Lirc 0.8.7 and up has an ene0100 interface to it for both receive and transmit. So I'll try with Ubuntu 10.10 just to test things out. It connects via usb to a computer (it can connect vis serial too, but why use that when usb is everywhere?). Anyway, this module isn't getting picked up by the usb midi drivers of FreeBSD because it doesn't advertise iutself as "usb midi class", but instead uses "usb vendor class", if I have understood this correctly. In all other ways, the SD-20 is a general MIDI (GM2) device, if I understand correctly. usb device descriptor, current config etc. on my page for the SD-20[3]. Now, here is my idea: if there was a "shim" (usb) device driver under FreeBSD, which would attach to this device, and do just two things: a) modify the "usb class " of the device to be "usb midi" instead of "usb vendor" b) transparently forward all other requests (and responses) to and from the device the effect would be (I hope) that FreeBSD would see a new usb midi device, and the "normal" usb midi drivers would attach to this device. Voila! A driver for this almost-standard usb midi device (Roland SD-20), which would re-use the existing MIDI drivers. So, would this work, or not? Are you sure the protocol used by your device is compatible with the USB MIDI standard? You might be able to edit /sys/dev/sound/usb/uaudio.c so that it attaches. I just finished the version 0.2 of my Android remote control app and I'd like to get some feedback from different users/system/devices before submitting it to the Android market (and getting my ass kicked on the comments). But most of all, I think you might be interested. The app is called SSHmote and allows you to control your media player software using a SSH connection. Today, SSHmote includes 2 default profiles: MPlayer and VLC, but the cool thing is that all commands are editable. If you want to allocate one of the remote control's key to another action, you can. It is even possible to change the application you want to use and therefore create a whole new profile. I think it should be fairly simple to customize for people that know a bit about shell commands. So if you are interested and you own and Android device, give it a go: http://www.zokama.com/download/SSHmote-0.2.apk You can find more details on my (humble/under construction) web site. http://www.zokama.com/sshmote Thanks. (And sorry if I wasn't suppose to use this list for this) Zokama From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Feb 23 20:58:46 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E8AFC106566C for ; Wed, 23 Feb 2011 20:58:46 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no) Received: from thalia-smout.broadpark.no (thalia-smout.broadpark.no [80.202.8.21]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9EBB88FC14 for ; Wed, 23 Feb 2011 20:58:46 +0000 (UTC) MIME-version: 1.0 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Content-type: text/plain; CHARSET=US-ASCII Received: from terra-smin.broadpark.no ([80.202.8.13]) by thalia-smout.broadpark.no (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7u3-15.01 64bit (built Feb 12 2010)) with ESMTP id <0LH3002KS8XWWI80@thalia-smout.broadpark.no> for freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org; Wed, 23 Feb 2011 21:58:44 +0100 (CET) Received: from kg-v2.kg4.no ([84.48.120.77]) by terra-smin.broadpark.no (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7u3-15.01 64bit (built Feb 12 2010)) with SMTP id <0LH3003FM8XWRI10@terra-smin.broadpark.no> for freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org; Wed, 23 Feb 2011 21:58:44 +0100 (CET) Date: Wed, 23 Feb 2011 21:58:44 +0100 From: Torfinn Ingolfsen To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Message-id: <20110223215844.784dcdfb.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> In-reply-to: <201102231030.32160.hselasky@c2i.net> References: <20110221234912.fc03786d.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> <201102220900.05248.hselasky@c2i.net> <4D63852C.5050603@ladisch.de> <201102231030.32160.hselasky@c2i.net> X-Mailer: Sylpheed 3.1.0 (GTK+ 2.22.1; amd64-portbld-freebsd8.1) X-Face: "t9w2,-X@O^I`jVW\sonI3.,36KBLZE*AL[y9lL[PyFD*r_S:dIL9c[8Y>V42R0"!"yb_zN,f#%.[PYYNq; m"_0v; ~rUM2Yy!zmkh)3&U|u!=T(zyv,MHJv"nDH>OJ`t(@mil461d_B'Uo|'nMwlKe0Mv=kvV?Nh@>Hb<3s_z2jYgZhPb@?Wi^x1a~Hplz1.zH Cc: Subject: Re: idea: "shim" driver for Roland / Edirol SD-20 MIDI sound module? I actually had the same issue and downloaded the latest codec file from mplayerhq (http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/all-20110131.tar.bz2), and made the changes to the file (win32-codecs/distinfo) and it worked. I lost the actual data though since the next cvsup overrode it... But it fairly simple to gather the information: $md5 all-20110131.tar.bz2 $sh256 all-20110131.tar.bz2 $ls -l all-20110131.tar.bz2 I'm not sure if that's what you were after though. Zokama. mmap(PROT_READ, fd); mmap(PROT_WRITE, fd); This won't work entirely correctly, right? I base my question on some observations of how a particular program behaves on FreeBSD and on the following comment in sys/dev/sound/pcm/dsp.c: /* * XXX The linux api uses the nprot to select read/write buffer * our vm system doesn't allow this, so force write buffer. * * This is just a quack to fool full-duplex mmap, so that at * least playback _or_ recording works. If you really got the * urge to make _both_ work at the same time, avoid O_RDWR. * Just open each direction separately and mmap() it. * * Failure is not an option due to INVARIANTS check within * device_pager.c, which means, we have to give up one over * another. */ P.S. is this something that can easily fixed or not? -- Andriy Gapon From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Feb 26 15:27:13 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: multimedia@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 667EF106566B for ; Ok, with the SD-20 at umidi0.* and the keybaord at umidi1.* I do this: root@kg-v7# dd if=/dev/umidi1.0 of=/dev/umidi0.0 bs=1 And ... I get sound! Cool! Thanks! -- Torfinn
