There's a few lock order issues which need resolving (surprise surprise!) but by and large it seems to at least work in my own tests. I'd appreciate some testing. What's left before I throw this into -HEAD: * more testing! Lots, lots more testing! On all the atheros NICs that I have! * BAR TX; * reserving TX ath_buf's for TX'ing management frames (BAR, ADDBA, etc.); * Fixing LORs; * Fixing the TX buffer recycling order so TDMA works again; * Figure out what the heck to do about locking in general, as right now I'm doing some very evil things at the moment to try and get this to work. I tried it under FreeBSD, but it couldn't recognise it. So I made my homework, and here is the output. It is a "Samsung WIS09ABGN Wireless LAN Adapter". It has Ralink chipset in it, so the if_run and runfw drivers should work with it. After it, created the wlan0 interface, started wpa_supplicant and dhclient, and I have a working wifi connection. usbconfig -d 2.2 - with the "modified" driver ugen2.2: <802.11 n WLAN Ralink> at usbus2, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=ON It is on FreeBSD 8.2-p4 i386. bye, Gábor Zahemszky < Gabor at Zahemszky dot HU > From owner-freebsd-wireless@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Oct 19 06:52:01 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D2C32106566C for ; Wed, 19 Oct 2011 06:52:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jdevelop@gmail.com) Received: from mail-ey0-f182.google.com (mail-ey0-f182.google.com [209.85.215.182]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6A93B8FC17 for ; Wed, 19 Oct 2011 06:52:01 +0000 (UTC) Received: by eyd10 with SMTP id 10so1748242eyd.13 for ; Tue, 18 Oct 2011 23:52:00 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=date:from:to:subject:message-id:mime-version:content-type :content-disposition:user-agent; bh=5opFOP6R0HmtCcT/zE+iXTMPF+wj8djBZ8g+HoTEcjo=; b=fMDiE22cyX2CwceOql2VIpc6rMcW8rluoZLK0povVWmRBWW9agNX1YlveTTET09TOy Lnl38Y4QPwA27/ZLUKLj7EHTq7yw1FMMvK0g0Xf8Ws517Pr9rYV3whYv17b7MsO3CHU1 FGDB/NLsj6GEwjpMb31j0m/MW6TEQ1QpzKyrk= Received: by 10.223.77.77 with SMTP id f13mr1540951fak.19.1319005695470; Tue, 18 Oct 2011 23:28:15 -0700 (PDT) Received: from devbox (untold-steeple.volia.net. I tried with SONY VAIO laptop - and it easily reports good signal level while ASUS losts it's connection. Additionally, airodump-ng shows only 2 access points around if started at ASUS laptop, but on another host it shows much more stations. So I assume something is wrong with the card on ASUS laptop, how can I debug problems? I use the athstats program, but it uses an ABI which depends upon the version of the ath driver in your tree. So if you compile it, you'd best compile it from -HEAD and check it out in the same place that it is in the tree. Eg, if you had /home/adrian/work/freebsd/head/sys/dev/ath/ checked out, then you need to also check out /home/adrian/work/freebsd/head/tools/tools/ath/, then run make in there. I _hope_ it won't include the /usr/src/sys/dev/ath/ include files by default. :-) (Honest, 9.0-BETA3 should be great. :-) Adrian From owner-freebsd-wireless@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 21 06:40:24 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 887E21065678; Fri, 21 Oct 2011 06:40:24 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from adrian.chadd@gmail.com) Received: from mail-yx0-f182.google.com (mail-yx0-f182.google.com [209.85.213.182]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3AAF48FC1F; Fri, 21 Oct 2011 06:40:24 +0000 (UTC) Received: by yxn16 with SMTP id 16so4564230yxn.13 for ; Thu, 20 Oct 2011 23:40:23 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=mime-version:sender:date:x-google-sender-auth:message-id:subject :from:to:cc:content-type; bh=uQn1m7GRo/ClGyzG4IxwRhunpawWl10cALZh9c7FhWA=; b=wYrRPEonPe5efaXi+Idgw5a8ImdyhD5XtyqHgKPFQEH9DAGYkWtgve6YbQ+s+aDaI/ 