The creation of filesystems will be aborted. I also tried to install 7.2 and upgrade it to 8.0-RC2 (I have never done this before and thus there is a possibility i do things the wrong way): freebsd-update -r 8.0-RC2 upgrade freebsd-update install Then I was asked to restart the system and continue the upgrade process. After the restart, things went wrong again: .. Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/ad0s1a ROOT MOUNT ERROR: If you have invalid mount options, reboot, and first try the following from the loader prompt: set vfs.root.mountfrom.options=rw and then remove invalid options from /etc/fstab .. Motherboard used is MSI MS-7255 Ver. 1.2; HDD 80GB Maxtor PATA; In all cases I partitioned the disk like this: ad0s1a - 76111MB / ad0s1b - 2048MB swap It makes no difference whether I use standard MBR or boot loader. Having in mind that FreeBSD 7.2 installs (and works) flawlessly on this hardware, I assume problem is related to broken support for any device present in this motherboard (maybe disk controller?) rather than hardware malfunction. I also tried to change settings in motherboard's BIOS to different values with no luck. I am out of ideas what further tests I may conduct in order to attempt to resolve this problem. >How-To-Repeat: Maybe attempt to install FreeBSD 8.0-* on MSI MS-7255 motherboard? >Fix: not known so far >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Nov 6 09:14:36 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: i386@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F31B21065676; Fri, 6 Nov 2009 09:14:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from tinderbox@freebsd.org) Received: from freebsd-current.sentex.ca (freebsd-current.sentex.ca [64.7.128.98]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CB55C8FC16; Fri, 6 Nov 2009 09:14:35 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freebsd-current.sentex.ca (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freebsd-current.sentex.ca (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id nA68kCIi073954; Fri, 6 Nov 2009 03:46:12 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from tinderbox@freebsd.org) Received: (from tinderbox@localhost) by freebsd-current.sentex.ca (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id nA68kCbH073944; Fri, 6 Nov 2009 08:46:12 GMT (envelope-from tinderbox@freebsd.org) Date: Fri, 6 Nov 2009 08:46:12 GMT Message-Id: <200911060846.nA68kCbH073944@freebsd-current.sentex.ca> X-Authentication-Warning: freebsd-current.sentex.ca: tinderbox set sender to FreeBSD Tinderbox using -f Sender: FreeBSD Tinderbox From: FreeBSD Tinderbox To: FreeBSD Tinderbox , , Precedence: bulk Cc: Subject: [head tinderbox] failure on i386/i386 X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 06 Nov 2009 09:14:36 -0000 TB --- 2009-11-06 06:50:00 -
