When /proc isn't mounted, GDM runs but shows no users. The patch adds a note on /proc, and also breaks out the inline mentions of gdm_enable="YES" and gnome_enable="YES" to their own lines. This leaves the Windows crowd unaddressed. I've done some searching for a Windows utility to write memory sticks that is freely available and simple to use. There's a dd for Windows (http://www.chrysocome.net/dd), but it's difficult to use due to target names that are hard to associate with drive letters, and just plain complex. For example, \\?\Device\Harddisk5\Partition0. There's http://www.winimage.com/winimage.htm, which is general-purpose and shareware. Finally, there's https://launchpad.net/win32-image-writer, which is Image Writer for Windows or win32diskimager depending on how you look. Done by the Ubuntu folks. GPLV2. Easy to use. The best option I've found so far. The questions: Is there a better Windows utility for writing a memory stick image? If we recommend Image Writer for Windows, seems like it would be polite to ask the project before taking advantage of their download capacity. Or would it be better to have a copy hosted on a FreeBSD server? The first doesn't list FreeBSD as supported, the second has reports of failure with FreeBSD ISO images in the forums. But FreeBSD already has a memory stick image, we just need an easy-to-use tool for Windows in order to get it written onto the stick. Oh, and something I forgot to mention about Image Writer/win32diskimager: no install or uninstall, just extract the files to a folder and run. ---902635197-1414126108-1295321941=:16502-- From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jan 22 00:30:09 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 753D81065672 for ; Sat, 22 Jan 2011 00:30:09 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3812A8FC15 for ; Sat, 22 Jan 2011 00:30:09 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id p0M0U9qT088765 for ; Sat, 22 Jan 2011 00:30:09 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4/Submit) id p0M0U9Hp088764; Sat, 22 Jan 2011 00:30:09 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Sat, 22 Jan 2011 00:30:09 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <201101220030.p0M0U9Hp088764@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Mats Erik Andersson Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8823B1065673 for ; Sat, 22 Jan 2011 00:28:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from red.freebsd.org (unknown [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::22]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 77D948FC08 for ; Sat, 22 Jan 2011 00:28:54 +0000 (UTC) Received: from red.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by red.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id p0M0SsCk052778 for ; Sat, 22 Jan 2011 00:28:54 GMT (envelope-from nobody@red.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by red.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4/Submit) id p0M0SsuW052777; Sat, 22 Jan 2011 00:28:54 GMT (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <201101220028.p0M0SsuW052777@red.freebsd.org> Date: Sat, 22 Jan 2011 00:28:54 GMT From: Mats Erik Andersson To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-3.1 Cc: Subject: docs/154215: Error in manpage quotacheck(8).
