"It offers three modes (maximum, minimum, and adaptive) that can be individually selected while on AC power or batter-ies. The modes maximum, minimum, adaptive and hiadaptive may be abbrevi-ated max, min, adp, hadp." That's actually four modes. hiadaptive should be mentioned in the first sentence, too. 2. "Hiadaptive mode is alike adaptive mode," Change "alike" to "like". 3. "It rises frequency faster, drops slower and keeps twice lower CPU load." "rises" should be "increases". "keeps twice lower CPU load" is extremely unclear. Is this load being put on the CPU by powerd? Or is it CPU load being monitored by powerd? Lower than what? What does "twice lower" mean? >How-To-Repeat: man 8 powerd >Fix: 1. Fix mode count and list in second sentence: "It offers three modes (maximum, minimum, and adaptive)" should be "It offers four modes (maximum, minimum, adaptive, and hiadaptive)" 2. Change "alike" to "like". 3. Rewrite the sentence that explains what hiadaptive does so that it is clear and unambiguous. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Mar 29 18:45:46 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7A766106566C for ; Sun, 29 Mar 2009 18:45:46 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from wblock@wonkity.com) Received: from wonkity.com (wonkity.com [67.158.26.137]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 206428FC13 for ; Sun, 29 Mar 2009 18:45:45 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from wblock@wonkity.com) Received: from wonkity.com (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by wonkity.com (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id n2TIUCrw010989; Sun, 29 Mar 2009 12:30:12 -0600 (MDT) (envelope-from wblock@wonkity.com) Received: from localhost (wblock@localhost) by wonkity.com (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) with ESMTP id n2TIUCeb010986; Sun, 29 Mar 2009 12:30:12 -0600 (MDT) (envelope-from wblock@wonkity.com) Date: Sun, 29 Mar 2009 12:30:12 -0600 (MDT) From: User Wblock To: Li In-Reply-To: <20090323094504.GA1350@PC-686.Workstation> Message-ID: References: <20090323094504.GA1350@PC-686.Workstation> User-Agent: Alpine 2.00 (BSF 1167 2008-08-23) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed X-Greylist: Sender IP whitelisted, not delayed by milter-greylist-4.0.1 (wonkity.com [127.0.0.1]); Sun, 29 Mar 2009 12:30:12 -0600 (MDT) Cc: freebsd-doc Subject: Re: Erratra report for X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 29 Mar 2009 18:45:46 -0000 Sorry about the late reply on this, but I did want to go through and compare notes. (this is for notes) You mean put the superscript "1" before the end-of-sentence period? That's a style judgement call; doing it that way would have the period hanging out alone at the end of the line, somewhat visually ugly. Additionally, putting the reference to the footnote after the period implies that the footnote refers to the whole sentence, not just the word preceding the footnote superscript. > vi | Marleen Devos's email is ? | ? Possibly intentional left blank. Does not seem to be a serious omission. > 1 | the communications overhead | the communication's overhead Usage is correct, at least in American English. It's not a possessive; read it as "communications-overhead" if it helps. > 3 | estimated 5500 contributors on the project, but in figure 3-1 and 3-2 the number is -3000 | ? The symbol before the 3000 is a tilde, used to mean "approximately". If you are reading it in some language other than English, a font problem might cause that character to render improperly. > 4 | 12600 ports.1 | 12600 ports1. The diagrams are low-res bitmaps, so they look fine for HTML but aren't great for PDF. It's possible to use bitmaps for HTML and PS/EPS/PDF diagrams for PDF, but it's a hassle. -Warren Block * Rapid City, South Dakota USA From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Mar 30 11:06:06 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 09953106564A for ; Mon, 30 Mar 2009 11:06:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E68A08FC2A for ; Mon, 30 Mar 2009 11:06:05 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id n2UB65i2053793 for ; Mon, 30 Mar 2009 11:06:05 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id n2UB65tn053789 for freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 30 Mar 2009 11:06:05 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Date: Mon, 30 Mar 2009 11:06:05 GMT Message-Id: <200903301106.n2UB65tn053789@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: gnats set sender to owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: FreeBSD doc list Cc: Subject: Current unassigned doc problem reports X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 30 Mar 2009 11:06:06 -0000 (Note: an HTML version of this report is available at http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr-summary.cgi?category=doc .) While it is not exactly at review state yet, here is what I got right now: http://people.freebsd.org/~manolis/firewalls.diff (this is still changing, but comments are welcome nonetheless) and a build is here: http://www.freebsdgr.org/handbook-mine/firewalls.html I originally missed this PR, but I could have a look at the submitted text and integrate it with this patch, if appropriate. I must do an exercise in assembly language. This is the text of the exercise: One of the classic problems of computing the resolution of simple expressions such as, for example: ((10-5)+((8-2)-(3+4))). Indeed, the presence of brackets complicates the resolution forcing the calculation and storage of partial results. The resolution of such expressions is simpler if you write in reverse Polish notation that does not require the use of parentheses. In the case seen above: 10 5 - 8 2 - 3 4 + - + Exercise: write an assembly program that takes input expressions and result in reverse Polish notation. Let's say that the terms do not contain negative numbers and that the only operations are the sum (+) and subtraction (-). Subsequently implement the calculation of the outcome assuming that the numbers and the result (even partial) have at most 2 digits. Tip: The transformation of an expression in reverse Polish notation can be easily implemented using the stack. We must scan the expression from left to right and print (or save) the number that you encounter. When you encounter a transaction that is placed on the stack. Conversely, if you arrive at a closed parenthesis should be taken that the transaction is in the stack and print it. Similarly, the calculation of the result from the reverse Polish notation can be implemented using the stack. Even in this case it is necessary to scan the expression from left to right and put any numbers you find on the stack. When it comes to a transaction should be taking the two numbers at the top of the stack, perform calculations and store the result on the stack. The 7.2R schedule for the doc tree on www.FreeBSD.org will be updated soon. The purpose of the doc slush is to slow down the rate of change in that tree in order to allow the translation teams time to finalize their work and to avoid last-minute breakage for the 7.2-RELEASE. As usual, this is not a real freeze and requires no formal commit approval procedure for your commit, but you are kindly requested not to commit large, structural changes during that period. Tagging of the doc tree is scheduled to take place on 17 April, 2009. Applications should use the pthread API. Hence it seems fairly unimportant to me to have man pages for the the_* syscalls. -- Jilles Tjoelker
