Btw I meanwhile found a kind of `workaround' until we have a new sun jdk or icedtea port: konqueror (both the kde3 and the kde4 versions) runs java applets via a normal `java' executable (and apparently its own ipc wrapper code), so it doesn't need a plugin. And this also means it even works with openjdk7 (and linux-sun-jdk in a native browser), at least it did for me doing a simple test on http://spaceflight1.nasa.gov/realdata/tracking/index.html after setting either JAVA_HOME or configuring a full path in settings -> konqueror -> java and javascript -> path to java executable. All of these worked for me: zsh triton8% ll /usr/local/*/bin/java -rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 95014 May 13 2008 /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/bin/java* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 47308 Oct 11 10:40 /usr/local/linux-sun-jdk1.6.0/bin/java* -r-xr-xr-x 1 root wheel 60214 Feb 13 06:15 /usr/local/openjdk7/bin/java* zsh triton8% HTH, :) Juergen From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Feb 27 04:27:53 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 31D17106564A for ; Sat, 27 Feb 2010 04:27:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ligregni@unixmexico.org) Received: from mail-gw0-f54.google.com (mail-gw0-f54.google.com [74.125.83.54]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EC6278FC13 for ; Sat, 27 Feb 2010 04:27:52 +0000 (UTC) Received: by gwaa20 with SMTP id a20so452286gwa.13 for ; Fri, 26 Feb 2010 20:27:43 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.101.40.1 with SMTP id s1mr1937691anj.222.1267243020040; Fri, 26 Feb 2010 19:57:00 -0800 (PST) Received: from localhost ([189.163.142.246]) by mx.google.com with ESMTPS id 4sm291069yxd.16.2010.02.26.19.56.55 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=RC4-MD5); Fri, 26 Feb 2010 19:56:57 -0800 (PST) Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary=----------HdhWGv5Uz0cJ0m24VYQWbz To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Date: Fri, 26 Feb 2010 21:57:06 -0600 MIME-Version: 1.0 From: "Sergio Ligregni" Organization: ITQ Message-ID: User-Agent: Opera Mail/10.10 (FreeBSD) Subject: Java Bug Report X-BeenThere: freebsd-java@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting Java to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 27 Feb 2010 04:27:53 -0000 ------------HdhWGv5Uz0cJ0m24VYQWbz Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed; delsp=yes Content-Transfer-Encoding: Quoted-Printable When trying to run LimeWire (installed from ports, both JDK & LW) Attached the .log created Thanks -- = ----------------------------------------------------------- Sergio Andr=C3=A9s Ligregni Arredondo Estudiante Ingenier=C3=ADa en Sistemas Computacionales, ITQ. 2010 State-Changed-Why: I see no reason to keep this PR lingering. We've been using JAVAJARDIR for 5+ years now as the place where ports install JARs on FreeBSD. The reasons for deciding to do so then still hold now and I don't believe there is any chance we'd ever switch to the installation policy advocated in this PR for those very same reasons. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=56928 From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Feb 27 12:54:55 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 01DB01065673 for ; Sat, 27 Feb 2010 12:54:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from barbara.xxx1975@libero.it) Received: from cp-out4.libero.it (cp-out4.libero.it [212.52.84.104]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 849368FC1C for ; Sat, 27 Feb 2010 12:54:54 +0000 (UTC) Received: from libero.it (192.168.33.222) by cp-out4.libero.it (8.5.107) id 4B7ECAEE006C81BF; Sat, 27 Feb 2010 13:42:35 +0100 Date: Sat, 27 Feb 2010 13:42:35 +0100 Message-Id: MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Sensitivity: 3 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable From: "barbara" To: "nox" X-XaM3-API-Version: 4.3 (R1) (B3pl25) X-SenderIP: 82.61.157.23 Cc: kamikaze , peterjeremy , miwi , gecko , ports , java Subject: Re:java in a browser (was: Re: [CFT] Firefox 3.6 for FreeBSD) X-BeenThere: freebsd-java@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting Java to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 27 Feb 2010 12:54:55 -0000 > In article <20100205091256.GA97892@misty.eyesbeyond.com> you write: > >On Fri, Feb 05, 2010 at 09:27:49AM +0100, Dominic Fandrey wrote: > >> Greg Lewis wrote: > >> > On Fri, Feb 05, 2010 at 07:48:37AM +1100, Peter Jeremy wrote: > >> >> On 2010-Feb-04 01:19:33 +0100, Martin Wilke wr= ote: > >> >>> The problem was that starting Firefox 3.6 with certain > >> >>> addons installed was not possible. At least until it will get a new gecko version.
