Currently compiling: GSPCA based Webcams, USB video class webcams. Technically all V4L Radio/DVB and Webcam devices using USB on Linux can be supported under FreeBSD in userland with little hassle. The only problem is that the Linux kernel code is GPL and not LGPL licensed, so there might be a problem linking with propritary applications ... Almost finished code is available from: svn --username anonsvn --password anonsvn \ checkout svn://svn.turbocat.net/i4b/trunk/usbcam/ulinux NOTE: Not all files are checked in, so running "make clean all" won't get you anything yet. If you want to help out on getting the rest of the Linux Webcam drivers up and running on BSD, then please let me know. --HPS From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jun 1 21:26:47 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 22E7A1065673; Mon, 1 Jun 2009 21:26:47 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from mrechberger@gmail.com) Received: from mail-bw0-f213.google.com (mail-bw0-f213.google.com [209.85.218.213]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0F2598FC18; Mon, 1 Jun 2009 21:26:45 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from mrechberger@gmail.com) Received: by bwz9 with SMTP id 9so7924847bwz.43 for ; Mon, 01 Jun 2009 14:26:45 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:mime-version:received:in-reply-to:references :date:message-id:subject:from:to:cc:content-type :content-transfer-encoding; bh=6RoC87HGTSQv2jMh628FlCNHB0OYjLy07tTiOcO/wi4=; b=K5AhwZ54IGc1QQ1WBjdhkXgr6+S1U6rmeWN8S+lJTVoAY9EI75tuDfvwySJuqPlfe1 dXFIsbwxGbIxnpBROVoIBnz11pzIZ1eezKeCqdjHmW84QWom9k5ax5lDWKWXj9RzTerK OLXfhOSMiY0oj2tRMLRzjDa18uFECUEOmT8Ns= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :cc:content-type:content-transfer-encoding; b=e9/VXix4HTrhurnZE/Ac+H53PZZ504z5yivwvEOa3fsaDUZ89DoMVy0JCq2LU9dxNP K3+Pk9zZ6aqqFaSHLzuRd9GnVdvqzRm+enxwISDLk6tzaoiBv2ZnAyd4c0pqXK46dMwM PasXFnSHcnES/LSbeyesPpXnjZBLPR9lT5SII= MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.103.223.2 with SMTP id a2mr3441710mur.88.1243890374172; Mon, 01 Jun 2009 14:06:14 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: <200906012241.12019.hselasky@c2i.net> References: <200804142217.17035.beech@FreeBSD.org> <20090530070025.GA2465@current.Sisis.de> <200906012241.12019.hselasky@c2i.net> Date: Mon, 1 Jun 2009 23:06:14 +0200 Message-ID: From: Markus Rechberger To: Hans Petter Selasky Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org, freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org, Beech Rintoul Subject: Re: USB webcam++ support for FreeBSD-8-current is soon here X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 01 Jun 2009 21:26:47 -0000 Hi, On Mon, Jun 1, 2009 at 10:41 PM, Hans Petter Selasky wro= te: > Hi, > > During the weekend I have almost finished my Userland Linux kernel wrappe= r > with full USB support through the new libusb and Linux' V4L API. > > Currently compiling: GSPCA based Webcams, USB video class webcams. > > Technically all V4L Radio/DVB and Webcam devices using USB on Linux can b= e > supported under FreeBSD in userland with little hassle. I wonder because the synchronous attempt to transmit URBs is way to slow for this. I more or less also have a userspace wrapper for video4linux2 and linuxdvb which also works with eg. libusb, libpci and works on Apple. On Linux it works with legacy applications by using LD_PRELOAD although I still need a fast data transfer link to the kernel for USB (which is not provided by libusb yet). I also have a driver for this already (DVB-C, DVB-T, analog TV, FM Radio USB Hybrid dongle). regards, Markus From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jun 2 06:38:02 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B44E7106568C; Tue, 2 Jun 2009 06:38:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hselasky@c2i.net) Received: from swip.net (mailfe02.swip.net [212.247.154.33]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BDD428FC0A; Tue, 2 Jun 2009 06:37:56 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hselasky@c2i.net) X-Cloudmark-Score: 0.000000 [] X-Cloudmark-Analysis: v=1.0 c=1 a=UVsXOa8ue38A:10 a=FbYV3LkVdecA:10 a=j+k/Ze5hWUCaCztCgEjzDQ==:17 a=8kQB0OdkAAAA:8 a=OdR5sfXFAAAA:8 a=NVwVp3h0kRVtfkd0vXYA:9 a=x8mpSUuayRY7ztYWDmoA:7 a=uHzZECeVSXpBJioWfkf_TLmVK-AA:4 a=9aOQ2cSd83gA:10 Received: from [81.191.55.181] (account mc467741@c2i.net HELO laptop) by mailfe02.swip.net (CommuniGate Pro SMTP 5.2.13) with ESMTPA id 1255503714; Tue, 02 Jun 2009 08:37:54 +0200 From: Hans Petter Selasky To: Markus Rechberger Date: Tue, 2 Jun 2009 08:42:01 +0200 User-Agent: KMail/1.9.7 References: <200804142217.17035.beech@FreeBSD.org> <200906012241.12019.hselasky@c2i.net> In-Reply-To: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Disposition: