However, when I try to build a port, ccahce uses clang (I can tell by the output) and not gcc46. The only way to ensure that gcc46 is used as compiler is to disable in /etc/make.conf this: #CC:=${CC:C,^gcc46,/usr/local/libexec/ccache/world/gcc46,1} #CXX:=${CXX:C,^g\+\+\46,/usr/local/libexec/ccache/world/g++46,1} And enable this: CC=gcc46 \ CXX=g++46 I could not solve this on my own, so I filed a bug report on the ccache bugzilla. The maintainer has advised that he does not know FreeBSD that well and has deferred the issue back to FreeBSD. PR and full problem description from link below. Maintainer states: "I'm fairly certain that the problem you are seeing has nothing to do with ccache per se but rather with how FreeBSD uses ccache". https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9607 >How-To-Repeat: With a pure clang built world, if you try to use gcc46 (lang/gcc) with ccache enabled to build ports, ccache does not use gcc46 but instead calls clang. My theory is that; under clang built worlds ccache does not process the compiler call correctly. I had a "pure clang" world under branch 9-stable. After not being able to solve this problem I switched to branch 10-current and problem persits. >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Jan 30 20:14:54 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@smarthost.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.FreeBSD.org [8.8.178.115]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1E064489; Wed, 30 Jan 2013 20:14:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from peter@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206c::16:87]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E195A2B2; Wed, 30 Jan 2013 20:14:53 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.6/8.14.6) with ESMTP id r0UKErGS087164; Wed, 30 Jan 2013 20:14:53 GMT (envelope-from peter@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from peter@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.6/8.14.6/Submit) id r0UKErZA087160; Wed, 30 Jan 2013 20:14:53 GMT (envelope-from peter) Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2013 20:14:53 GMT Message-Id: <201301302014.r0UKErZA087160@freefall.freebsd.org> To: peter@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org From: peter@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: amd64/175710: ccache selects wrong compiler (calls clang, not gcc46) X-Mailman-Approved-At: Wed, 30 Jan 2013 20:18:59 +0000 X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2013 20:14:54 -0000 Synopsis: ccache selects wrong compiler (calls clang, not gcc46) Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-amd64->freebsd-bugs Responsible-Changed-By: peter Responsible-Changed-When: Wed Jan 30 20:14:24 UTC 2013 Responsible-Changed-Why: Not an amd64 issue http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=175710 From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jan 31 08:40:00 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@smarthost.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D0C38219 for ; Thu, 31 Jan 2013 08:40:00 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206c::16:87]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 95F3C2D1 for ; Thu, 31 Jan 2013 08:40:00 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.6/8.14.6) with ESMTP id r0V8e0as077701 for ; Thu, 31 Jan 2013 08:40:00 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.6/8.14.6/Submit) id r0V8e01B077700; Thu, 31 Jan 2013 08:40:00 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Thu, 31 Jan 2013 08:40:00 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <201301310840.r0V8e01B077700@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Giacomo Strangolino Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8C067105 for ; Thu, 31 Jan 2013 08:32:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from red.freebsd.org (red.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::22]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7D5DC28D for ; Thu, 31 Jan 2013 08:32:08 +0000 (UTC) Received: from red.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by red.freebsd.org (8.14.5/8.14.5) with ESMTP id r0V8W88D034855 for ; Thu, 31 Jan 2013 08:32:08 GMT (envelope-from nobody@red.