I believe that the rendering thread for some reason time outs on 8.x. I compiled chrome WITH_DEBUG on both 8 and 9 and only on 8 a check fails at base/condition_variable_posix.cc:37 pthread_cond_wait returns nonzero. void ConditionVariable::Wait() { #if !defined(NDEBUG) user_lock_->CheckHeldAndUnmark(); #endif int rv = pthread_cond_wait(&condition_, user_mutex_); DCHECK(rv == 0); #if !defined(NDEBUG) user_lock_->CheckUnheldAndMark(); #endif } The chrome executable is over 1.5GB I tried ./chrome --renderer-cmd-prefix='xterm -e gdb72 --args' so i can get a backtrace but gdb dies, i added 4 more gigs of memory to my desktop (total 8GB) but it didn't make any difference. On a side note chromium 9 builds fine with clang from head, just by using clang=1 at GYP_DEFINES. Thank you for your work! Though this page has Linux in the title, almost all of the advice should apply on FreeBSD as well: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/wiki/LinuxDebugging > The chrome executable is over 1.5GB That sounds about right. > I tried ./chrome --renderer-cmd-prefix='xterm -e gdb72 --args' > so i can get a backtrace but gdb dies, i added 4 more gigs of memory > to my desktop (total 8GB) but it didn't make any difference. Some other options: - get a core dump and run gdb on that. (Search for "core" on the above wiki page for some notes.) - if gdb is running out of memory, try building a binary with fewer debugging symbols: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/wiki/LinuxFasterBuilds#Build_WebKit_without_debug_symbols From owner-freebsd-chromium@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Feb 24 01:40:43 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-chromium@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 64B0E1065670; Thu, 24 Feb 2011 01:40:43 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from geo.liaskos@gmail.com) Received: from mail-gw0-f44.google.com (mail-gw0-f44.google.com [74.125.83.44]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0D3DD8FC15; Thu, 24 Feb 2011 01:40:42 +0000 (UTC) Received: by gwaa18 with SMTP id a18so58636gwa.17 for ; Wed, 23 Feb 2011 17:40:42 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date :message-id:subject:from:to:cc:content-type; bh=lXND3kMwlSvn+ya0Wh2kfL0bNUFRePMXuMGuDutOfKA=; b=p0709ge+T2Lfsp/jmU4bwe6oVzLGYPA+jBF9Btof4LqXpSJcQ9ff4d9sZxck8MCv0N MPghOTkkkyH5k3e1ao9sdtjnnNKTdggnoUipSpjby3/0XfeqB2CL/JCxf+UTeHA0wW74 ggOab8/EtXCro6zmD2II1UaLSele+KKwQudss= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :cc:content-type; b=A0XveJnovDuVb3Ny52MFN+dFQizdDtJxgDS+qD0NerxrhBOO0aZcJ6zd8pT32LF2VT F6qtdRJGmM+t9F7yifrUV1Kv7couTihIGzyvZCcgiJJbIikXlMl7VJCMxkhMrncLs2DS 7PicLk751fczMVQj/atcrdoLhWNr0E9/6MRi4= MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.100.46.13 with SMTP id t13mr122071ant.116.1298511640829; Wed, 23 Feb 2011 17:40:40 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.101.135.19 with HTTP; Wed, 23 Feb 2011 17:40:40 -0800 (PST) In-Reply-To: References: <4D62DF5D.3060702@freebsd.org> Date: Thu, 24 Feb 2011 03:40:40 +0200 Message-ID: From: George Liaskos To: Evan Martin Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Cc: freebsd-chromium@freebsd.org Subject: Re: chromium 9 can't open any page X-BeenThere: freebsd-chromium@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD-specific Chromium issues List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 24 Feb 2011 01:40:43 -0000 Thank you Evan Unfortunately i didn't manage to get a bt with gdb, gdb crashes. http://pastebin.com/rji9FM61 The renderers die always with the same error: [1841:194170880:4647631097:FATAL:base/condition_variable_posix.cc(37)] Check failed: rv == 0.
