It's exactly what I needed for the first time around. I should have mentioned that the one to edit is renice.8, but maybe it was clear. If Subversion was used to check out the source, just edit that file. When done, produce a patch with cd /usr/src svn diff usr.bin/renice/renice.8 > ~/renice.8.diff Also, mdoc(7) is the reference for the mdoc macros. Sadly, we don't have anything about it in the FDP Primer. > As to the language style, I was also worrying about things like "...can only monotonically increase...", but perhaps my memories of calculus are sub-par and it'd be as clear as day to > the rest of the world. No, I'm talking about the XML namespace. The xmlns=... part should be removed completely from email and this should also be reflected in the XHTML renderer XSLT, that is, email instead of xhtml:email. In turn, the template can be totally removed from the DocBook XSLT since DocBook handles properly the email element in the default (empty) namespace. Even if you committed it separately in the branch, it would go to head intermixed with real changes, which makes it hard to read the backlog. This is a disadvantage in general and it is quite a big hassle for translators. I think you did it fine since you didn't have to foresee these consequences but maybe we should document it as a best practice to avoid whitespace changes in branches. I think the justification for using in "&os; 9.2" is that the version number is so narrow on its own that it would simply look bad if wrapped to the beginning of a line. That's a guess, I don't recall any explicit justification. As Gabor pointed out, it may not work or may even be contrary to what is desirable in translations. > I went back through the history of this file, and at least one instance was > added in r33364 by pgj (cc'd), with review by gabor@, even! For "FreeBSD 9.2", numbers and units like "8 GB", and guibutton uses, I think using nbsp is probably okay. For "Ports Collection" or other instances of multiple full words, I can't think of a compelling reason to use it. Would that look ugly? There are some without the spaces and even without the brackets in the original 8.x install chapter of the Handbook. The new form with the nbsp originated in the bsdinstall chapter. To me, the new form is easier to read. Unless there are complaints, I'll add it to the FDP Primer. Kind of thought it was already in there, actually. This was extremely confusing when attempting to boot single-user, as all messages prior to the single-user prompt are produced on the vid terminal (and on the external console), however at the moment that single-user mode is entered, the mirroring ceases. While it is now clear what happened, the effect is that single-user mode appears to be unavailable. I have no /boot.config file that would indicate which console is meant to be used for messages. >How-To-Repeat: Add these lines to /boot/loader.conf, attempt to boot single user. >Fix: I would suggest adding some text to the handbook page "Setting up the Serial Console" http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/serialconsole-setup.html#serialconsole-loader Currently, these page makes no comment regarding single-user mode whatsoever. Informing the user that configuring the console may well have repercussions on entry to single-user mode will lessen confusion in the future. I would therefore suggest adding the following text into section 26.6.6 "Setting up the Console from the Boot Loader", subsection 26.6.6.1 "Setting Up the Serial Console": Note that entry to single-user mode will only honour input on one console, even if multiple consoles are indicated using the console boot option. Care must be taken that the first named console is available to the system manager entering single-user mode. I will note that the first sentence in this section "The boot loader and the kernel to use the serial console can be specified by writing one line in /boot/loader.conf" seems very poorly written -- I do not understand what this line is attempting to say. Additionally, there is already a section "26.6.7 Caveats"; a note here indicating possible effects on single-user boot would probably not go amiss. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Jul 12 17:19:30 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: FreeBSD-doc@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EF0C8D62 for ; Fri, 12 Jul 2013 17:19:30 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from michelbehr@gmail.com) Received: from mail-wi0-x22c.google.com (mail-wi0-x22c.google.com [IPv6:2a00:1450:400c:c05::22c]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8E2D91173 for ; Fri, 12 Jul 2013 17:19:30 +0000 (UTC) Received: by mail-wi0-f172.google.com with SMTP id c10so940760wiw.5 for ; Fri, 12 Jul 2013 10:19:29 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:date:message-id:subject:from:to:content-type; bh=lNdjm7FPsH5/Q7cNcMeqAepi9Tgp4cgG8cHkAsRe8TU=; b=U5nPzaqGehMy7Ww1OCmnQTtefTN+vng6ty6Ee+kqfG2/BcU5nO/jaANaXppWV7YJ94 Ld44hoOaBztO/hnKNoo2XOsqhSZjFVh83mESfayqrZ9rM+IbdxfVzyuBa0CXdGTmDYYe 8WRIZd01l2VVAISozzZa5ndQ1PoiXGIVWXw8nEW/GXKTakeOEMNERz+wC0/pPUqHdHMu Akm4DuqLqjLiX+UrGkVYObaI7j6TOUjNfTaxJoeQP/jUG/FQEXkICrrzeEyxHNA31mrT gGN16iH5QtBp3ZADw3GTzqV+1xAgR+z/nIiunosYph2raBs/NNvaq7ObqOuVNsOCJkdO CLqg== MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Received: by 10.180.83.68 with SMTP id o4mr2315568wiy.5.1373649569781; Fri, 12 Jul 2013 10:19:29 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.216.70.19 with HTTP; Fri, 12 Jul 2013 10:19:29 -0700 (PDT) Date: Fri, 12 Jul 2013 14:19:29 -0300 Message-ID: Subject: I want to subscribe to the freebsd mail list From: Michel Behr To: FreeBSD-doc@FreeBSD.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.14 X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 12 Jul 2013 17:19:31 -0000 hi how do i subscribe to the freebsd mail list? thx Michel. We are now in a process of updating the links in websites all around the world and I will appreciate your cooperation. I am sure your users will find it useful. Thanks, Lurie