84m3S13U1VNcl+xLa2eQUp9oOHS9D/Sy+SJp22T5VKnMHZRgE3xeSQj/z3ogk8aFsvEG rV2qT6QTlfH/ACN/Ae2OHvw+PKhejdP+Ys0KE= MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.236.133.241 with SMTP id q77mr16849029yhi.117.1319179223782; Thu, 20 Oct 2011 23:40:23 -0700 (PDT) Sender: adrian.chadd@gmail.com Received: by 10.236.109.39 with HTTP; Thu, 20 Oct 2011 23:40:23 -0700 (PDT) Date: Fri, 21 Oct 2011 14:40:23 +0800 X-Google-Sender-Auth: KZ3j8aYTLigSMDqAuC9xbeTrp60 Message-ID: From: Adrian Chadd To: Bernhard Schmidt Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Cc: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org Subject: Another scan + comlock LOR X-BeenThere: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussions of 802.11 stack, tools device driver development." This is from my if_ath_tx branch, but the locking is still problematic inside net80211. I've posted before about this to freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org; it's a very obvious LOR when you've traced the code. Thanks! If this is an active scan and the channel * is not marked passive then send probe request frame(s). * Arrange for the channel change after maxdwell ticks. */ static void scan_curchan(struct ieee80211_scan_state *ss, unsigned long maxdwell) { struct ieee80211vap *vap = ss->ss_vap; IEEE80211_LOCK(vap->iv_ic); if (ss->ss_flags & IEEE80211_SCAN_ACTIVE) ieee80211_probe_curchan(vap, 0); callout_reset(&SCAN_PRIVATE(ss)->ss_scan_timer, maxdwell, scan_signal, ss); IEEE80211_UNLOCK(vap->iv_ic); } ieee80211_probe_curchan() is called from a few other contexts (when rx'ing mgmt frames) which isn't locked. I don't like how some of these flags are checked and modified without the comlock being held, but I also can't help but think that any form of packet TX from net80211 to the driver which holds the comlock is going to result in a LOR. Eg, is it valid to walk ss->ss_ssid[i] (the list of ssids in the current scan state) without holding a lock? How is consistency guaranteed there? If you test it, and it works for you (esp. > LEDs, HT, injection, hostap etc.) let me know. > > Thanks! > Matt Hi, I tried to use the code with FreeBSD 10.0-CURRENT r226440. My system is an Asus eeePC 1000H with a Ralink RT2860, this is the device info: ral0@pci0:1:0:0: class=0x028000 card=0x27901814 chip=0x07811814 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Ralink corp.' device = 'RT2860' class = network I had to manually edit sys/dev/ral/if_ral_pci.c, because the card is identified as a RT2790. I also had to remove device ral from my kernel config file because it couldn't be linked with the kernel. After rebooting the machine, I kldloaded the module by hand. I got an "The invalid EEPROM LNA gain" and the "could not find extension channel" errors. I saw a previous post telling us not to worry too much about them, but I have to say they still appear. This is the exact trace that I got: ral0: mem 0xfbef0000-0xfbefffff irq 19 at device 0.0 on pci1 ral0: invalid EEPROM LNA gain #2: 0x00 ral0: invalid EEPROM LNA gain #3: 0x00 ral0: invalid EEPROM powersave level ral0: MAC/BBP RT2860 (rev 0x28720200), RF RT3022 2.4G 2T2R ral0: skip channel 10, could not find extension channel ral0: skip channel 11, could not find extension channel ral0: skip channel 12, could not find extension channel ral0: skip channel 13, could not find extension channel ral0: skip channel 14, could not find extension channel I cannot associate with any AP. I changed those AP to ensure they were not using any of the channels in the range of 10..14 (those channels are the ones ral0 complains with an skip channel message). I can't even do an scan, ifconfig wlan0 list scan up returns an empty list. How can I proceed further? Can I provide you any additional information?
