Is this dependency > non-avoidable? Fortunately, the latest version doesn't depend on esound any longer. It installs some additional binaries, but I don't think that's a big issue. But your comment gave me a different idea that might be worthwile. If both ports are kept (i.e., libmpcdec containing the updated library, musepack just the tools), the upgrade path would be easier. Ports could be upgraded without manual intervention. Let's try doing the following: 1. Add `options EMU_MTX_DEBUG' to your kernconf. 2. Add set the sysctl: dev.emu10kx.0.debug=3D1 . Let's see if anything changes... Also, if you could provide some more hardware stats (say dmesg.boot and/or devinfo -v) and version stats (I already know that you're running amd64 from your kernel config) for the OS that would be helpful as well. I'm going to try upgrading my kernel and I'll try these steps as well. The locking between this driver and some other sound drivers isn't exactly the same (interestingly enough this driver uses Giant locking for some bits, while the ich one doesn't), and there were some past bugs with other branches of *BSD's drivers related to pci bus commands, etc; the other BSDs have dramatically different soundsystems -- I assume the old school soundsystem, s.t. the issues are probably not the same. Since textproc/libebml got updated to 0.8.0 yesterday, I presume that libmatroska 0.8.1 is incompatible to libebml 0.8.0. From http://www.matroska.org/node/73: "We have just released new versions of libebml 0.8.0 and libmatroska 0.9.0." I guess the two ports should have been updated at the same time. I have just submitted ports/147256 with a patch that does the update and fixes the builds of multimedia/libmatroska and multimedia/vlc. I'm trying to "register" the mms-protocol with firefox (3.6.3), and it is not working :-( I'm following the advice found on: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Register_protocol Unfortunately, neither of the listed methods change anything about firefox' behavior. I'd like to use the KDE's Dragon Player. The two commands seem to succeed, but firefox continues to insist "the protocol (mms) isn't associated with any program". gconftool-2 -s /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/mms/command '/opt/kde4/bin/dragon %s' --type String gconftool-2 -s /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/mms/enabled --type Boolean true Does it work for anyone? How did you do it? The system is being used as a barebones mini mainframe with no GUI but none the less I have installed xmms2 on it as I thought it could be a good radio station and also just for fun listening too :-) Anyhow, each time I tried to start xmms2 I got a response of OSS not found. I then built OSS from the ports collection and rebooted and unfortunately I still get an error: $ xmms2d INFO: ../src/xmms/log.c:49: Initialized logging system :) 23:00:07 INFO: ../src/xmms/ipc.c:795: IPC listening on 'tcp://192.168.1.120:9090'. 23:00:07 INFO: ../src/xmms/main.c:517: Using output plugin: oss 23:00:07 ERROR: ../src/xmms/output.c:978: Could not initialize output plugin Starting XMMS2 phone home agent... pciconf -lv gives this response: none1@pci0:0:27:0: class=0x040300 card=0x50038086 chip=0x3a3e8086 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = 'HD Audio Controller' class = multimedia subclass = HDA I am guessing the none1 at the beginning means that there is no driver in the system for it?? I did manage to find this on Google: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-multimedia/2006-September/004720.html however it seems that the project is now closed as there is no more source code downloadeable for the driver. Can anyone suggest anything to get my sound device working? Many thanks. Sorry for getting delayed a bit with my last reply as am on 2 different machines which don't auto update regularly..... Anyhow it works now and just managed to hack out XMMS2 as well so I have a fully audible server now :-) I remember I did this before on my first build, however in the mean time I think I panicked as I have to go back home tomorrow which means a 4 hour flight so time constraints got the better of me this time. Let's keep this thread focused on the issue you originally reported, re: snd_emu10kx. Open up another separate thread (don't reply to this one and start a new topic; send a brand new Email) for whatever issues you're having with em(4). In *that* thread, provide output from: - uname -a (you can X-out the machine name if need be) - dmesg | grep em0 (or whatever interface number, e.g. em2) - pciconf -lvc Thanks. -- | Jeremy Chadwick jdc@parodius.com | | Parodius Networking http://www.parodius.com/ | | UNIX Systems Administrator Mountain View, CA, USA | | Making life hard for others since 1977.
