200 (CEST) Received: from smtp.mipih.fr (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by smtp.mipih.fr (messagerie) with ESMTP id D1C7DD231E; Fri, 17 Oct 2008 14:21:27 +0200 (CEST) X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.2.5 (2008-06-10) on v3web.mipih.fr X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-2.9 required=5.5 tests=ALL_TRUSTED,AWL,BAYES_00, UNWANTED_LANGUAGE_BODY autolearn=ham version=3.2.5 Received: from vfront.mipih.net (vfront.mipih.net [10.60.0.235]) by smtp.mipih.fr (messagerie) with ESMTP id A37ADD231D; Fri, 17 Oct 2008 14:21:27 +0200 (CEST) Received: from VMAIL.mipih.net ([10.31.1.48]) by vfront.mipih.net with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.3959); Fri, 17 Oct 2008 14:18:31 +0200 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft Exchange V6.5 Content-class: urn:content-classes:message MIME-Version: 1.0 Date: Fri, 17 Oct 2008 14:18:30 +0200 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=SHA1; boundary="----=_NextPart_000_006E_01C93063.3B3EB270"; protocol="application/x-pkcs7-signature" Message-ID: <7D90CDE85843914CB4DA65D3A421E64901501267@vmail.mipih.net> In-Reply-To: <1224170426.32435.8.camel@squirrel.corp.cox.com> X-MS-Has-Attach: yes X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: Thread-Topic: 3D windows effect makes Xorg crash Thread-Index: AckvomDuSmGPde83TqK7hDuOZFpx2AArtp6A References: <7D90CDE85843914CB4DA65D3A421E6490150125C@vmail.mipih.net> <1224170426.32435.8.camel@squirrel.corp.cox.com> From: "BARDOU Pierre" To: "Robert Noland" X-OriginalArrivalTime: 17 Oct 2008 12:18:31.0074 (UTC) FILETIME=[77B79020:01C93052] X-Virus-Scanned: ClamAV using ClamSMTP X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Cc: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Subject: RE: 3D windows effect makes Xorg crash X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 17 Oct 2008 12:21:35 -0000 This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_006E_01C93063.3B3EB270 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="----=_NextPart_001_006F_01C93063.3B3EB270" ------=_NextPart_001_006F_01C93063.3B3EB270 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hello, I did a make buildworld this morning.