inline Message-Id: <200906020842.03175.hselasky@c2i.net> Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org, freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org, Beech Rintoul Subject: Re: USB webcam++ support for FreeBSD-8-current is soon here X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 02 Jun 2009 06:38:03 -0000 On Monday 01 June 2009, Markus Rechberger wrote: > Hi, > > On Mon, Jun 1, 2009 at 10:41 PM, Hans Petter Selasky =20 wrote: > > Hi, > > > > During the weekend I have almost finished my Userland Linux kernel > > wrapper with full USB support through the new libusb and Linux' V4L API. > > > > Currently compiling: GSPCA based Webcams, USB video class webcams. > > > > Technically all V4L Radio/DVB and Webcam devices using USB on Linux can > > be supported under FreeBSD in userland with little hassle. Then we ar= e=20 transferring 240 mbit/second. I've seen it is not transfer capacity, but=20 rather delay which is the problem. > I wonder=20 > because the synchronous attempt to > transmit URBs is way to slow for this. The new libusb in FreeBSD-8-current is asynchronous! Hi Nicolas, I've updated the SVN repository now. 1) svn up First you need to fetch the latest V4L sources: 2) fetch http://linuxtv.org/hg/~hgoede/libv4l/archive/tip.tar.bz2 Then you extract the tip.tar.bz2 and make a symbolic link from the root directory of where you extracted it to "linux" under "ulinux", so that "ls -l" outputs something like this: > ll linux linux -> /usr/home/hans/v4llib/libv4l-e34f101b80c2/linux 3) make all I'm currently running a mix of 8-current and 7-stable, so there might be more stuff broken. --HPS From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jun 2 10:23:33 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 074E01065670 for ; Tue, 2 Jun 2009 10:23:33 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from c.r.n.a@wanadoo.fr) Received: from smtp20.orange.fr (smtp20.orange.fr [80.12.242.26]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BEB408FC08 for ; Tue, 2 Jun 2009 10:23:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from c.r.n.a@wanadoo.fr) Received: from me-wanadoo.net (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by mwinf2026.orange.fr (SMTP Server) with ESMTP id 6743620000B0; Tue, 2 Jun 2009 12:23:31 +0200 (CEST) Received: from [192.168.1.27] (ABordeaux-157-1-172-239.w86-210.abo.wanadoo.fr [86.210.227.239]) by mwinf2026.orange.fr (SMTP Server) with ESMTP id 0FD3C200004F; Tue, 2 Jun 2009 12:23:28 +0200 (CEST) X-ME-UUID: 20090602102329650.0FD3C200004F@mwinf2026.orange.fr Message-ID: <4A24FD1A.7020604@wanadoo.fr> Date: Tue, 02 Jun 2009 12:21:14 +0200 From: Nicolas User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 (X11/20090414) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Hans Petter Selasky , freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org References: <4A24F849.80204@wanadoo.fr> <200906021217.24357.hselasky@c2i.net> In-Reply-To: <200906021217.24357.hselasky@c2i.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: Subject: USB webcam++ support for FreeBSD-8-current is soon here X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 02 Jun 2009 10:23:33 -0000 Ok, thank you. Hardware or driver may have issues with support of more then 32bit addresses. I have successfully used driver on system with 4GB RAM, so I think that it may be a hardware issue. Also you may try to change sc->support_64bit = HDA_FLAG_MATCH(gcap, HDAC_GCAP_64OK); line to sc->support_64bit = 0; , to strictly limit driver to 32bit addresses ignoring hardware capabilities. -- Alexander Motin From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Jun 5 10:23:49 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 585341065672 for ; Fri, 5 Jun 2009 10:23:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from kostikbel@gmail.com) Received: from mail.terabit.net.ua (mail.terabit.net.ua [195.137.202.147]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D0E5E8FC19 for ; Fri, 5 Jun 2009 10:23:47 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from kostikbel@gmail.com) Received: from skuns.zoral.com.ua ([91.193.166.194] helo=mail.zoral.com.ua) by mail.terabit.net.ua with esmtps (TLSv1:AES256-SHA:256) (Exim 4.63 (FreeBSD)) (envelope-from ) id 1MCWDh-000CLG-LT; Fri, 05 Jun 2009 13:00:17 +0300 Received: from deviant.kiev.zoral.com.ua (root@deviant.kiev.zoral.com.ua [10.1.1.148]) by mail.zoral.com.ua (8.14.2/8.14.2) with ESMTP id n55A0D0s038439 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=NO); Fri, 5 Jun 2009 13:00:13 +0300 (EEST) (envelope-from kostikbel@gmail.com) Received: from deviant.kiev.zoral.com.ua (kostik@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by