After having booted on the DVD, without doing anything (I pressed Space), a half of my dual core processor is used. Odd. But after having booted FreeBSD (and also FreeBSD noacpi), my disk suddenly becomes unusable because of enormous and unstoppable disk access. I'm using the default IDE hard disk, and I don't use VMware's paravirtualization. >How-To-Repeat: On an i386 machine : - Install VMware Player. - Boot on the FreeBSD-8.2-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso. - Note that a half of your dual core processor is in use. - Boot the default kernel (1). - Your computer has become unusable. >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Sun May 1 19:43:39 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: i386@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CC223106566C; Sun, 1 May 2011 19:43:39 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from tinderbox@freebsd.org) Received: from freebsd-current.sentex.ca (freebsd-current.sentex.ca [64.7.128.98]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 769DE8FC16; Sun, 1 May 2011 19:43:39 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freebsd-current.sentex.ca (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freebsd-current.sentex.ca (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id p41JhcKG098181; Sun, 1 May 2011 15:43:38 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from tinderbox@freebsd.org) Received: (from tinderbox@localhost) by freebsd-current.sentex.ca (8.14.4/8.14.4/Submit) id p41JhcY6098169; Sun, 1 May 2011 19:43:38 GMT (envelope-from tinderbox@freebsd.org) Date: Sun, 1 May 2011 19:43:38 GMT Message-Id: <201105011943.p41JhcY6098169@freebsd-current.sentex.ca> X-Authentication-Warning: freebsd-current.sentex.ca: tinderbox set sender to FreeBSD Tinderbox using -f Sender: FreeBSD Tinderbox From: FreeBSD Tinderbox To: FreeBSD Tinderbox , , Precedence: bulk Cc: Subject: [head tinderbox] failure on i386/pc98 X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 01 May 2011 19:43:39 -0000 TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:01 - tinderbox 2.7 running on freebsd-current.sentex.ca TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:01 - starting HEAD tinderbox run for i386/pc98 TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:01 - cleaning the object tree TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:23 - cvsupping the source tree TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:23 - /usr/bin/csup -z -r 3 -g -L 1 -h cvsup.sentex.ca /tinderbox/HEAD/i386/pc98/supfile TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:39 - building world TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:39 - MAKEOBJDIRPREFIX=/obj TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:39 - PATH=/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/sbin TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:39 - TARGET=pc98 TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:39 - TARGET_ARCH=i386 TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:39 - TZ=UTC TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:39 - __MAKE_CONF=/dev/null TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:39 - cd /src TB --- 2011-05-01 17:50:39 - /usr/bin/make -B buildworld >>> World build started on Sun May 1 17:50:40 UTC 2011 >>> Rebuilding the temporary build tree >>> stage 1.1: legacy release compatibility shims >>> stage 1.2: bootstrap tools >>> stage 2.1: cleaning up the object tree >>> stage 2.2: rebuilding the object tree >>> stage 2.3: build tools >>> stage 3: cross tools >>> stage 4.1: building includes >>> stage 4.2: building libraries >>> stage 4.3: make dependencies >>> stage 4.4: building everything >>> World build completed on Sun May 1 19:43:37 UTC 2011 TB --- 2011-05-01 19:43:37 - generating LINT kernel config TB --- 2011-05-01 19:43:37 - cd /src/sys/pc98/conf TB --- 2011-05-01 19:43:37 - /usr/bin/make -B LINT TB --- 2011-05-01 19:43:37 - building LINT kernel TB --- 2011-05-01 19:43:37 - MAKEOBJDIRPREFIX=/obj TB --- 2011-05-01 19:43:37 - PATH=/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/sbin TB --- 2011-05-01 19:43:37 - TARGET=pc98 TB --- 2011-05-01 19:43:37 - TARGET_ARCH=i386 TB --- 2011-05-01 19:43:37 - TZ=UTC TB --- 2011-05-01 19:43:37 - __MAKE_CONF=/dev/null TB --- 2011-05-01 19:43:37 - cd /src TB --- 2011-05-01 19:43:37 - /usr/bin/make -B buildkernel KERNCONF=LINT >>> Kernel build for LINT started on Sun May 1 19:43:37 UTC 2011 >>> stage 1: configuring the kernel [...] WARNING: kernel contains GPL contaminated emu10kx headers WARNING: kernel contains GPL contaminated emu10kx headers WARNING: kernel contains GPL contaminated maestro3 headers WARNING: kernel contains GPL contaminated ReiserFS filesystem WARNING: kernel contains GPL contaminated xfs filesystem WARNING: COMPAT_SVR4 is broken and should be avoided config: Error: device "wpi" is unknown config: 1 errors *** Error code 1 Stop in /src. *** Error code 1 Stop in /src. Tinderbox has been whining about malo for the last day or so on i386 because of this issue. Could someone please commit the following patch to fix it? It's correct according to the printf(3) manpage combined with the fields in the malo_hal structure. FWIW I'm a bit confused too because it's listed in the WITHOUT_MODULES group for several i386 kernel compiles based on my looking at the make universe output, but it's still barfing on the module with tinderbox (and not with my local make universe), but it the results might be tainted by my environment somehow.
