Today I've tried to checkout RELENG_6 kernel source and rebuild snd_hda.ko and sound.ko on my 8.2-STABLE. snd_hda(4) required almost no hackery, builds and loads fine; mixer(8) reports something sane now: `pcm' and `vol' volumes (compared to just `speaker' and `rec' before). Alas, while it looks fine, sound still does not work. Apparently, old snd_hda(4) does not play nice with new sound(4). However, it seems that HDA-related logic at least detects and setups my sound chip correctly. I've tried to build sound(4), it required some manual patching to fix all unresolved symbols on module load (CHANNEL_SETDIR, msleep, minor, sx_init). However, once it loaded, laptop paniced immediately. :-( ./danfe From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Jun 5 20:04:19 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DD51A1065675 for ; Sun, 5 Jun 2011 20:04:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no) Received: from thalia-smout.broadpark.no (thalia-smout.broadpark.no [80.202.8.21]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9596C8FC0A for ; Sun, 5 Jun 2011 20:04:19 +0000 (UTC) MIME-version: 1.0 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Content-type: text/plain; CHARSET=US-ASCII Received: from ignis-smin.broadpark.no ([80.202.8.11]) by thalia-smout.broadpark.no (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7u3-15.01 64bit (built Feb 12 2010)) with ESMTP id <0LMC00CQK2F6M550@thalia-smout.broadpark.no> for freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org; Sun, 05 Jun 2011 22:04:18 +0200 (CEST) Received: from kg-v2.kg4.no ([84.48.120.215]) by ignis-smin.broadpark.no (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7u3-15.01 64bit (built Feb 12 2010)) with SMTP id <0LMC004RK2F50D00@ignis-smin.broadpark.no> for freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org; Sun, 05 Jun 2011 22:04:18 +0200 (CEST) Date: Sun, 05 Jun 2011 22:04:17 +0200 From: Torfinn Ingolfsen To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Message-id: <20110605220417.3f37dcca.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> In-reply-to: References: <20110418182621.9cdd6059.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> <20110523221216.33b48769.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> X-Mailer: Sylpheed 3.1.0 (GTK+ 2.22.1; amd64-portbld-freebsd8.1) X-Face: "t9w2,-X@O^I`jVW\sonI3.,36KBLZE*AL[y9lL[PyFD*r_S:dIL9c[8Y>V42R0"!"yb_zN,f#%.[PYYNq; m"_0v; ~rUM2Yy!zmkh)3&U|u!=T(zyv,MHJv"nDH>OJ`t(@mil461d_B'Uo|'nMwlKe0Mv=kvV?Nh@>Hb<3s_z2jYgZhPb@?Wi^x1a~Hplz1.zH Cc: Subject: Re: mythtv 0.24_1 and the pvr250 driver - testing X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 05 Jun 2011 20:04:19 -0000 On Tue, 24 May 2011 09:13:22 +0200 Bernhard Froehlich wrote: > Sounds like the driver does not support some ioctls. As before; the card and driver is tested with mplayer and works fine. First, driver traced pin 14 with no limitations and routed it to DAC 2. But after it failed to trace pin 13 anywhere, it supposed that initial solution about pin 14 could be wrong and tried to find another DAC for it. Unsuccessfully, as there is only one analog DAC in this codec. > Now, let's get back to nid 11, which was "busy by seqmask 1". It was routing single audio channel everywhere, ignoring any configuration. After rewrite, driver tried to use your configuration and found it wrong. Tunable you were using: hint.hdac.0.cad0.nid13.config="as=1 seq=15" is correct. It makes driver to setup audio redirection for headphones output, using same DAC as for the line-out. I would also added another tunable: hint.hdac.0.cad0.nid9.config="as=4 seq=0" to separate digital output into separate device, as it should. By the way it will return analog recording to pcm0 device, which was pushed out to pcm1, as pcm0 was considered digital because of using one digital pin there. -- Alexander Motin From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jun 7 12:09:04 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: multimedia@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3B25A106564A; Tue, 7 Jun 2011 12:09:04 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from danfe@regency.nsu.ru) Received: from mx.nsu.ru (r2b9.nsu.ru [212.192.164.39]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7D7548FC1D; Tue, 7 Jun 2011 12:09:03 +0000 (UTC) Received: from regency.nsu.ru ([193.124.210.26]) by mx.nsu.ru with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1QTv5c-0007Z8-7a; Tue, 07 Jun 2011 19:08:56 +0700 Received: from regency.nsu.ru (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by regency.nsu.ru (8.14.2/8.14.2) with ESMTP id p57CBXUd059729; Tue, 7 Jun 2011 19:11:34 +0700 (NOVST) (envelope-from danfe@regency.nsu.ru) Received: (from danfe@localhost) by regency.nsu.ru (8.14.2/8.14.2/Submit) id p57CBCE7059579; Tue, 7 Jun 2011 19:11:12 +0700 (NOVST) (envelope-from danfe) Date: Tue, 7 Jun 2011 19:11:11 +0700 From: Alexey Dokuchaev To: Alexander Motin Message-ID: <20110607121111.GA38205@regency.nsu.ru> References: <20100731163218.GA39249@regency.nsu.ru> <20110515163619.GA49401@regency.nsu.ru> <20110516032002.GA94798@regency.nsu.ru> <20110604142511.GA2424@regency.nsu.ru> <4DECC964.4040009@FreeBSD.org> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <4DECC964.4040009@FreeBSD.org> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i Cc: multimedia@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: snd_hda(4) pin routing issues X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 07 Jun 2011 12:09:04 -0000 On Mon, Jun 06, 2011 at 03:34:44PM +0300, Alexander Motin wrote: > Here you have output association including three independent outputs. > What's strange is that pin 9 is digital, while the rest two is analog. > It is not fatal, but usually wrong. Alexander, you rock! :-) After applying two tunables suggested I finally have working playback and recording (I've patched hdac_widget_pin_patch() function directly to avoid doing a reboot), huge thanks! I'm having an almost forgotten feeling of something getting quite obvious after being explained. I will try to prepare a patch for manpage as I know there are others complaining that while it's very thorough and detailed, it often fails to help in real life (e.g. in my case, I could not come up with proper patch for nid9). Thanks again, ./danfe
