I think the deal isn't that 100% charge is bad, but overcharging is what kills the battery. The problem is that the battery level is difficult= =20 to measure so most laptops end up overcharging the battery quite badly when trying to bring it up to 100%. If you stop at 80% (which seems overly conservative to me) then you never have to worry=20 about overcharging.=20
