Currently I use the allscreens_flags in rc.conf that only applies the setting at the end of the boot process. I was wondering if there is a option in LINT or a device.hints option that can make this feature possible. I highly recommend this feature. I think the FreeBSD system would be more attractive with the higher video modes during the entire boot process. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Jan 18 15:50:02 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 24048106564A for ; Sun, 18 Jan 2009 15:50:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F32E28FC19 for ; Sun, 18 Jan 2009 15:50:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id n0IFo1i5028858 for ; Sun, 18 Jan 2009 15:50:01 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id n0IFo1Nc028857; Sun, 18 Jan 2009 15:50:01 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Sun, 18 Jan 2009 15:50:01 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <200901181550.n0IFo1Nc028857@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Thomas Schweikle Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9ABFC1065672 for ; Sun, 18 Jan 2009 15:44:43 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (www.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::21]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 886D08FC0C for ; Sun, 18 Jan 2009 15:44:43 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by www.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id n0IFihFB069729 for ; Sun, 18 Jan 2009 15:44:43 GMT (envelope-from nobody@www.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by www.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id n0IFihRu069728; Sun, 18 Jan 2009 15:44:43 GMT (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <200901181544.n0IFihRu069728@www.freebsd.org> Date: Sun, 18 Jan 2009 15:44:43 GMT From: Thomas Schweikle To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-3.1 Cc: Subject: i386/130698: FreeBSD 8-CURRENT does not start any more since Dec. 10th. 2) How big is the file once downloaded? 3) How are you burning it to disk? 4) When do you see the error? During download or during use? 5) Are you sure you have enough disk space? 6) What error do you see? Please note that there are several different ways you can download the ISO images (FTP and Bittorrent), and there are several different FTP mirrors available in each country. Please try a different source and see if that changes anything. See http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-embedded/2009-January/000680.html Not mentioned in this Email, the power button broke as well, flooding error messages to the console instead of shutting down. After the long journey of bisecting 10,000 kernel revisions, I found revision 181771, and only the change in file /sys/dev/pci/pci.c to be the culprit: http://svn.freebsd.org/viewvc/base/stable/7/sys/dev/pci/pci.c?r1=176218&r2=181771 >How-To-Repeat: Build a stable/7 kernel of revision 181771 or later and attempt to boot the machine. It'll start to boot, but won't reach the console login prompt because DHCP fails. Setting up networking manually makes things better, but still it's impossible to ssh in. All this works fine with kernel r181770 or before. >Fix: The obvious one: don't upgrade beyond r181770. I'll try to reverse-apply this patch on stable and look how things work. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted:
