Starting it from the command line produces no output (no surprise). The same problem appears when I run the pre-built LibreOffice package from Dominic. The program produces a core dump with the following message: Core was generated by `soffice.bin'. Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault. And the backtrace reads: #0 0x2edea280 in XFree@plt () from /usr/local/lib/libreoffice/program/libvclplug_genlo.so Invalid binary operation on numbers. I'd first try to start libreoffice with env LANG=C. Usually you acquire a locale from the login class, the default login.conf(5). Users can override the lang and charset settings in ~/.login_conf. I'd really try to find out what breaks your LANG setting, maybe a stray entry in ~/.profile or ~/.cshrc. Some WMs also override it. Mine looks like this: # locale LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 LC_CTYPE="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_COLLATE="en_GB.UTF-8" ... I think apart from root every user is better of with a .UTF-8 locale like en_US.UTF-8. > I didn't set anything as was setup as default and I didn't have problems. > LibreOffice 3.6 works very good. When Clang 3.0 was upgraded to Clang 3.1_1 in the base system I encountered the problem of libreoffice 3.6.5_2 building but not starting. Upgrading to libreoffice 4.0.1 resulted in the same problem. Setting WITH_SYSTEM_CLANG=NO in make.conf and rebuilding with port build Clang 3.2 resolved the problem. This bug is particularly insidious as the user configured settings did not change when things broke, and must be changed to resolve the regression in base system Clang 3.1_1. I have come across many posts of people confused by this problem; a note somewhere is in order. I have in make.conf: CC=clang CXX=clang++ CPP=clang-cpp and I have clang 3.2 installed too. When I built LibreOffice 4.0.1.2 it was used Clang 3.2. and I have problem which I posted. Before with version 3.6.5_2 I didn't have any problem with building and running. Anywhere I will give a try. I will do what you wrote. Could I live my settings, please? Thanks in advance. I got a old laptop that runs 9-stable i386 flavor, I recently build libreoffice 4.0.1 on my poudriere setup and installed it via pkg. Now I get the splash screen for 1 second before it disapears. There isn't any soffice program in the ps ax output. Is there a way to get more info out of libreoffice about whats going on because currently it doesn't give anything, neither in console or in dmesg. For the record 3.6.5 works fine. -Koop From owner-freebsd-office@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Mar 16 23:17:27 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-office@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.FreeBSD.org [8.8.178.115]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B084A3E9 for ; Sat, 16 Mar 2013 23:17:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from kevinz5000@gmail.com) Received: from mail-ve0-f178.google.com (mail-ve0-f178.google.com [209.85.128.178]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 747A8858 for ; Sat, 16 Mar 2013 23:17:27 +0000 (UTC) Received: by mail-ve0-f178.google.com with SMTP id db10so3549394veb.9 for ; Sat, 16 Mar 2013 16:17:21 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=x-received:message-id:date:from:user-agent:mime-version:to:cc :subject:references:in-reply-to:x-enigmail-version:content-type :content-transfer-encoding; bh=rzFPIt74uw22P5zAOXHFh4nLAP7RUaIC+e8sqaJdGzE=; b=0sU7jGG+TR5n4oWnV9e3ol1ESAtR009wolsoBN3KBVD4jAQ4PHOb91cpVrd8SCiFVK tclaCKFbSy4fWiq01Th7cX+QNv0pxW6Uhy49CgpLxc7u/P1AV0OguS82F7V8d6feoySr omcfu2k2sRCSyR1g2u+7H0TJzNKt7st15l32jU4NxqTruCmhpaCaSu8DRmfhZlcMZQyb Wgm8p4p/eWEP5ZiDVt90OBl1wamsTAXE209Wr1b8f3UcGICaQjghtCBTBWGjqay4RTUJ ex1nFr0QrcVYzDIDx3iiYAg2Btw/LSfKvK+8dVQQ+c6Pon9bHAQKh2OArDHG42EPa0dL KpIQ== X-Received: by 10.58.233.210 with SMTP id ty18mr13419435vec.46.1363475841741; Sat, 16 Mar 2013 16:17:21 -0700 (PDT) Received: from sigma.local (adsl-99-108-29-47.dsl.stl2mo.sbcglobal.net. The same exact issue happens with me as well. If you look around in your home directory after LibreOffice dies, you will probably find a core dump ('soffice.bin.core'). If you run GDB on it chances are it will claim that there was a segmentation fault. So far, turning off MERGELIBS has not helped resolve my problem, so I'm still siting around with no LibreOffice. Sometime soon I'll build a version with debugging symbols.