deviant.kiev.zoral.com.ua (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id n55A0Djn090707; Fri, 5 Jun 2009 13:00:13 +0300 (EEST) (envelope-from kostikbel@gmail.com) Received: (from kostik@localhost) by deviant.kiev.zoral.com.ua (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id n55A0CbO090706; Fri, 5 Jun 2009 13:00:12 +0300 (EEST) (envelope-from kostikbel@gmail.com) X-Authentication-Warning: deviant.kiev.zoral.com.ua: kostik set sender to kostikbel@gmail.com using -f Date: Fri, 5 Jun 2009 13:00:12 +0300 From: Kostik Belousov To: "Carlos A. I did this to sys/dev/sound/pci/hda/hdac.c and it didn't help. I added a printf immediately afterward so I was sure I was loading the right module. I'll append the dmesg output below. I also tried tweaking various BIOS settings. Here are my choices: AZALIA AUDIO: [Disabled], [Internal codec], [External codec], or [Internal codec + External codec] Front Panel Select: [AC97] or [HD Audio] SPDIF Mode Setting: [HDMI Output] or [SPDIF Output] Obviously toggling the second two did absolutely nothing. Remember that it works perfectly in i386. I'm only keeping the i386 disk around to help fix this issue. If you've completely run out of ideas, let me know so I can turn that disk back into a mirror. Other two new options allows to select based on language (e.g. English, Hindi, etc.) via "--language" option; and to directly download the actual contents on a device via "--cachedir" option. podcatcher \ --horizon 2009.06.01 \ --language en,hi \ --cachedir /media/iaudio7/MUSIC/Podcast \ --dir ~/audio/podcatcher \ ... >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: diff -uNr podcatcher.old/Makefile podcatcher/Makefile --- podcatcher.old/Makefile 2007-09-29 21:59:27.000000000 -1000 +++ podcatcher/Makefile 2009-06-06 02:33:32.000000000 -1000 @@ -7,7 +7,7 @@ # PORTNAME= podcatcher -PORTVERSION= 2.0.1 +PORTVERSION= 3.1.4 CATEGORIES= multimedia ruby MASTER_SITES= ${MASTER_SITE_RUBYFORGE} MASTER_SITE_SUBDIR= ${PORTNAME} @@ -19,9 +19,22 @@ WRKSRC= ${WRKDIR}/${PORTNAME} NO_BUILD= yes -PLIST_FILES= bin/podcatcher +PLIST_FILES= bin/podcatcher \ + ${EXAMPLESDIR_REL}/arguments.txt \ + ${EXAMPLESDIR_REL}/options.yaml \ + ${EXAMPLESDIR_REL}/subscriptions.pcast \ + ${EXAMPLESDIR_REL}/subscriptions.opml + +PLIST_DIRS= ${EXAMPLESDIR_REL} do-install: - @${INSTALL_SCRIPT} ${WRKSRC}/${PORTNAME} ${PREFIX}/bin + @${INSTALL_SCRIPT} ${WRKSRC}/bin/${PORTNAME} ${PREFIX}/bin + +post-install: + @${MKDIR} ${EXAMPLESDIR} \ + && \ + ( cd ${WRKSRC}/demo \ + && ${COPYTREE_SHARE} \* ${EXAMPLESDIR} \ + ) .include diff -uNr podcatcher.old/distinfo podcatcher/distinfo --- podcatcher.old/distinfo 2007-09-29 21:59:27.000000000 -1000 +++ podcatcher/distinfo 2009-06-06 01:18:13.000000000 -1000 @@ -1,3 +1,3 @@ -MD5 (podcatcher-2.0.1.tar.gz) = fcb656d5b1ad0942b2e636e9a92ab54a -SHA256 (podcatcher-2.0.1.tar.gz) = 1d0a7090c8774fbef3d229b71eaddb4312b12c27747728ce6a0d7dbe90b6713e -SIZE (podcatcher-2.0.1.tar.gz) = 20116 +MD5 (podcatcher-3.1.4.tar.gz) = 38e5382613c4a454b8138bcc2b881e68 +SHA256 (podcatcher-3.1.4.tar.gz) = 96cdbc0e2922417d128e0504288262324c0e8e2330ae205a183a1e458a62a470 +SIZE (podcatcher-3.1.4.tar.gz) = 23840 From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jun 6 13:30:14 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2F8EE1065672; Sat, 6 Jun 2009 13:30:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from edwin@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 056008FC16; Sat, 6 Jun 2009 13:30:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from edwin@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (edwin@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id n56DUDWX066402; Sat, 6 Jun 2009 13:30:13 GMT (envelope-from edwin@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from edwin@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id n56DUDK9066388; Sat, 6 Jun 2009 13:30:13 GMT (envelope-from edwin) Date: Sat, 6 Jun 2009 13:30:13 GMT Message-Id: <200906061330.n56DUDK9066388@freefall.freebsd.org> To: edwin@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-ports-bugs@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org From: edwin@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: ports/135313: (patch) Update multimedia/podcatcher to 3.1.4 (Sep 2008) X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 06 Jun 2009 13:30:14 -0000 Synopsis: (patch) Update multimedia/podcatcher to 3.1.4 (Sep 2008) Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-ports-bugs->freebsd-multimedia Responsible-Changed-By: edwin Responsible-Changed-When: Sat Jun 6 13:30:13 UTC 2009 Responsible-Changed-Why: Over to maintainer (via the GNATS Auto Assign Tool) http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=135313
