The issue does not affect amd64. I don't have other architectures to test with, but I imagine only x86 is affected. Testing/reproducing it is simple via CLI: php -r '$d = 2.2250738585072011e-308;' The interpreter will immediately begin chewing up 100% CPU. FreeBSD version does not appear to matter. This issue would affect CLI, CGI, and Apache module versions, and depending on one's code, would be exploitable via $_GET and $_POST variables or similar. That's one thing that makes this incredibly dangerous (classifiable as a DoS). Server administrators should be very concerned; ktrace/truss/etc. will not show anything going on when this happens, only that the process is taking up 100% CPU. For an explanation that makes a bit of sense, see the 2nd URL above, and search for "IA-32". I imagine optimisation levels (-O vs. -O0 vs. -O2) can play a role here as well. The workaround seems to be adding -ffloat-store to CFLAGS during compile-time on 32-bit architectures. I haven't personally tested this, but the explanation seems reasonable. -- | Jeremy Chadwick jdc@parodius.com | | Parodius Networking http://www.parodius.com/ | | UNIX Systems Administrator Mountain View, CA, USA | | Making life hard for others since 1977. I'm encountering the same problem a year after this on a freshly built 8.1 installation and Google searches point to this PR thread, but I haven't found the "see apache@ list" thread pgollucci referred to a year ago anywhere in my searches. Often, this is due to a better alternative having become available and/or the cessation of development on the existing port. In some cases, ports are marked for removal because they fail to build and install correctly from their sources, or otherwise fail in operation. The ports, and the reason and date that they have been scheduled for removal, are listed below. If no one has stepped forward before that time to propose a way to fix the problems (such as via a PR), the ports will be deleted. portname: www/apache20 description: Version 2.0.x of Apache web server with prefork MPM. maintainer: apache@FreeBSD.org deprecated because: will be unsupported by ASF when 2.4.0 is release, migrate to 2.2.x+ now expiration date: 2011-05-01 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=www&portname=apache20 portname: www/mod_auth_remote description: Allows users to authenticate on a remote web server maintainer: apache@FreeBSD.org status: IGNORE deprecated because: will be unsupported by ASF when 2.4.0 is release, migrate to 2.2.x+ now expiration date: 2011-05-01 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=www&portname=mod_auth_remote portname: www/mod_authenticache description: A generic credential caching module for Apache 2.0.x maintainer: apache@FreeBSD.org status: IGNORE deprecated because: will be unsupported by ASF when 2.4.0 is release, migrate to 2.2.x+ now expiration date: 2011-05-01 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=www&portname=mod_authenticache portname: www/mod_layout2 description: Apache2 module to wrap served pages with a header and/or footer maintainer: apache@FreeBSD.org status: IGNORE deprecated because: will be unsupported by ASF when 2.4.0 is release, migrate to 2.2.x+ now expiration date: 2011-05-01 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=www&portname=mod_layout2 portname: www/mod_macro2 description: Apache 2.0.x module for use macros in config files maintainer: apache@FreeBSD.org status: IGNORE deprecated because: will be unsupported by ASF when 2.4.0 is release, migrate to 2.2.x+ now expiration date: 2011-05-01 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=www&portname=mod_macro2 portname: www/mod_traf_thief description: Allows you to redirect part of the traffic to your url maintainer: apache@FreeBSD.org status: IGNORE deprecated because: will be unsupported by ASF when 2.4.0 is release, migrate to 2.2.x+ now expiration date: 2011-05-01 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=www&portname=mod_traf_thief If this problem is one that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. No, I think the fail is valid, since this was the second test case, where I defined *"APACHE_PORT= www/apache22"* in /etc/make.conf! You stripped the following column header for this tests > Additional results with "APACHE_PORT= www/apache22" > in /etc/make.conf and fire `make' command. Without /etc/make.conf (first test case) all tests are success.