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by red.freebsd.org (8.14.5/8.14.5/Submit) id r0V8W8LL034854; Thu, 31 Jan 2013 08:32:08 GMT (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <201301310832.r0V8W8LL034854@red.freebsd.org> Date: Thu, 31 Jan 2013 08:32:08 GMT From: Giacomo Strangolino To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-3.1 Subject: amd64/175725: Audio through USB has not as good hi quality as it has in linux X-Mailman-Approved-At: Thu, 31 Jan 2013 12:35:05 +0000 X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 31 Jan 2013 08:40:00 -0000 >Number: 175725 >Category: amd64 >Synopsis: Audio through USB has not as good hi quality as it has in linux >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-amd64 >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: change-request >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Thu Jan 31 08:40:00 UTC 2013 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Giacomo Strangolino >Release: 9.1 >Organization: Elettra - Synchrotron Radiation Facility, Trieste, italy >Environment: FreeBSD woody 9.1-RELEASE FreeBSD 9.1-RELEASE ... amd64 >Description: Hi. I've got an USB D/A converter attached to a SCYTHE SDA-1100 power amplifier connected to a couple of bookshelf Cambridge Audio loudspeakers. I don't know whether I am writing in the right place, anyway, I noticed a difference in the quality of the audio reproduced with the same components on the same computer after switching to linux, which provides better quality both in frequency response and, generally, in the dynamics and the scene reproduced. On freebsd I used to play with amarok + gstreamer, amarok + vlc backends, VLC player and mplayer. Another noticeable difference consists in the output level of the signal: in linux it is much higher, thus allowing to listen to the same volume attenuating much more the amplifier volume control. Could this be a problem of the uaudio driver? Could it be more generally a problem of the pcm module? Any hint is appreciated. Love FreeBSD. This is a misconfigured hypervisor, or a bug in the hypervisor. FreeBSD amd64 assumes that both X87 FPU and SSE2 are present for any CPU capable of long mode. It is enforced by the Unix amd64 ABI. Intel documentation states that CPUID leaf 0xd must report the presence of FPU extensions, and since for the long mode capable CPU, SSE2 and X87 must be present, we re-check the report. Aparently, the returned CPUID data is wrong. > Also I tried several other cpu models instead of the core2duo and it does= n't make a difference, if xsave is exposed to the guest, FreeBSD 9.1 amd64 = fails to boot with the error above. > >How-To-Repeat: > kvm -cpu core2duo,+xsave -enable-kvm -drive file=3Dfreebsd-9.1-qcow2.img = -boot d -net nic -net user -nographic -vnc :0 -cdrom ./isos/FreeBSD-9.1-RE= LEASE-amd64-disc1.iso=20 > >Fix: Talk to KVM developers. i386 kernel does not support this feature, 9.0 did not have it yet. --QOtWmwZ6xSENhj9o Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.19 (FreeBSD) iQIcBAEBAgAGBQJRDSqRAAoJEJDCuSvBvK1BKkkP/2LwthEm1J//zuFlQq+o7BNe XFv9pkm7bAiKqFT46n4cs0sfoO9lC26+bPU7/jSSDDLGNCpfp9UYQJFMuTowhD8n Ee5TiyMDAeYq5kpiV7jpHf+Wphwaq1pEVNGeV4AMyQAV9l20YlHzzMESHn96pxOG 1NLj6yzPqIzD1gDui6kpNLjmY2SUqCkI0HL/Ji/QFpYu6ciY1FFpHe7e/VTZPnJj 1OJ2j3diVLbDT+ElWg0Gog5In3vcnsD36+mxJm0li5nK7CdoTFyhFi7e/2md1nj+ /Is/vhXLnLM7o+EWkNSxM33sOxTjiwCK69sGShLkSdjVJR36brScJchaiZ7XQBfA 69k7cGrBuwMaWcWNpYb/SyV7etz8OwYre//m4QCJXxEcpGV772TORGqC6xpiZXct LFuAuRLG6Vn/e0QtLRfKTmu3tQkaNWTfBYBcmGCv4tMBa/G39cnSwsxpUhMEfFjU Gh2UXTj9+MheOJBuwmeYjsKQofCy7Y6Q0dDPyokyzWyEVIF59NF7zQjgXt/1qDmz yaPzrHU2y0PizzQGdcd0wmJi+ZyR79NI5mN1nU7tFQQAZ0euv6ZEZTKKMiZQhxTo 8UQ+UWF6H5TdO484HY/siJm8EplNKRQ534ftpORwnHKOd223ONq4I+M3XENvd6Fi ZNi2NG8PpQEBsmGJt3g4 =x2yi -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --QOtWmwZ6xSENhj9o-- From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Feb 2 15:10:02 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@smarthost.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.FreeBSD.org [8.8.178.115]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6A8C0FDF for ; Sat, 2 Feb 2013 15:10:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206c::16:87]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 43819768 for ; Sat, 2 Feb 2013 15:10:02 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.6/8.14.6) with ESMTP id r12FA1U9094303 for ; Sat, 2 Feb 2013 15:10:01 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.6/8.14.6/Submit) id r12FA1L6094302; Sat, 2 Feb 2013 15:10:01 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Sat, 2 Feb 2013 15:10:01 GMT Message-Id: <201302021510.r12FA1L6094302@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org Cc: From: Konstantin Belousov Subject: Re: amd64/175780: Crash on KVM boot due to xsave instruction issue X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list Reply-To: Konstantin Belousov List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 02 Feb 2013 15:10:02 -0000 The following reply was made to PR amd64/175780; it has been noted by GNATS.
