The mail was from way back, but my port is very up to date, so I'm resending this to FreeBSD-gnome. I just want to get my FreeBSD-linux (any version--I want linux-firefox, ultimately flash) working)] I have a problem ... I don't neccessarily want it fixed, but if the general direction of a fix could be explained, I'm willing to do what I need to do to get past the error myself. When trying to install either the linux-firefox, I found out about the way to get the ports to either f8 or f10, so that's not the problem here. I began trying to install linux-firefox (using portmaster), and I set up to use -f10 at first. The installation of the X11-toolkit stuff failed in doing the f10 pango, which kept giving the error: /compat/linux/usr/bin/pango-querymodules-32: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libpango-1.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_intern_static_string *** Error code 127 I checked, in the FreeBSD pango lib, that's a defined symbol, but in the Linux libs, it's (while in the lib) an undefined symbol (it needs to link to some other lib). I found a web post using Google, by Mel Flynn, which admitted the error and explained that there was no fix yet. I tried to deinstall all of my f10 ports, and replace them with the f8 flavor, but then I get another error stating that "The component dbuslibs is not defined for LINUX_DIST_SUFFIX=-f8". So, I can't get either the -f10 nor the -f8 installed, and I don't understand enough Linuxism to figure out what "pango-querymodules" is going (or not doing). Is there any way to get a current Freebsd-Linux port working? I sure hope I'm using the correct list here. I didn't want to cross-post, but couldn't find any freebsd-linux list, either. Maybe I'll try freebsd-ports if I fail here. Any hints, either on the problem or where to ask, gratefully received. This one is really mystifying to me. I have two geli encrypted USB disk slices. One shows up in lshal and the other does not. I can't see any difference to account for this. Both are geli slices that have a UFS 'd' partition. One is seen by hald and auto-mounted. While the geli slice of the other is seen by hald, the partition in it is not, so it is not mounted. devd reports the device creation identically, as far as I can tell. I can authenticate and browse ok with an old FreeBSD 6.1 with KDE 3.5 but not with my new 8.1 with the latest KDE or Gnome available. Once the authentication (username/password) window appears, i give the credentials and then keeps getting back asking for them again. The behavior is the same with Gnome, Konqueror, Epiphany, Dolphin, Firefox3.6 On the X stderr, i keep getting entries like: X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3 Major opcode: 20 (X_GetProperty) Resource id: 0x120001a X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3 Major opcode: 20 (X_GetProperty) Resource id: 0x120001a kded(11999)/KPasswdServer KPasswdServer::checkAuthInfoAsync: User = "tututa" , W indowId = 71303269 kded(11999)/KPasswdServer KPasswdServer::queryAuthInfoAsync: User = "tututa" , M essage= "Please enter authentication information for: Server = 10.9.200.8 Share = private" , WindowId = 71303269 kded(11999)/KPasswdServer KPasswdServer::processRequest: User = "tututa" , Messa ge = "Please enter authentication information for: Server = 10.9.200.8 Share = private" kded(11999)/KPasswdServer KPasswdServer::processRequest: auto retry! kded(11999)/KPasswdServer KPasswdServer::checkAuthInfoAsync: User = "tututa" , W indowId = 71303269 kded(11999)/KPasswdServer KPasswdServer::queryAuthInfoAsync: User = "tututa" , M essage= "Please enter authentication information for: Server = 10.9.200.8 Share = private" , WindowId = 71303269 kded(11999)/KPasswdServer KPasswdServer::processRequest: User = "tututa" , Messa ge = "Please enter authentication information for: Server = 10.9.200.8 Share = private" kded(11999)/KPasswdServer KPasswdServer::addAuthInfoItem: Updating AuthInfoConta iner X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3 Major opcode: 20 (X_GetProperty) Resource id: 0x12011ab X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3 i would like to submit a bug, but i am not sure where to. one thing i might try is to run X without hald, dbus, which IMO at the moment look as buggy as hell, i am just keeping them for the sake of staying "modern", but the reality is i really dont know. If any one could help me in the right direction, that would be more than great. -- Achilleas Mantzios From owner-freebsd-gnome@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Sep 17 21:39:08 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: gnome@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2A0EC1065672 for ; Fri, 17 Sep 2010 21:39:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from marcus@freebsd.org) Received: from av-tac-rtp.cisco.com (hen.cisco.com [64.102.19.198]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id ED1818FC08 for ; Fri, 17 Sep 2010 21:39:07 +0000 (UTC) X-TACSUNS: Virus Scanned Received: from rooster.cisco.com (localhost.cisco.com [127.0.0.1]) by av-tac-rtp.cisco.com (8.13.8+Sun/8.13.8) with ESMTP id o8HLd6du007258; Fri, 17 Sep 2010 17:39:06 -0400 (EDT) Received: from fruit-rollup.marcuscom.com (jclarke-pc.cisco.com [172.18.254.236]) by rooster.cisco.com (8.13.8+Sun/8.13.8) with ESMTP id o8HLd10r018252; Fri, 17 Sep 2010 17:39:01 -0400 (EDT) Message-ID: <4C93DFF5.7060007@freebsd.org> Date: Fri, 17 Sep 2010 17:39:01 -0400 From: Joe Marcus Clarke Organization: FreeBSD, Inc. This looks like a threading problem with Python. I'm seeing a crash (with next to no details) that seems to stem from Python and threads. I'm copying python@ here. Python guys, after an upgrade to 2.6.6, starting audio/rhythmbox results in a crash. Gdb reports: 0x0804b327 in main (argc=1235131264, argv=0x2) at main.c:330 330 pyg_begin_allow_threads; (and nothing else, weird) This function is a macro defined in pygobject.h to be: #define pyg_begin_allow_threads \ G_STMT_START { \ PyThreadState *_save = NULL; \ if (_PyGObject_API->threads_enabled) \ _save = PyEval_SaveThread(); #define pyg_end_allow_threads \ if (_PyGObject_API->threads_enabled) \ PyEval_RestoreThread(_save); \ } G_STMT_END Python has been built with default threading (but no pth). Counting myself, three users have reported this problem on RELENG_8.
